Release confirms Globe as new line of urban electric bikes <\/p>

Specialized has finally unveiled the Globe Haul ST, claiming the electric cargo bike can transport 190kg of gear for 100km on a single charge.<\/p>\n

Globe is a new line of electric bikes<\/a> that will sit under the Specialized banner, instead of a sub-brand as the announcement of Globe Bikes<\/a> last September suggested.<\/p>\n

Specialized says the first Globe bike enables riders to travel comfortably around urban roads and \u201coff-the-beaten paths of their outdoor adventures\u201d.<\/p>\n

The Globe Haul ST is available in the US only, for $2,700. The Californian brand says it plans to eventually distribute internationally.<\/p>\n

The Globe Haul ST features a step-through, one-size-fits-all aluminium frame. Adjustable handlebars and two seatposts (one slots into the other) enable the bike to fit riders from 4ft 5in to 6ft 4in (135cm to 193cm), according to Specialized.<\/p>\n

The bike itself measures 72mm at the widest point of the handlebars, 1,050mm tall (depending on seatpost height) and 1,680mm long. The claimed weight is 35kg (78lb).<\/p>\n

Relatively small 20in double-walled alloy wheels are wrapped in Carless Whisper Reflect 20\u00d73.5in tyres.<\/p>\n

The Globe Haul ST\u2019s hub-based, tuneable 772Wh motor has five levels of assistance controlled via the handlebar remote. This also shows the battery level, estimated range and an odometer.<\/p>\n

The brand claims the Globe Haul ST\u2019s 700W battery has sufficient range to \u201ctransport up to 419lb for up to 60 miles on a single charge\u201d. The removable battery sits in the space between the diagonal top tube and down tube.<\/p>\n

The Globe Haul ST is bedecked with commuter bike essentials<\/a> that should make riding to work<\/a> or the shops that bit easier. Integrated front and rear lights<\/a>, full mudguards<\/a> and a dual-sided kickstand come as standard.<\/p>\n

Several accessories are available to purchase separately. These include front and rear pannier<\/a> adaptors, a rear passenger seat, a front rack, a rear-wheel cover and a plug-in throttle.<\/p>\n

Only those who signed up to the online waiting list and received an email invitation to the presale will be able to buy the Globe Haul ST from launch (8 March, 9am PST).<\/p>\n

Globe bikes will be distributed under the Specialized direct-sales<\/a> model. Customers can opt for home delivery or click and collect from a Specialized retailer.<\/p>\n
