Peaty\u2019s has launched a new formula for its Holeshot Biofibre tubeless sealant, following two years of development. It claims the updated sealant will \u201cright any wrongs\u201d of the version it replaces.<\/p>\n

The thick, white tubeless sealant from Peaty\u2019s has received a number of mixed reviews over the years. While it certainly has some strong points, it\u2019s far from perfect, which may explain why it doesn\u2019t feature in our list of the best tubeless sealants in 2022<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The new sealant sits alongside the Holeshot puncture plug kit and C02 inflator<\/a> that was launched recently by the brand named after its co-founder and downhill legend Steve Peat<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The new Holeshot Biofibre sealant replaces the current offering from Peaty\u2019s, which hasn\u2019t always been a hit with riders. Due to some batch inconsistencies back in 2017, success with the rather thick sealant (compared to others on the market) was a little hit and miss.<\/p>\n

Although those early manufacturing issues improved, Peaty\u2019s says it was determined to further hone the product, aiming to create a sealant that\u2019s both effective and environmentally friendly<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The brand says it tried 23 different formulations and claims the new Biofibre sealant is its best yet.<\/p>\n

More fibre in the diet<\/h3>\n

The new formula includes fully biodegradable cellulose fibres within the water-based, ammonia-free latex, which Peaty\u2019s claims helps to provide a quicker, more reliable seal.<\/p>\n

The original Peaty\u2019s sealant didn\u2019t include any fibres within the sealant. According to the brand, the quickest and easiest way to achieve a fast seal is to include microplastic fibres in the sealant (these bond with the particles and latex to help plug the hole rapidly).<\/p>\n

Microfibres are cheap, but terrible for the planet. As a result, Peaty\u2019s opted to steer clear of them in the new sealant.<\/p>\n

After years of searching, the brand say it has found a biodegradable alternative that works effectively. The new sealant is claimed to be environmentally friendly, while Peaty\u2019s says it seals holes more quickly.<\/p>\n

There will, of course, be times when sealant won\u2019t be enough to plug the hole and you\u2019ll need to come to the rescue with a tyre plug<\/a>. Peaty\u2019s says it has tested the new formula with every tyre plug it could find to ensure the Biofibre sealant works with each one.<\/p>\n

The new-look sealant is claimed to work consistently well for at least six months before its performance starts to taper off.<\/p>\n

The previous version of Peaty\u2019s sealant was quite thick in comparison to many of its competitors. While this helped to coat the inside of the tyre, it lacked the mobility needed to slosh around and get to holes quickly enough to seal them before too much air was lost.<\/p>\n

Peaty\u2019s says the new formula is thinner and far more mobile, though it says it still has the ability to coat the inside sidewalls effectively. This is claimed to help prevent it dropping too much pressure after initial setup.<\/p>\n

This has been achieved by adding a higher concentration of sealing compounds, which Peaty\u2019s claims helps to give a better and more durable seal, when used in conjunction with platelets (small biodegradable bits of glitter floating in the sealant) and biofibres.<\/p>\n

Peaty\u2019s says its new sealant will work in temperatures between -20C and 50C, and with pressures from 15 to 120psi<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Like its predecessor, the new sealant contains platelets \u2013 formerly referred to as the \u2018blue glitter\u2019 that could be seen floating inside the bottle or sparkling on the inside of a used tyre.<\/p>\n

According to Peaty\u2019s, these bond together like platelets within your blood, and help to stem the flow of air from any puncture holes.<\/p>\n

The platelets in the new formula are black. Peaty\u2019s say the primary reason for changing to this colour is they appear less messy and don\u2019t stand out as much if you spill the sealant.<\/p>\n

These black platelets are said to be fully biodegradable. The brand claims the new sealant will consistently seal up to 6mm holes, and potentially up to 8mm.<\/p>\n

We\u2019ve yet to test the new sealant, but keep your eyes peeled for a review in the not-too-distant future.<\/p>\n

Also included is Peaty\u2019s silver-printed rim tape, black Mk2 valves (with a valve cap that doubles as a core remover, while the other can be used to tighten spokes) and the new Holeshot Biofibre sealant.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n
