{"id":59801,"date":"2024-02-19T17:09:21","date_gmt":"2024-02-19T16:09:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/97a267d6-cf41-4a11-8ea2-7b2de9db3a12"},"modified":"2024-02-19T18:59:41","modified_gmt":"2024-02-19T17:59:41","slug":"new-oakley-aro-7-helmet-cheats-the-wind-with-integrated-visor","status":"publish","type":"rss_feed","link":"https:\/\/c01.purpledshub.com\/cyclingplus\/rss_feed\/new-oakley-aro-7-helmet-cheats-the-wind-with-integrated-visor\/","title":{"rendered":"New Oakley Aro 7 helmet cheats the wind with integrated visor"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"rssexcerpt\">We get a sneak peek at Oakley&#8217;s latest helmet, set to launch in six weeks <\/p><p class=\"rssauthor\">By Stan Portus\n      <\/p><p class=\"rssbyline\">Published: Monday, 19 February 2024 at 16:09 PM<\/p><hr class=\"no-tts wp-block-separator\"\/><?xml version=\"1.0\" encoding=\"UTF-8\" standalone=\"yes\"?>\n<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC \"-\/\/W3C\/\/DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional\/\/EN\" \"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/REC-html40\/loose.dtd\">\n<html><body><p>BikeRadar can reveal the new Oakley Aro 7 helmet with an integrated visor.<\/p><p>Spotted at the COREbike show, the Aro 7 shares a name with Oakley\u2019s integrated time trial helmet <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/news\/oakley-launches-optics-integrated-slippery-and-well-ventilated-road-helmets\">launched in 2017<\/a>.<\/p><p>But the new Aro7 is aimed at road riding and racing, with greater ventilation minimising the risk of feeling hot-headed on race day.\u00a0<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-practicality-meets-performance\">Practicality meets performance<\/h2><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Scott Windsor \/ Our Media<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>While the previous Aro 7 focused on time trialling, the new version pairs performance with practicality, so you can wear it for more of your riding.\u00a0<\/p><p>Speaking to BikeRadar, Oakley UK\u2019s Simon Clark says that while time trial helmets are great for events, they are often too hot for general riding.<\/p><p>\u201cMost of the time, people want to be riding in an actual, fast road helmet,\u201d says Clark.\u00a0<\/p><p>Clark adds that while <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/buyers-guides\/best-time-trial-helmets-real-world-testing-of-5-favourites\">time trial helmets<\/a> are great for events, they are often too hot for general riding. He says you can use the Aro 7 \u201cfor anything\u201d, including fast club rides and crit racing.\u00a0<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2400\" height=\"1600\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/02\/Oakley-ARO-7-aero-road-bike-helmet-with-removable-visor-26-8.jpg\" alt=\"Oakley ARO 7 aero road bike helmet held in hands.\" class=\"wp-image-817764\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Scott Windsor \/ Our Media<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>To avoid heat build-up, the new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/buyers-guides\/best-aero-helmets\">aero helmet<\/a> has vents across the front and rear, presumably to encourage a circulation effect through its interior.\u00a0<\/p><p>We haven\u2019t heard anything official from Oakley yet, but there could be an aerodynamic benefit to the large vent across the Aro 7\u2019s front.\u00a0<\/p><p>According to Dr Jamie Pringle, applied sport scientist and part of the setup at Vorteq Sports, a world leader in cycling aerodynamics, there is a growing trend for helmets with significant air intake and exhausts.<\/p><p>Pringle says knowing how to use airflow through a helmet, there is potentially a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/features\/tech\/2024-aero-tech-trends\">significant aero advantage<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p><p>The visor attaches to the aero road helmet with magnets and can be stored in an upside-down position when it\u2019s not needed.\u00a0<\/p><p>Clark points out the practicality of this in triathlons: \u201cYou can leave [the visor] stored on top of the helmet in the transition zone, whack [the helmet] on, and flip it over and you\u2019ve got your aero visor.\u201d<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-why-use-an-integrated-visor\">Why use an integrated visor?<\/h2><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2400\" height=\"1600\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/02\/Oakley-ARO-7-aero-road-bike-helmet-with-removable-visor-21-7.jpg\" alt=\"Hands demonstrating visor being removed from Oakley ARO 7 aero road bike helmet.\" class=\"wp-image-817763\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Scott Windsor \/ Our Media<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>An integrated visor may seem like an odd choice over the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/buyers-guides\/best-glasses-for-cycling\">best cycling sunglasses<\/a>, but it can offer a further aero advantage over typical <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/buyers-guides\/best-aero-helmets\">aero road helmets<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p><p>Oakley is not the only brand to bring integrated visors to road riding.
