These are not managed by British Cycling but by a separate governing body called Cycling Time Trials. There is no individual affiliation option, you just sign up to your affiliated local club and pay an on-the-day race fee. Most races have fixed distances (10, 25, 50 and 100 miles) or fixed times (12 and 24 hours). <\/span><\/p>\n\n<h5 class=\"sans-serif article-subhead\"><strong><span class=\"has-inline-color has-ccp-secondary-light-color\">02<\/span> <strong>Get aero early <\/strong><\/strong><\/h5>\n\n<p class=\"article-full-body sans-serif\">The first thing to do is get your position dialled down. \u201cSpending time refining your aero position should be done as early in the season as possible,\u201d says coach Richard Rollinson of CPT Cycling (<a href=\"http:\/\/cptcycling.co.uk\">cptcycling.co.uk<\/a>). This will ensure you feel comfortable and confident on race day. \u201cDial in what gives you the best aerodynamics and power within your flexibility, body shape and comfort \u2013 and then stick to it for the year.\u201d <\/p>\n\n<h5 class=\"sans-serif article-subhead\"><strong><span class=\"has-inline-color has-ccp-secondary-light-color\">03<\/span> <strong>Ride your TT bike <\/strong><\/strong><\/h5>\n\n<p class=\"article-full-body sans-serif\">No matter how fit you are, if you don\u2019t practise on your TT bike, you won\u2019t excel in races. \u201cThe earlier you train with your TT bike, the better your power transfer in that unique TT position,\u201d says Rollinson. \u201cRide with your aero bars at least once a month over winter \u2013 more often if<span> you can. And you can always use an indoor trainer if you prefer not to ride your TT bike outside in the winter months.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-style-large\"><p><span class=\"has-inline-color has-ccp-secondary-light-color\">\u201cAIM TO CARRY YOUR SPEED THROUGH JUNCTIONS, DOWNHILLS AND TECHNICAL SECTIONS BY STAYING OFF THE BRAKES\u201d <\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n<h5 class=\"sans-serif article-subhead\"><strong><span class=\"has-inline-color has-ccp-secondary-light-color\">04<\/span> <strong>Pace yourself<\/strong><\/strong><\/h5>\n\n<p class=\"article-full-body sans-serif\">It\u2019s time to get used to pushing big gears. \u201cPacing a time trial is about achieving consistency with a maximum effort,\u201d says Rollinson. \u201cA big gear with high-torque and low-cadence effort is needed to get you up to speed, then adjust your pace and gearing according to headwinds or gradients.\u201d <\/p>\n\n<h5 class=\"sans-serif article-subhead\"><strong><span class=\"has-inline-color has-ccp-secondary-light-color\">05 <\/span><strong>Maximise your speed<\/strong><\/strong><\/h5>\n\n<p class=\"article-full-body sans-serif\">In time trials, micro-gains quickly add up so work on your bikehandling technique. \u201cAim to carry your speed through junctions, downhills and technical sections by staying off the brakes, and minimise pedalling on fast corners when you can,\u201d says Rollinson. \u201cThe watts saved through these sections can be used on less technical but physically demanding sections.\u201d <\/p>\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n<hr class=\"no-tts wp-block-separator is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n<h5 class=\"has-text-align-center sans-serif article-subhead\"><strong>TRY THESE RACES <\/strong><\/h5>\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center article-full-body sans-serif\"><em><strong><span class=\"has-inline-color has-ccp-secondary-light-color\">Sign up for an event or series to get a feel for TT <\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"no-tts wp-block-image alignwide article-in-image photo\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1124\" height=\"803\" src=\"https:\/\/dj9jqhxgw9833.cloudfront.net\/uploads\/sites\/43\/2022\/09\/41cc05d2-1d09-444a-8113-9788231fe826.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"no-tts wp-image-41541\" srcset=\"https:\/\/c01.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/43\/2022\/09\/41cc05d2-1d09-444a-8113-9788231fe826.jpg 1124w, https:\/\/c01.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/43\/2022\/09\/41cc05d2-1d09-444a-8113-9788231fe826-300x214.jpg 300w, https:\/\/c01.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/43\/2022\/09\/41cc05d2-1d09-444a-8113-9788231fe826-1024x732.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/c01.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/43\/2022\/09\/41cc05d2-1d09-444a-8113-9788231fe826-768x549.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1124px) 100vw, 1124px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<h5 class=\"sans-serif article-subhead\"><strong><span class=\"has-inline-color has-ccp-secondary-light-color\">Tour of Cambridgeshire Time Trial <\/span><\/strong><\/h5>\n\n<p class=\"article-full-body sans-serif\">\u25cf <span style=\"\">Feel like a pro in this prestigious 26km time trial which features a starting ramp, closed roads and professional commentary.
