{"id":57841,"date":"2023-12-27T11:00:00","date_gmt":"2023-12-27T10:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/07b790e8-f6e4-4962-9cc0-0fff611a8ac8"},"modified":"2024-01-03T09:00:29","modified_gmt":"2024-01-03T08:00:29","slug":"bike-of-the-week-santa-cruzs-latest-stigmata-gears-up-for-rowdier-riding","status":"publish","type":"rss_feed","link":"https:\/\/c01.purpledshub.com\/cyclingplus\/rss_feed\/bike-of-the-week-santa-cruzs-latest-stigmata-gears-up-for-rowdier-riding\/","title":{"rendered":"Bike of the Week | Santa Cruz&#8217;s latest Stigmata gears up for rowdier riding\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"rssexcerpt\">New Stigmata gets more progressive geometry and down tube storage <\/p><p class=\"rssauthor\">By Oscar Huckle\n      <\/p><p class=\"rssbyline\">Published: Wednesday, 27 December 2023 at 10:00 AM<\/p><hr class=\"no-tts wp-block-separator\"\/><?xml version=\"1.0\" encoding=\"UTF-8\" standalone=\"yes\"?>\n<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC \"-\/\/W3C\/\/DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional\/\/EN\" \"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/REC-html40\/loose.dtd\">\n<html><body><p>Santa Cruz\u2019s Stigmata has arrived at BikeRadar for testing and the brand\u2019s latest itertion of its gravel bike takes more than a few cues from its mountain bike models.\u00a0<\/p><p>The bike\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/sizing-and-fit\/gravel-bike-geometry-sizing\/\">geometry<\/a> has become more progressive, with all models sporting a slackened 69.5-degree head tube angle, down from the 71 to 72-degree range of its predecessor.\u00a0<\/p><p>Reach has increased by 30mm across all sizes, with shorter 70mm stems specced on all models to compensate.\u00a0<\/p><p>Let\u2019s take a closer look at this genre-blurring bike.\u00a0<\/p><h2 id=\"h-a-top-tier-frame-with-sensible-spec-choices\">A top-tier frame with sensible spec choices<\/h2><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The Stigmata only comes in the brand&#8217;s top CC carbon. &#8211; Scott Windsor \/ Our Media<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>This new fourth-generation Stigmata is only available in the brand\u2019s premium CC carbon fibre \u2013 there is no more cost-effective C option, which the brand offers on some of its mountain bikes.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p><p>The bike inherits the Santa Cruz Glovebox down-tube storage system, in which you can stow your snacks and tools.\u00a0<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1707\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2023\/12\/AM9A1914-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"Glovebox down tube storage on Santa Cruz Stigmata\" class=\"wp-image-807495\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Two purses are stored inside the Glovebox \u2013 one for spares and one for snacks. &#8211; Scott Windsor \/ Our Media<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>It ignores the trend towards <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/features\/tech\/the-truth-about-internal-cable-routing\/\">integration<\/a>, with Santa Cruz opting to route the hydraulic hoses externally from the handlebar before they are fed internally through a pair of down tube ports.\u00a0<\/p><p>Santa Cruz claims it designed the bike in this way so you can easily fit a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/buyers-guides\/gravel-bike-suspension\/\">gravel suspension fork<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1707\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2023\/12\/AM9A1924-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"SRAM Force AXS rear derailleur and cassette\" class=\"wp-image-807500\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Santa Cruz specs a Universal Derailleur Hanger. &#8211; Scott Windsor \/ Our Media<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>The Stigmata uses a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/workshop\/sram-udh\/\">SRAM Universal Derailleur Hanger<\/a>, bringing compatibility with the brand\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/reviews\/components\/groupsets\/groupset-mountain\/sram-xx-t-type-eagle-transmission-powermeter-axs-review\/\">T-Type Eagle Transmission drivetrains<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p><p>There\u2019s clearance for up to 50mm-wide <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/buyers-guides\/best-gravel-tyres\/\">gravel bike tyres<\/a> when using <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/buyers-guides\/700c-wheels\/\">700c wheels<\/a> in a 1x configuration, and 45mm with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/buyers-guides\/best-mudguards-fenders-a-buyers-guide\/\">mudguards<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p><p>The clearance drops to 45mm if you\u2019re using a 2x drivetrain with 700c wheels. Santa Cruz says it doesn\u2019t recommend the use of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/features\/what-is-650b\/\">27.5in wheels<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1707\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2023\/12\/AM9A1949-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"Santa Cruz Stigmata seatstay junction\" class=\"wp-image-807516\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">There&#8217;s still plenty of room around this 45mm rubber. &#8211; Scott Windsor \/ Our Media<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>With a 2x drivetrain, Santa Cruz says you need to run an electronic front derailleur, or use one of the following Shimano mechanical options \u2013\u00a0R7000, R7100, R8000, R9000 or R9100.\u00a0<\/p><p>The Stigmata also won\u2019t work with a SRAM mechanical <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/buyers-guides\/front-derailleur\/\">front derailleur<\/a> due to the lack of an integrated housing stop.\u00a0<\/p><p>The frame uses a 27.2mm <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/buyers-guides\/seatposts\/\">seatpost<\/a> diameter.
