Bristol\u2019s gravel networks just don\u2019t compare.\u00a0<\/p><p>Another (rather silly) highlight was conquering the Paddington Express <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/features\/routes-and-rides\/audax\/\">audax<\/a>. This was my longest ride to date at 420km and boy, did my body know about it at the end.\u00a0<\/p><p>Roll on 2024, when I plan to combine my bikepacking and audax skills in some ultra-endurance races.\u00a0<\/p><p>On the site, my content highlights included a trio of articles covering the launch of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/reviews\/components\/groupsets\/groupset-road\/campagnolo-super-record-wireless\/\">Campagnolo Super Record Wireless<\/a>, as well as attending the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/reviews\/bikes\/road-bikes\/pinarello-dogma-x-shimano-dura-ace-di2\/\">Pinarello Dogma X<\/a> launch. Waterproof protection comes courtesy of Patagonia\u2019s own three-layer stretch H2No shell with abrasion-resistant panels on the shoulders, forearms and rear tail.\u00a0<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1707\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2023\/12\/AM9A1612-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"Oscar Huckle wearing Patagonia Dirt Roamer Storm Jacket\u00a0\" class=\"wp-image-806040\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The jacket&#8217;s hood neatly covers a helmet. &#8211; Scott Windsor \/ Our Media<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/buyers-guides\/best-waterproof-jackets-for-mountain-biking\/\">mountain bike jacket<\/a> relies on a pullover style with a three-quarter length zip. There are underarm side zips for extra ventilation, which also ease fitting the large hood over a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/buyers-guides\/best-mountain-bike-helmets-for-trail-riding\/\">helmet<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p><p>I extensively relied on this jacket during my Pictish Trail trip. I was particularly impressed by their performance on sections of The Flow Country and the Cairngorms during the route, which were littered with sharp stones just waiting to pierce rubber.\u00a0<\/p><p>The tread pattern is an excellent design, shedding dirt and debris easily, and it finds a perfect balance between suppleness and grip.\u00a0<\/p><p>I continued to use them throughout the summer and into late autumn. I was so impressed with them I used another set as a control tyre when testing the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/reviews\/bikes\/gravel-bikes\/trek-checkpoint-alr-5-driftless\/\">Trek Checkpoint ALR 5 Driftless<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p><p>In my (almost) two years at BikeRadar, this is the first product I have bestowed a 5-star rating.\u00a0<\/p><div class=\"wp-block-purple-m101-price-comparsion\"><div class=\"m101\" data-type=\"price-comparison\" data-template=\"default\" data-url=\"\" data-title=\"\" data-config=\"{&quot;searchKeywords&quot;:&quot;Pirelli Cinturato Gravel RC &quot;,&quot;excludeKeywords&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;price&quot;:&quot;60.99&quot;,&quot;delta&quot;:&quot;1&quot;,&quot;limit&quot;:&quot;4&quot;}\"\/><\/div><h2 id=\"h-sidi-dust-mtb-shoes\">Sidi Dust MTB shoes\u00a0<\/h2><div class=\"wp-block-purple-m101-in-text\"><div class=\"m101\" data-type=\"in-text\" data-template=\"default\" data-url=\"\" data-text=\"Buy from {merchant} ({price}), {merchant} ({price}) and {merchant} ({price}).\" data-config=\"{&quot;searchKeywords&quot;:&quot;Sidi Dust MTB shoes\u00a0&quot;,&quot;excludeKeywords&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;priceMin&quot;:&quot;130&quot;,&quot;priceMax&quot;:&quot;260&quot;}\"\/><\/div><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1707\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2023\/12\/AM9A1640-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"Sidi Dust MTB shoes\" class=\"wp-image-806050\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">These shoes have seen plenty of use this year. &#8211; Scott Windsor \/ Our Media<\/figcaption><\/figure><ul><li>\u00a3260 \/ $324.99 \/ \u20ac290\u00a0<\/li><\/ul><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/reviews\/shoes\/mountain-bike-shoes\/sidi-dust-mtb-review\/\">Sidi\u2019s Dust MTBs<\/a> are gravel and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/buyers-guides\/best-shoes-for-mountain-bikers\/\">mountain bike shoes<\/a> and despite their high \u00a3260 asking price, use a nylon MTB SR17 sole.\u00a0<\/p><p>I was intrigued by this decision before I started testing the shoes, with Sidi claiming the nylon sole \u201crepresents the ultimate result in terms of pedalling stiffness and flexion for walking\u201d. <\/p><p>The brand further explained it wanted the shoes to be comfortable for walking in inevitable hike-a-bike moments, as well as for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/buyers-guides\/best-downcountry-mountain-bikes\/\">downcountry<\/a>, where earth-shattering stiffness isn\u2019t critical.\u00a0<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1707\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2023\/12\/AM9A1644-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"Sidi Dust MTB shoes\" class=\"wp-image-806053\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The nylon sole is comfortable for rides of all lengths. &#8211; Scott Windsor \/ Our Media<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>I came away very impressed by the Dust MTBs&#8217; performance across all disciplines and ride lengths and really appreciated their comfort, roomy toebox and excellent ventilation.\u00a0<\/p><p>There are some flaws though \u2013 they\u2019re pricey, the single Tecno-3 dial that closes the shoe is a mistake and although I haven\u2019t experienced any slippage, the heel cup could do with being a hair tighter.\u00a0<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1706\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2023\/12\/AM9A1642-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"Sidi Dust MTB shoes\" class=\"wp-image-806052\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">A second Tecno-3 dial would better improve the fit. &#8211; Scott Windsor \/ Our Media<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>Yet, despite their cons, they\u2019re shoes I keep coming back to because I know I can rely on them for my long-distance escapades.\u00a0<\/p><p>I\u2019m intrigued by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/news\/eurobike-2023-day-two\/\">Dust Shoelace that was announced at Eurobike<\/a>. That essentially means it\u2019s optimised for gravel and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/buyers-guides\/best-mountain-bike-tyres\/\">mountain bike tyres<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p><p>The pump sports a non-linear gauge, with the first 30psi shown in 0.5psi increments so you can really dial in your tyre pressure. The rest of the gauge is portrayed in 2psi increments up to 120psi.\u00a0<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1707\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2023\/12\/AM9A1589-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"Silca Terra pump gauge\" class=\"wp-image-806034\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The non-linear gauge is particularly useful for optimising gravel and mountain bike tyre pressures. &#8211; Scott Windsor \/ Our Media<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>I\u2019ve found this really useful when dialling in the pressures of various mountain and gravel bikes I\u2019ve tested this year, as well as standalone tyre reviews.
