The R50 rims remain 50mm deep.<\/p><p>The new wheelsets are priced at \u20ac1,500 each. The necessary <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/reviews\/classified-powershift-hub-review\">142mm Powershift hub system<\/a> must be bought separately, for \u20ac1,299.<\/p><h2 id=\"h-updated-rim-profiles\">Updated rim profiles<\/h2><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The updated Classified wheels are available in a shallower 36mm-deep profile\u2026 &#8211; Ashley Quinlan \/ Our Media<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>Classified has sought to modernise the rim profiles for its latest generation of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/buyers-guides\/buyers-guide-to-road-bike-wheels\">wheelsets<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p><p>The R36 has seen a depth jump of 1mm versus the previous R35, but the main changes are seen inside.<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1707\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/01\/20240117_009_Ashley-Quinlan-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"Classified R50 carbon wheel\" class=\"wp-image-812358\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">\u2026and a 50mm-deep profile. Both have the same width dimensions. &#8211; Ashley Quinlan \/ Our Media<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>The internal rim width now measures 22.5mm (up from 19mm), while the outer width has broadened to 28.5mm (up from 27mm).<\/p><p>Classified says the changes have been made in response to the increasing popularity of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/buyers-guides\/are-wider-tyres-faster\">running wider tyres<\/a>. Now, instead of recommending an upper limit of 700x32c tyres, the new wheels can support up to 700x42c rubber.<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1707\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/01\/20240117_004_Ashley-Quinlan-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"Classified R36 carbon wheel rim\" class=\"wp-image-812355\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Tidy graphics indicate a 110psi \/ 7.5 BAR upper pressure limit. &#8211; Ashley Quinlan \/ Our Media<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>This gives the wheels greater all-road versatility, while Classified has hinted the wheels could also be used with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/buyers-guides\/best-gravel-tyres\">gravel tyres<\/a> in faster <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/features\/routes-and-rides\/gravel-racing\">gravel races<\/a>.<\/p><p>The rims continue to feature a hooked design, catering for both tubeless and clincher tyres. Each comes with tubeless tape fitted.<\/p><h2 id=\"h-no-standard-freehub-choice\">No standard freehub choice<\/h2><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1707\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/01\/20240117_008_Ashley-Quinlan-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"Classified R36 carbon wheel hub\" class=\"wp-image-812357\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">They&#8217;re Powershift-hub compatible only. &#8211; Ashley Quinlan \/ Our Media<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>Unsurprisingly, Classified\u2019s R36 and R50 wheelsets are compatible only with its 142mm Powershift hub system \u2013 evidenced by the specific housing featured at the empty rear-wheel hub shell.<\/p><p>The new wheels see 22 Pillar Wing straight-pull spokes lace the rim to the hubs (a switch from DT Swiss Aerolite spokes).<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1707\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/01\/20240117_016_Ashley-Quinlan-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"Classified R50 carbon wheel hub shell\" class=\"wp-image-812362\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The hub shell gives away the specific drivetrain setup the Classified wheelsets are designed for. &#8211; Ashley Quinlan \/ Our Media<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>The front wheel features a standard hub design with stainless steel bearings, given that the Powershift hub system is contained in the rear wheel.<\/p><p>Despite the slightly deeper, wider rim design, the R36 is claimed to weigh in the region of 1,315g, and the R50 1,415g \u2013 the same as the previous generation.<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1707\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/01\/20240117_015_Ashley-Quinlan-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"Classified R50 carbon wheel hub shell\" class=\"wp-image-812361\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The spokes are straight-pull Pillar Wing models. &#8211; Ashley Quinlan \/ Our Media<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>Both of these figures are quoted without a Powershift hub installed \u2013 riders can expect this to add around 475g to the rear wheel, plus the wireless shifting apparatus on the bike (the dedicated smart thru-axle, shifter button, torque arm and Classified cassette).\u00a0<\/p><p>Of course, the system enables the removal of the front derailleur and the use of a 1x chainring (while the cassette is a swap-out), so the weight penalty is partially mitigated.<\/p><h2 id=\"h-pricing-and-availability\">Pricing and availability<\/h2><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1707\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/01\/20240117_021_Ashley-Quinlan-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"Classified R36 and R50 carbon wheel rims\" class=\"wp-image-812364\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The Powershift hub system must be bought in addition, adding to the \u20ac1,500 wheelset price. &#8211; Ashley Quinlan \/ Our Media<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>The new wheelsets are available from today and are on display at the Velofollies consumer bike show in Kortrijk, Belgium.\u00a0<\/p><p>Both the R36 and R50 wheelsets cost \u20ac1,500, without the Powershift hub system.
