After many years of Speedplay fans begging for it, and nearly a year after it was initially teased, Wahoo has officially launched the Speedplay Powerlink Zero power meter<\/a> pedal system.<\/p>\n\n<p>The Powrlink Zero system is based around a slightly modified version of the <a href=\""https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/reviews\/components\/pedals\/wahoo-speedplay-zero-pedals-review\/"\">Wahoo Speedplay Zero pedal<\/a>, which was <a href=\""https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/news\/2021-wahoo-speedplay-pedals\/"\">launched in 2021<\/a>, and brings independent, left- and right-leg power measurement to the platform.<\/p>\n<p>Available in dual-sided or single-sided configurations, the Powrlink Zero boasts a +\/- 1 per cent claimed accuracy range, an internal rechargeable battery (with a claimed run-time of 75 hours), automatic practically any bike. For the Wahoo Speedplay Powrlink Zero pedals, that means just an 8mm Allen key.<\/p>\n<p>Similar to the <a href=\""https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/reviews\/training\/power-meters\/favero-assioma-duo-power-meter-pedals-review\/"\">Favero Assioma Duo power meter pedal<\/a> system, the power meter electronics reside within the pedal spindle and a bulbous pod.<\/p>\n<p>While this doesn\u2019t look as clean as having everything housed entirely within the spindle (something Garmin has managed since it launched the <a href=\""https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/news\/garmin-adds-features-to-edge-1030-ups-accuracy-and-drops-pods-for-vector-3\/"\">Vector 3 power meter pedal<\/a> system back in 2017), it doesn\u2019t confer any notable performance drawbacks for road cyclists.<\/p>\n<p>The pedal body itself retains key Speedplay features many know and love, such as a large amount of freely adjustable float, dual-sided entry and exit, and low weight.<\/p>\n<p>The power-meter internals and pods naturally add a little weight versus a set of standard Speedplay pedals, but at just 54g for a dual-sided legacy Speedplay pedals such as the <a href=\""https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/reviews\/components\/pedals\/speedplay-zero-pave-pedals-review\/"\">Speedplay Zero Pave<\/a> to cobble together (pun intended) a custom set of power meter pedals, either.<\/p>\n<p>The Powrlink Zero is also limited to just one road-specific pedal body and cleat option \u2013 there\u2019s no off-road or shoes<\/a>, making an off-road version (perhaps with something such as the <a href=\""https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/reviews\/components\/pedals\/speedplay-syzr-mountain-bike-pedals-review\/"\">Speedplay Syzr<\/a> pedal body) tricky to implement.<\/p>\n<p>When asked about the possibility of an off-road version, Speedplay said it \u201ccan\u2019t comment on plans for future products\u201d, but stopped short of ruling anything out.<\/p>\n<h2>Old kids on the block<\/h2>\n<p>One big question for any new entrant to the power-meter market is whether it can produce accurate and reliable power data.<\/p>\n<p>With its extensive experience making some of the <a href=\""https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/buyers-guides\/best-smart-trainer\/"\">best smart trainers<\/a>, such as the <a href=\""https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/reviews\/training\/indoor-trainers\/wahoo-kickr-v5-smart-trainer-review\/"\">Wahoo Kickr<\/a> and <a href=\""https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/reviews\/training\/indoor-trainers\/resistance-trainer\/wahoo-kickr-core-review\/"\">Kickr Core<\/a>, Wahoo has more experience than most in this regard, or pedal smoothness.<\/p>\n<p>Though the likes of Garmin and Favero would likely disagree, Wahoo claims these are \u201cnot actionable metrics\u201d as things stand.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s not clear
