Peaty\u2019s Holeshot tubeless puncture repair<\/a> plug kit uses a new hook-shaped design that offers, the brand claims, easier use and better sealing. The matching Holeshot Co2 inflator<\/a> also differs from the norm, with an inline design that is said to provide more efficient inflation.<\/p>\n

Peaty\u2019s (named after the man behind the brand and legendary mountain biker, Steve Peat<\/a>) already offers a host of tubeless related product, including valves, rim tape, conversion kits and sealant<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The aim of a tubeless puncture plug kit is very simple \u2013 use something to plug a hole in your tyre.<\/p>\n

The most common way to do this is to force a small, sticky, rubberised strip (the tubeless plug), into the hole in the tyre.<\/p>\n

Peaty\u2019s has created a small tool for this exact purpose, but the brand\u2019s approach is a little different to most.<\/p>\n

Normally, the plug tool used to force the tubeless plug into the tyre is a twin-pronged fork. The plug sits between the prongs of the plug tool and the rider then forces this into the hole in the tyre.<\/p>\n

When the tool is removed from the tyre, the plug should stay there, stopping air from escaping.<\/p>\n

Peaty\u2019s says it experimented with different plug tool shapes but came to the conclusion that the twin-fork tool design isn\u2019t the optimal solution.<\/p>\n

Instead, it has opted to go for what it dubs the \u2018hook-and-a-half\u2019 design.<\/p>\n

While it looks like something straight out of a fishing tackle box, the idea behind the shape is said to have been heavily tested and, if it does as promised, could prevent a lot of trailside agony.<\/p>\n

The hook-and-a-half shape of the plug tool is claimed to make loading the tyre plugs easier. It\u2019s pointed and sharp too, which, Peaty\u2019s says, helps it fit into smaller holes without widening them.<\/p>\n

Peaty\u2019s says you can pre-load plugs securely into the tool if you\u2019re racing and need a really quick fix.<\/p>\n

The plug kit sits within a small aluminium canister. The lid \u2013 which covers the length of the tool \u2013 unscrews and can be reattached to the base of the tool, acting as a handle when in use.<\/p>\n

Inside the lid, you\u2019ll find 1.5mm and 3mm plugs, which Peaty\u2019s claims will work with every sealant out there, not just its own.<\/p>\n

The canister is claimed to be properly sealed and watertight to ensure the contents stay dry. At 65mm when closed, it\u2019s pretty compact and should be easy to stash in your pack or on your bike.<\/p>\n

The Peaty\u2019s Holeshot CO2 inflator uses an inline spring-loaded push valve design. This enables you to regulate flow \u2013 the harder you push, the more Co2 is released.<\/p>\n

According to Peaty\u2019s, an inline inflator \u2013 as opposed to one that forces the air through a 90-degree bend \u2013 gives the fastest and most efficient inflation.<\/p>\n

Peaty\u2019s says this is especially the case when used with the cartridge shooting downward into the valve (apparently, there\u2019s a marked difference in airflow if you flip the inflator so it\u2019s pointing upwards).<\/p>\n

This design is also said to minimise icing.<\/p>\n

The inline design means the valve can be pushed on rather than screwed. Peaty\u2019s says this means you are less likely to bend or break a valve. The Holeshot inflator will only work with Presta valves.<\/p>\n

The in-line design could help make it easier\/less awkward to store, too. At just 43mm long (without the cartridge attached), most riders should have space for it somewhere.<\/p>\n

Peaty\u2019s has also included a silicone sleeve that wraps fully around the cartridge, including its base, which should help to protect your hands when in use.<\/p>\n
