10 unique pro setups from the Queen of the Classics"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"rssexcerpt\">When the going gets tough, what kit do the pros rely on? <\/p><p class=\"rssauthor\">By Simon von Bromley\n      <\/p><p class=\"rssbyline\">Published: Wednesday, 10 April 2024 at 16:00 PM<\/p><hr class=\"no-tts wp-block-separator\"\/><?xml version=\"1.0\" encoding=\"UTF-8\" standalone=\"yes\"?>\n<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC \"-\/\/W3C\/\/DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional\/\/EN\" \"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/REC-html40\/loose.dtd\">\n<html><body><p>Paris-Roubaix is one of the few WorldTour races that still requires riders and teams to bring out rarely seen specialist equipment, so it\u2019s one marked on every bike nerd\u2019s calendar.<\/p><p>With 55.7km of cobbled roads over 260km of racing, the unique parcours pose significant challenges for bikes designed to be as light and aerodynamic as possible.<\/p><p>While <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/features\/tech\/lost-tech-that-defined-paris-roubaix\">the tech that defined past editions of the race<\/a> has largely disappeared, no rider or team takes for granted how hard this race is on equipment.<\/p><p>We sent our beady-eyed photographer, Matt Grayson, to scour the pre-race team pits of both the men\u2019s and women\u2019s races for the most interesting <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/features\/pro-bike\">pro bikes<\/a>, and \u2013 as always \u2013 he delivered.<\/p><p>In this mega gallery, we\u2019ve got Lotte Kopecky\u2019s race-winning Specialized S-Works Tarmac SL8, Alison Jackson\u2019s custom-painted Cannondale SuperSix EVO Lab71, Tom Pidcock\u2019s Pinarello Dogma F, Mads Pedersen\u2019s Trek Madone SLR, and much, much more.<\/p><p>Before we get to those bikes, though, if you\u2019ve come looking for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/features\/pro-bike\/mathieu-van-der-poel-2024-paris-roubaix-canyon-aeroad\">Mathieu van der Poel\u2019s Paris-Roubaix-winning Canyon Aeroad CFR<\/a>, fear not \u2013 we\u2019ve got a full gallery of images delving into that bike in greater detail in a separate article.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-lotte-kopecky-s-specialized-s-works-tarmac-sl8\">Lotte Kopecky\u2019s Specialized S-Works Tarmac SL8<\/h2><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Lotte Kopecky&#8217;s race-winning Specialized S-Works Tarmac SL8. &#8211; SRAM<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>The winner of the 2024 Paris-Roubaix Femmes, Lotte Kopecky, rode an all-black version of Specialized\u2019s flagship all-rounder road bike, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/reviews\/bikes\/road-bikes\/specialized-s-works-tarmac-sl8-dura-ace-di2-review\">S-Works Tarmac SL8<\/a>.<\/p><p>It was a choice echoed by the other riders on Specialized-sponsored teams, with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/reviews\/bikes\/road-bikes\/specialized-s-works-roubaix-sl8-first-ride-review\">S-Works Roubaix SL8<\/a> nowhere to be seen at this year\u2019s race.<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2400\" height=\"1600\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/04\/Lotte-Kopeckys-2024-Paris-Roubaix-Specialized-S-Works-Tarmac-SL8_008.jpg\" alt=\"Lotte Kopecky's 2024 Paris-Roubaix Specialized S-Works Tarmac SL8\" class=\"wp-image-826065\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Kopecky opted for a two-piece cockpit, rather than the bike&#8217;s stock integrated option. &#8211; Matt Grayson \/ Our Media<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>Eschewing the brand\u2019s Roval Rapide integrated cockpit, Kopecky opted for a separate bar and stem, with a round handlebar.<\/p><p>The stem comes from the previous-generation <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/reviews\/bikes\/road-bikes\/specialized-s-works-tarmac-sl7-review\">Tarmac SL7<\/a>, but the bar may have been non-sponsor-correct because the team wrapped it with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/buyers-guides\/best-handlebar-tape\">handlebar tape<\/a> all the way to the stem clamp.<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2400\" height=\"1600\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/04\/Lotte-Kopeckys-2024-Paris-Roubaix-Specialized-S-Works-Tarmac-SL8_007.jpg\" alt=\"Lotte Kopecky's 2024 Paris-Roubaix Specialized S-Works Tarmac SL8\" class=\"wp-image-826064\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Kopecky&#8217;s saddle isn&#8217;t sponsor-correct, but you&#8217;d only know by looking very closely. &#8211; Matt Grayson \/ Our Media<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>Kopecky\u2019s saddle appeared to be a Syncros Belcarra \u2013 from the component brand owned by Scott. Naturally, any offending logos were covered up carefully.<\/p><p>Elsewhere, the current world road race champion had a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/reviews\/components\/groupsets\/groupset-road\/sram-12-speed-red-etap-axs-hrd-review\">SRAM Red eTap AXS groupset<\/a> set up 1x with a K-Edge chain guide for added security.<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1816\" height=\"1210\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/04\/Lotte-Kopeckys-2024-Paris-Roubaix-Specialized-S-Works-Tarmac-SL8_002.jpg\" alt=\"Lotte Kopecky's 2024 Paris-Roubaix Specialized S-Works Tarmac SL8\" class=\"wp-image-826059\" style=\"aspect-ratio:3\/2;object-fit:cover\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Kopecky opted for a 1x drivetrain with a 50T SRAM Red AXS aero chainring up front. &#8211; SRAM<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>Contrary to many riders, Kopecky opted for a relatively small 50t chainring paired to a 10-33t cassette. It\u2019s worth bearing in mind her 50x10t top gear is \u2013 in terms of gear ratio \u2013 equivalent to a 55x11t, though.<\/p><p>Like most of her teammates, Kopecky opted for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/news\/2023-specialized-s-works-mondo\">Specialized&#8217;s S-Works Mondo endurance tyres<\/a> set up tubeless on a set of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/reviews\/components\/wheels\/wheel-sets\/roval-rapide-clx-ii-wheelset-review\">Roval Rapide CLX II wheels<\/a>.<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1500\" height=\"999\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/04\/Lotte-Kopeckys-2024-Paris-Roubaix-Specialized-S-Works-Tarmac-SL8_004.jpg\" alt=\"Lotte Kopecky's 2024 Paris-Roubaix Specialized S-Works Tarmac SL8\" class=\"wp-image-826061\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Kopecky put the power down via a set of custom Time XPro 12 pedals. &#8211; SRAM<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>Kopecky used a set of custom world-champion themed Time XPro 12 pedals \u2013 another option from the SRAM stable of brands.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-marianne-vos-cervelo-soloist\">Marianne Vos\u2019 Cerv\u00e9lo Soloist<\/h2><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1964\" height=\"1309\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/04\/Marianne-Vos-2024-Paris-Roubaix-Cervelo-Soloist_001-edited.jpg\" alt=\"Marianne Vos' 2024 Paris-Roubaix Cerv\u00e9lo Soloist\" class=\"wp-image-826122\" style=\"aspect-ratio:3\/2;object-fit:cover\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Marianne Vos finished just off the podium at the 2024 Paris-Roubaix Femmes.<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>Although Cerv\u00e9lo said it was targeting amateur racers with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/news\/2022-cervelo-soloist\">recently revamped Soloist<\/a>, that hasn\u2019t stopped the brand\u2019s elite sponsored riders selecting it for cobbled classics.<\/p><p>We suspect this is because the riders feel it strikes a better balance of low weight, comfort and aerodynamic efficiency than either the more <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/reviews\/bikes\/road-bikes\/cervelo-s5-force-etap-axs-review\">aero-focused S5<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/reviews\/bikes\/road-bikes\/cervelo-r5-disc-force-etap-axs-review\">climbing-friendly R5<\/a>.<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2019\" height=\"1346\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/04\/Marianne-Vos-2024-Paris-Roubaix-Cervelo-Soloist_003-edited.jpg\" alt=\"Marianne Vos' 2024 Paris-Roubaix Cerv\u00e9lo Soloist\" class=\"wp-image-826123\" style=\"aspect-ratio:3\/2;object-fit:cover\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Vos was another of many SRAM-sponsored riders using 1x drivetrains at this year&#8217;s race.<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>That aside, wider tyres, a non-integrated cockpit and a 1x drivetrain mark out Marianne Vos\u2019 Soloist as a Paris-Roubaix bike.<\/p><p>Like Kopekcy, Vos used a SRAM Red eTap AXS groupset in 1x form with a K-Edge chain guide. Vos, however, opted for a slightly bigger, 52t chainring, paired with what looked like a wide-ranging cassette.<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2400\" height=\"1600\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/04\/Marianne-Vos-2024-Paris-Roubaix-Cervelo-Soloist_002.jpg\" alt=\"Marianne Vos' 2024 Paris-Roubaix Cerv\u00e9lo Soloist\" class=\"wp-image-826072\" style=\"aspect-ratio:3\/2;object-fit:cover\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Vos used Resevre&#8217;s new 42|49 wheelset, with chunky Vittoria Corsa Pro TLR tyres. &#8211; Matt Grayson \/ Our Media<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>The three-time world road race champion used a set of as-yet-unreleased Reserve 42|49 wheels. Based on Reserve\u2019s previous naming conventions, these almost certainly have a 42mm-deep front rim paired with a 49mm-deep rear.<\/p><p>These were paired with a set of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/reviews\/components\/tyres\/road-bike-tyres\/vittoria-corsa-pro-tlr-tyre-review\">Vittoria Corsa Pro TLR tyres<\/a>, set up tubeless, in a size 700x32c.<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2400\" height=\"1600\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/04\/Marianne-Vos-2024-Paris-Roubaix-Cervelo-Soloist_004.jpg\" alt=\"Marianne Vos' 2024 Paris-Roubaix Cerv\u00e9lo Soloist\" class=\"wp-image-826074\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Vos also opted for a two-piece cockpit, although she still used a carbon bar. &#8211; Matt Grayson \/ Our Media<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>Vos used <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/reviews\/components\/pedals\/wahoo-speedplay-zero-pedals-review\">Wahoo Speedplay Zero pedals<\/a> and a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/news\/fizik-vento-argo-00-saddle\">Fizik Vento Argo 00 saddle<\/a>.<\/p><p>Her cockpit came courtesy of team sponsor FSA, with an SL-K alloy stem (adorned with notes about each cobbled sector) paired with a round FSA carbon handlebar.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-alison-jackson-s-custom-painted-cannondale-supersix-evo-lab71\">Alison Jackson\u2019s custom-painted Cannondale SuperSix EVO Lab71<\/h2><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1541\" height=\"1027\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/04\/Allison-Jacksons-2024-Paris-Roubaix-custom-painted-Cannondale-SuperSix-EVO-Lab71_006-edited.jpg\" alt=\"Allison Jackson\u2019s 2024 Paris-Roubaix custom-painted Cannondale SuperSix EVO Lab71\" class=\"wp-image-826101\" style=\"aspect-ratio:3\/2;object-fit:cover\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Alison Jackson\u2019s custom-painted Cannondale SuperSix EVO Lab71 features a stand-out paintjob.<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>Last year\u2019s winner of the women\u2019s race, Alison Jackson, is also the reigning Canadian national road race champion. As such, she took to the start of this year\u2019s edition aboard a beautifully painted custom bike.<\/p><p>The frameset features a striking red and white paintjob, complete with maple leaf motifs and a \u201cDon\u2019t think, just dance\u201d note on the top tube (referring to Jackon\u2019s famously sharp moves off the bike).<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2400\" height=\"1600\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/04\/Allison-Jacksons-2024-Paris-Roubaix-custom-painted-Cannondale-SuperSix-EVO-Lab71_005.jpg\" alt=\"Allison Jackson\u2019s 2024 Paris-Roubaix custom-painted Cannondale SuperSix EVO Lab71\" class=\"wp-image-826037\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">&#8220;Don&#8217;t think, just dance.&#8221; &#8211; Matt Grayson \/ Our Media<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>Perhaps due to the fact it can accommodate slightly larger tyres and makes more concessions to comfort, Jackson opts for Cannondale\u2019s all-rounder <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/news\/2023-cannondale-supersix-evo\">SuperSix Evo<\/a> (with the flagship Lab71 carbon layup) rather than its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/buyers-guides\/best-aero-road-bike\">aero road bike<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/reviews\/bikes\/road-bikes\/cannondale-systemsix-hi-mod-etap-axs-review\">SystemSix<\/a>.<\/p><p>Expecting a fast race, though, Jackson\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/reviews\/components\/groupsets\/groupset-road\/shimano-dura-ace-di2-r9200-review\">Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 R9200 groupset<\/a> was set up with 54\/40t FSA chainrings, mounted to an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/news\/fsa-launches-aggressively-priced-power-meters-in-conjunction-with-power2max\">FSA PowerBox power meter<\/a> spider, with FSA carbon cranks.<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2400\" height=\"1600\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/04\/Allison-Jacksons-2024-Paris-Roubaix-custom-painted-Cannondale-SuperSix-EVO-Lab71_002.jpg\" alt=\"Allison Jackson\u2019s 2024 Paris-Roubaix custom-painted Cannondale SuperSix EVO Lab71\" class=\"wp-image-826034\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Jackson&#8217;s EF Education-Cannondale team uses FSA PowerBox cranksets. &#8211; Matt Grayson \/ Our Media<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>It was wrapped with Prologo\u2019s new handlebar tape featuring its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advertising-feature\/prologo-cpc-gloves\">CPC (Connect \u2013 Power \u2013 Control)<\/a> technology.<\/p><p>This uses what Prologo says is a \u201c3D-printed polymer nanostructure\u201d to enhance its grip, meaning riders don\u2019t need to hold the bars as tightly (thus, it claims, reducing fatigue).<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1793\" height=\"1195\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/04\/Allison-Jacksons-2024-Paris-Roubaix-custom-painted-Cannondale-SuperSix-EVO-Lab71_004-edited.jpg\" alt=\"Allison Jackson\u2019s 2024 Paris-Roubaix custom-painted Cannondale SuperSix EVO Lab71\" class=\"wp-image-826124\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Jackson uses a Nago R4 PAS 147 saddle.<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>Jackson&#8217;s saddle also comes from the Prologo stable, with the Canadian champion picking the Nago R4 PAS 147.<\/p><p>Jackson used Wahoo Speedplay Aero pedals.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-daniek-hengeveld-s-scott-foil-rc\">Daniek Hengeveld\u2019s Scott Foil RC<\/h2><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2400\" height=\"1600\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/04\/Daniek-Hengevelds-2024-Paris-Roubaix-Scott-Foil-RC_001.jpg\" alt=\"Daniek Hengeveld\u2019s 2024 Paris-Roubaix Scott Foil RC\" class=\"wp-image-826046\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Daniek Hengeveld\u2019s Scott Foil RC saw only a few changes to make it fit for Roubaix. &#8211; Matt Grayson \/ Our Media<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>Team dsm-firmenich PostNL all took to the cobbles aboard the recently updated <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/reviews\/bikes\/road-bikes\/2023-scott-foil-rc-pro\">Scott Foil RC<\/a>.<\/p><p>A full-fat aero road bike if ever there was one, the only concession Daniek Hengeveld made for the rigours of Roubaix was the inclusion of Scott\u2019s comfort-enhancing seatpost and wider tyres.<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2400\" height=\"1600\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/04\/Daniek-Hengevelds-2024-Paris-Roubaix-Scott-Foil-RC_002.jpg\" alt=\"Daniek Hengeveld\u2019s 2024 Paris-Roubaix Scott Foil RC\" class=\"wp-image-826047\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Hengeveld used 54\/40t chainrings. &#8211; The tread pattern and construction certainly looks similar, but Pirelli hasn\u2019t offered any official details yet, so we\u2019ll have to wait and see.<\/p><p>Like Balsamo, Pedersen used Bontrager\u2019s Aeolus Pro 49V wheelset and Time XPro 10 pedals.<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1816\" height=\"1210\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/04\/Mads-Pedersens-2024-Paris-Roubaix-Trek-Madone-SLR_002.jpg\" alt=\"Mads Pedersen's 2024 Paris-Roubaix Trek Madone SLR\" class=\"wp-image-826067\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Pedersen used a 56t 1x chainring, giving him an enormous top gear. &#8211; SRAM<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>Finishing in third place, Pedersen\u2019s drivetrain consisted of a SRAM Red eTap AXS groupset with a large 56t 1x chainring and a 10-33t cassette.<\/p><p>This offered the Danish powerhouse a slightly larger top gear than a 61x11t.<\/p><p>Did Pedersen ever use that top gear during the race?
