This is the custom Canyon Aeroad<\/a> CFR that Canyon dhb SunGod rider Max Stedman rode during Friday\u2019s Everesting world record attempt.<\/p>\n

Stedman\u2019s chosen climb for the record attempt was Crowcombe in the Quantock Hills<\/a>, which takes in 154m of ascent at an average gradient of 17.2 per cent. He rode the climb 40 times to accumulate 6,160m of elevation before abandoning the attempt.<\/p>\n

Hill climb racing aficionados<\/a> may raise an eyebrow at Stedman\u2019s bike choice \u2013 most hill climb bikes<\/a> usually follow the \u2018lightest-of-everything-thank-you-very-much\u2019 approach to spec choice.<\/p>\n

However, when you consider Stedman\u2019s average pace on his \u2018basecamp\u2019 attempt<\/a> \u2013 which constitutes half an Everesting attempt at 4,424m \u2013 back in August was 17km\/h, an aero bike may present some significant advantages over a traditional lightweight climbing rig.<\/p>\n

In any case, Stedman\u2019s bike is said to weigh 6.7kg, which isn\u2019t to be sniffed at when you consider the Canyon Aeroad is a proper aero road bike<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Everesting requires riders to pick a single climb and complete repeats of it in a single session until they ascend 8,848m \u2013 the equivalent height of Mount Everest.\u00a0<\/p>\n
