This requires the removal of the tyre and rim tape.<\/p><p>Meanwhile, FFWD has switched from a DT Swiss 180 hub to one of its own, with specially made CeramicSpeed bearings.<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1707\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/02\/AM9A4336-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"CeramicSpeed hub on FFWD Raw44 wheels\" class=\"wp-image-819631\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Scott Windsor \/ Our Media<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>These make the Raw wheels smoother, faster-rolling and more durable, according to FFWD.\u00a0<\/p><p>Since the spokes and CeramicSpeed bearings are custom made for the Raw wheels, FFWD says you\u2019ll have to order replacements directly from it.\u00a0<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-lightweight-climbing-wheels\">Lightweight climbing wheels\u00a0<\/h2><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1707\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/02\/AM9A4322-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"FFWD Raw44 road disc wheel\" class=\"wp-image-819625\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Scott Windsor \/ Our Media<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>FFWD describes the Raw as a lightweight <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/features\/tech\/aero-vs-lightweight-wheels\">climbing wheelset<\/a>, which sits above the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/reviews\/components\/wheels\/wheel-sets\/ffwd-ryot-33-disc\"> RYOT 33 Disc<\/a> in the Dutch brand\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/buyers-guides\/buyers-guide-to-road-bike-wheels\">road bike wheel<\/a> range.\u00a0<\/p><p>Claimed weights are 1,350g for the 33mm-deep Raw33, 1,395g for the 44mm-deep Raw44 and 1,460g for the 55mm-deep Raw55.\u00a0<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1707\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/02\/AM9A4326-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"FFWD logo on FFWD Raw44 wheel\" class=\"wp-image-819627\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Scott Windsor \/ Our Media<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>The Raw44 comes in slightly heavier on our scales at 1,400g, with the front wheel weighing 628g and the rear 772g, including the SRAM XDR <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/buyers-guides\/freehubs\">freehub<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p><p>FFWD says the Raw44 is lighter, stiffer and more affordable than rival mid-depth road wheelsets, including the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/reviews\/components\/wheels\/wheel-sets\/dt-swiss-erc-1100-dicut-45-wheelset-review\">DT Swiss ERC1100 45<\/a> and Reserve 40\/44. But it doesn&#8217;t provide any data to support the stiffness claim. <\/p><p>Campagnolo, Shimano and Micro Spline freehub bodies are also available.\u00a0<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-hooked-rims\">Hooked rims\u00a0<\/h2><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1707\" hookless rims in the pro peloton<\/a> has been called into question, but all Raw models have hooked, tubeless-ready rims.<\/p><p>FFWD says this ensures compatibility with the majority of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/buyers-guides\/best-road-bike-tyres\">road bike tyres<\/a> and sizes available.\u00a0<\/p><p>The minimum tyre width for the 21mm-wide internal rim is 23mm and the maximum is 42mm, according to the brand.\u00a0<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1707\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/buyers-guides\/road-bike-axle-standards\">thru-axles<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p><p>The brand says the wheels are hand-built in the Netherlands and are available with a
