This has resulted in six injuries, \u201cincluding bone fractures, joint displacement and lacerations\u201d according to the recall statement.<\/p>\n<p>The recall affects the following models:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ultegra FC-6800<\/li>\n<li>Dura-Ace FC-9000<\/li>\n<li>Ultegra FC-R8000<\/li>\n<li>Dura-Ace FC-R9100<\/li>\n<li>Dura-Ace FC-R9100P<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The recall affects \u201cabout 680,000\u201d cranksets sold in the USA, manufactured prior to July 2019 and sold from January 2012 through August 2023. It covers a further 80,000 sold in Canada.<\/p>\n<p>The recall affects both cranksets specced on complete bikes and aftermarket.<\/p>\n<p>BikeRadar has previously reported on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/features\/shimano-crank-failure\/\">Shimano road cranksets delaminating<\/a>. However, this is the first time it has acknowledged a widespread issue with its Hollowtech cranksets.<\/p>\n<p>Owners in the USA and Canada are invited to contact an authorised Shimano dealer. Only owners of cranksets showing signs of \u201cbonding separation or delamination during the inspection will be provided a free replacement crankset and installation\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Shimano has created an official helpline to assist consumers affected by the recall. International callers can call +31792077017 between the hours of 09:00 to 21:00 CET Monday to Friday, and from 09:00 to 17:00 CET on Saturdays. The helpline is not open on Sundays.<\/p>\n<p>The statement due to be published later today will outline steps for consumers outside of the USA and Canada.<\/p>\n<p>More to follow.<\/p>\n<section class=\"highlight \"> <div class=\"highlight__content editor-content\"> \n<h2>United States Consumer Product Safety Commission recall statement\u00a0<\/h2>\n<p>The recall description listed on the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission site reads:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis recall involves Shimano Ultegra FC-6800, Dura-Ace FC-9000, Ultegra FC-R8000, Dura-Ace FC-R9100 and FC-R9100P 11-Speed Bonded Hollowtech Road Cranksets manufactured prior to July 2019 sold individually and on bicycles sold by other manufacturers such as Trek and Specialized.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA crankset is the component of the bicycle that the chain and pedals attach to for pedaling.
