{"id":58631,"date":"2024-01-17T14:20:38","date_gmt":"2024-01-17T13:20:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/1311015c-82a7-46dd-b093-b8acecb4dea2"},"modified":"2024-01-17T16:00:14","modified_gmt":"2024-01-17T15:00:14","slug":"you-can-now-buy-eddy-merckx-bikes-again","status":"publish","type":"rss_feed","link":"https:\/\/c01.purpledshub.com\/cyclingplus\/rss_feed\/you-can-now-buy-eddy-merckx-bikes-again\/","title":{"rendered":"You can now buy Eddy Merckx bikes again"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"rssexcerpt\">Iconic Belgian brand returns with updated and new road and gravel models <\/p><p class=\"rssauthor\">By Jack Evans\n      <\/p><p class=\"rssbyline\">Published: Wednesday, 17 January 2024 at 13:20 PM<\/p><hr class=\"no-tts wp-block-separator\"\/><?xml version=\"1.0\" encoding=\"UTF-8\" standalone=\"yes\"?>\n<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC \"-\/\/W3C\/\/DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional\/\/EN\" \"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/REC-html40\/loose.dtd\">\n<html><body><p>Eddy Merckx Bikes has announced it will restart production after a three-year, pandemic-enforced hiatus in which the brand virtually vanished from view.<\/p><p>The 2024 range includes the existing 525 race bike, the updated Mendrisio endurance road bike, and all-new Strasbourg gravel bike and P\u00e9v\u00e8le all-road bike.\u00a0<\/p><p>Eddy Merckx Bikes will also offer a custom-built option, the retro-inspired Corsa in titanium or steel.\u00a0<\/p><p>Initially, the bikes will only be available in the UK and Europe.<\/p><h2 id=\"h-2024-eddy-merckx-bikes-range\">2024 Eddy Merckx Bikes range\u00a0<\/h2><p>The brand, founded and named after the five-time Tour de France champion, says the bikes are designed and built in Belgium.\u00a0<\/p><h3 id=\"h-eddy-merckx-525\">Eddy Merckx 525<\/h3><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The 525 race bike is designed to be fast on the flat. &#8211; Eddy Merckx Bikes<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>The 525 is a UCI-approved, all-round race bike with aero tubing, an integrated cockpit and aggressive geometry.<\/p><p>Named after Merckx\u2019s 525 career victories, the brand says the \u201cfast and feisty\u201d 525 is designed to be at home in the cobbled and windy Belgian classics.\u00a0<\/p><p>The frame, including the distinctive S-shaped seatstays for seated comfort, is unchanged.\u00a0<\/p><p>But now consumers will be able to buy a complete bike from \u20ac5,649 for a build with Shimano 105 Di2 R7100 and Forza Levanto db carbon wheels, or as a frameset for \u20ac3,499.<\/p><h3 id=\"h-eddy-merckx-mendrisio\">Eddy Merckx Mendrisio<\/h3><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1300\" height=\"866\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/01\/mendrisio.jpeg\" alt=\"Eddy Merckx Mendrisio endurance road bike against wall\" class=\"wp-image-812233\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The Mendrisio is somewhat aero-optimised, with less racy geometry than the 525. &#8211; Eddy Merckx Bikes<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>The Mendrisio is named after the Swiss town where Merckx won his second world championship in 1971.<\/p><p>The \u201cfast, performance-focused but comfortable\u201d endurance road bike has a similar form factor to the 525\u2019s drag-reducing profile, but its geometry is more relaxed.<\/p><p>It also uses a round seatpost instead of the aero-profiled one seen on the 525.<\/p><p>Like the 525, the Mendrisio is only available in carbon and starts from \u20ac2,699 for a build with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/news\/shimano-105-r7100-mechanical\">12-speed, mechanical Shimano 105<\/a> and Forza Norte db aluminium wheels.\u00a0The frameset costs \u20ac1,999.<\/p><h3 id=\"h-eddy-merckx-pevele\">Eddy Merckx P\u00e9v\u00e8le<\/h3><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1707\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/01\/DSC09730-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"Eddy Merckx P\u00e9v\u00e8le all-road bike being ridden on gravel\" class=\"wp-image-812237\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The P\u00e9v\u00e8le is claimed to excel on dirt and tarmac. &#8211; Eddy Merckx Bikes<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>The P\u00e9v\u00e8le is a brand new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/buyers-guides\/all-road-bikes-explained\">all-road bike <\/a>intended for long road rides and fast gravel rides, according to the brand.<\/p><p>Available in aluminium, steel or carbon form, the frame has clearance for up to 42mm-wide tyres and has multiple mount points for accessories. It\u2019s also compatible with internal cable routing for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/buyers-guides\/bike-dynamos\">dynamo lights<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p><p>Named after the Mons-en-P\u00e9v\u00e8le cobbled secteur from Paris-Roubaix, the P\u00e9v\u00e8le is available in aluminium, steel and carbon.\u00a0<\/p><p>The alloy model starts the range at \u20ac1,828, while the steel version starts at \u20ac2,149. The carbon model is priced from \u20ac3,299.\u00a0<\/p><h3 id=\"h-eddy-merckx-strasbourg\">Eddy Merckx Strasbourg<\/h3><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1300\" height=\"867\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/01\/strasbourg.jpeg\" alt=\"Eddy Merckx Strasbourg gravel bike on dirt path\" class=\"wp-image-812236\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The Strasbourg is an all-new adventure gravel bike. &#8211; Eddy Merckx Bikes<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>The Strasbourg is the brand\u2019s new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/buyers-guides\/best-gravel-bikes\">gravel bike<\/a> and also comes in steel, alloy and carbon.\u00a0<\/p><p>Made for \u201cextremely challenging terrain\u201d, the Strasbourg has a maximum tyre clearance of 45mm when set up with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/buyers-guides\/1x-drivetrains\">1x drivetrain<\/a> and is compatible with suspension forks.\u00a0<\/p><p>Strasbourg is where Merckx outsprinted great foe Roger de Vlaeminck on a dirt track to win a stage of the 1971 Tour de France.<\/p><p>However, this bike is more geared towards <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/features\/routes-and-rides\/bikepacking\">bikepacking<\/a> than <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/features\/routes-and-rides\/gravel-racing\">gravel racing<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p><p>The frame is dotted with mounting points for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/buyers-guides\/bikepacking-bags\">bikepacking bags<\/a>. The brand claims its low centre of gravity provides stability on rough ground.\u00a0<\/p><p>Available from \u20ac1,799 in aluminium or \u20ac2,149 in steel, prices start from \u20ac2,999 for the carbon version.\u00a0<\/p><h3 id=\"h-eddy-merckx-corsa\">Eddy Merckx Corsa\u00a0<\/h3><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1707\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/01\/eddymerckxcorsa-scaled.jpeg\" alt=\"Eddy Merckx Corsa custom bike against orange shipping container\" class=\"wp-image-812234\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The Corsa can be custom built to your preference. &#8211; Eddy Merckx Bikes<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>The Corsa can be configured in road, all-road or gravel guises, in steel or titanium and in standard sizes, or custom fitted to you.<\/p><p>Despite its classic round tube shapes, Eddy Merckx Bikes says the Corsa\u2019s tapered head tube makes it compatible with fully <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/features\/tech\/the-truth-about-internal-cable-routing\">integrated cable routing<\/a>, if desired.<\/p><p>The frameset can accommodate mechanical or electronic groupsets and has clearance for 30, 38 or 42mm-wide tyres in its road, all-road or gravel guises, according to the brand.\u00a0<\/p><p>Prices for the non-custom frames start at \u20ac1,995 for steel and \u20ac3,490 for titanium.
