Specialized and the Swedish outdoor apparel brand Fj\u00e4llr\u00e4ven have announced a new collaborative range of clothing and bags.<\/p>\n

Named The Great Nearby, the line will include a broad range of clothing and accessories, from T-shirts to pannier bags (and will eventually even feature a dress and a suit), released in a series of \u2018product drops\u2019.<\/p>\n

The collaboration taps into Fj\u00e4llr\u00e4ven\u2019s expertise in sustainable and functional outdoor gear, combined with Specialized\u2019s cycling nous, and is targeted at commuters, utility cyclists and the growing worlds of gravel riding<\/a> and bikepacking<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The logo combines Specialized\u2019s trademark \u2018S\u2019 with Fj\u00e4llr\u00e4ven\u2019s fox (fj\u00e4llr\u00e4ven means \u2018arctic fox\u2019 in Norwegian, with the brand\u2019s logo most commonly seen on the popular \u2018Kanken\u2019 backpack).<\/p>\n

\u201cSpecialized is known for being on top of podiums and being a performance-minded company, and Fj\u00e4llr\u00e4ven is known for its sustainability, [by] designing classics and things that last long with hikers,\u201d says Erik Nohlin, industry design leader at Specialized.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe hiking and biking elements mean that you can be active to a pretty high level but then you can also end up at a table having dinner at the end of the day,\u201d he adds. \u201cThat \u2018saddle-to-table\u2019 approach is something that we\u2019ve had as an ethos when we\u2019ve designed the whole collection.\u201d<\/p>\n

The collaboration apparently started two years ago with the goal to create a more inclusive and accessible range of apparel that would appeal to established cyclists and those who are put off by the sport\u2019s racing-focused image.<\/p>\n

\u201cMany people probably consider biking as a quite extreme activity,\u201d explains Fj\u00e4llr\u00e4ven\u2019s Martin Axelhed.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou see very athletic people, you see equipment and a lot of Lycra. But this collaboration will be more inclusive. We are lowering the threshold, so I think we can definitely inspire more people to join this movement.\u201d<\/p>\n

The name \u2013 The Great Nearby \u2013 is inspired by the idea that you don\u2019t have to travel far or plan for months to have an adventure.<\/p>\n

Instead, it can be moments from your front door \u2013 something many will have realised over the last two years during various lockdowns and having to explore closer to home.<\/p>\n

Product drops<\/h2>\n

The collection will be released through a series of product drops, starting on 15 March.<\/span><\/figcaption> Fj\u00e4llr\u00e4ven X Specialized<\/i><\/span><\/div>\n

The first product drop is to be released on Tuesday 15 March.<\/p>\n

The range includes a pull-over anorak intended to be stylish on the front and functional at the back thanks to a dropped hem and fit designed to be comfortable in the saddle.<\/p>\n

The \u2018Cool Cave\u2019 is likely to appeal to commuters<\/a> and utility cyclists. As a hard shell, injection-moulded pannier made from recycled PET plastic, it has 19 litres of volume in the main compartment, as well as an additional 8 litres of storage in its fabric top lid.<\/p>\n

It comes with a neat tote bag that\u2019s tapered to fit inside the pannier, while there will also be a number of compatible accessories, including a signature Fj\u00e4llr\u00e4ven backpack.<\/p>\n

The second release will then follow on Wednesday 18 May, and focuses more on overnight stays and longer-haul adventures with products such as saddlepacks and a handlebar bottle bag.<\/p>\n

Both drops will be available on fjallraven.com, specialized.com and in selected Fj\u00e4llr\u00e4ven stores.<\/p><\/body><\/html>\n
