Kask has announced the Elemento, a new all-rounder aero helmet designed for \u201cultimate performance\u201d both on- and off-road.<\/p>\n

Priced at \u00a3335\/$400\/\u20ac375\/AUD$570, Kask says the Elemento \u201ccuts no corners\u201d in pursuit of performance and delivers \u201cthe very best in aerodynamics, ventilation and safety\u201d.<\/p>\n

The Elemento has been developed in conjunction with athletes at Team Ineos-Grenadiers (the WorldTour team<\/a> that Kask sponsors), including current women\u2019s cross-country<\/a>, marathon and gravel world champion<\/a>, Pauline Ferrand-Pr\u00e9vot.<\/p>\n

According to Kask, the Elemento is a multi-discipline helmet, and is equally useful for road cycling, cross-country mountain biking, gravel riding<\/a> or cyclocross racing<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Thermal comfort is as important as aerodynamics<\/h2>\n

Temperature regulation is crucial for optimal performance, according to Kask.<\/span><\/figcaption> Kask<\/i><\/span><\/div>\n

Kask says development on the Elemento began in 2020, when it analysed a number of scientific studies focused on how an athlete\u2019s performance varies with body temperature.<\/p>\n

The Italian brand says these studies concluded \u201can athlete\u2019s thermal comfort is just as important as a helmet\u2019s weight or aerodynamics\u201d when it comes to optimising performance.<\/p>\n

As a result, it set about developing a helmet that \u2013 it claims \u2013 doesn\u2019t compromise on any of those three characteristics.<\/p>\n

Typically, even the best aero road helmets<\/a> compromise on ventilation to a degree (because they usually have fewer or smaller ventilation holes), but Kask is claiming we can have it all with the Elemento.<\/p>\n

Kask says this has been achieved by the introduction of two new technologies: Fluid Carbon 12, a composite technopolymer (an advanced plastic that\u2019s more resistant to heat and stress than standard plastics), and Multipod, a 3D-printed<\/a> material used for internal padding.<\/p>\n

The basic design of the Elemento is similar to that of the Protone Icon<\/a>, Kask\u2019s other all-rounder aero helmet.<\/p>\n

Kask says the use of Fluid Carbon 12 in the external shell has enabled it to increase the size of the Elemento\u2019s internal ventilation channels. This is claimed to help improve its ability to keep a rider\u2019s head cool despite a decrease in the size of the external ventilation holes.<\/p>\n

In turn, these smaller ventilation holes are claimed to make the Elemento more aerodynamic.<\/p>\n

Compared to the Protone Icon, Kask says the Elemento offers a 1.5 per cent reduction in aerodynamic drag, alongside an \u201cestimated 0.26\u00b0C reduction in the head temperature\u201d.<\/p>\n

The open lattice structure of the Multipod padding is also claimed to \u201cgreatly improve\u201d ventilation compared to traditional padding, while also bolstering the helmet\u2019s safety credentials.<\/p>\n

Instead of opting for a third-party system such as MIPS<\/a>, Kask has long relied upon its own technology to protect riders from rotational brain injuries in the event of a crash or accident<\/a> while riding.<\/p>\n

Kask\u2019s in-house rotational impact WG11 test, for example, is said to surpass all basic industry standards for helmet safety.<\/p>\n

The Elemento\u2019s 3D-printed Multipod padding is said to improve its ability to protect your head from rotational impact forces.<\/span><\/figcaption> Kask<\/i><\/span><\/div>\n

The Multipod padding, in particular, is claimed to help the Elemento \u201cbetter withstand linear and rotational impacts\u201d, and has \u201cisotropic properties\u201d, which means it behaves the same no matter from which direction force is applied to it.<\/p>\n

Kask says this has helped the Elemento gain a five-star (out of five) rating from Virginia Tech\u2019s Helmet Lab<\/a>. This is a first for Kask, although it\u2019s worth noting that previously only the Valegro had been tested by Virginia Tech (it received a 3-star rating).<\/p>\n

The Kask Elemento features the Octofit+ retention system, the same as that on the Protone Icon and Kask\u2019s recently launched Utopia Y<\/a> aero road helmet.<\/p>\n

Claimed weight for a size-M helmet is 260g in an unspecified colour, though our white size-M sample weighs 271g.<\/p>\n

As a point of comparison, a size-M Protone Icon is claimed to weigh 230g, while a size-M Utopia Y weighed 258g when we got our hands on one.<\/p>\n

With an RRP of \u00a3335\/$400\/\u20ac375\/AUD$570, the Elemento is the most expensive road, gravel and XC helmet in Kask\u2019s range.<\/p>\n

The Elemento is available in six colours: black, \u2018bottle green\u2019, \u2018oxford blue\u2019, red, silver and white.<\/p> <\/body><\/html>\n
