{"id":62243,"date":"2024-04-18T10:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-04-18T08:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/d1adb290-ec5e-4c25-9a68-1a6277cf4060"},"modified":"2024-04-18T10:59:42","modified_gmt":"2024-04-18T08:59:42","slug":"new-time-xpro-12-sl-is-lightest-road-pedal-on-the-market","status":"publish","type":"rss_feed","link":"https:\/\/c01.purpledshub.com\/cyclingplus\/rss_feed\/new-time-xpro-12-sl-is-lightest-road-pedal-on-the-market\/","title":{"rendered":"New Time XPro 12 SL is &#8220;lightest road pedal on the market&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"rssexcerpt\">French pedal brand refreshes its line-up across road, gravel and MTB <\/p><p class=\"rssauthor\">By Warren Rossiter\n      <\/p><p class=\"rssbyline\">Published: Thursday, 18 April 2024 at 08:00 AM<\/p><hr class=\"no-tts wp-block-separator\"\/><?xml version=\"1.0\" encoding=\"UTF-8\" standalone=\"yes\"?>\n<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC \"-\/\/W3C\/\/DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional\/\/EN\" \"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/REC-html40\/loose.dtd\">\n<html><body><p>Time has launched a new lightweight pedal, the XPro 12 SL, alongside a remodelling of its pedal range.<\/p><p>The XPro 12 SL is claimed to be the lightest road pedal on the market today and comes with a very high price tag of \u00a3440 \/ $440 \/ \u20ac490.<br\/><br\/>Elsewhere, the brand has consolidated its complete pedal line-up across road, gravel and MTB to make it easier to understand (and in some cases, cheaper).<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-new-xpro-12-sl-flagship-road-pedal\">New XPro 12 SL flagship road pedal<\/h2><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The XPro 12 SL is said to be the lightest road pedal around. &#8211; Time<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>Time claims the XPro 12 SL pedals weigh 87g each (or 259g a pair with cleats), making them the lightest road pedals on the market.<\/p><p>The weight has been saved through premium specifications, including ceramic bearings, hollow titanium axles and a carbon-injected composite body with inset stainless steel plates.<\/p><p>The XPro 12 SL has a new three-setting spring tension adjuster for the carbon spring mechanism, and three options on axle length to suit your fit data.\u00a0<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1800\" height=\"1200\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/04\/Time_x10_woz_3.jpeg\" alt=\"Time X10 pedals\" class=\"wp-image-827747\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The body of our sample XPro 10 (which is the same profile as the XPro 12 SL and XPro 12) is slender. &#8211; Warren Rossiter \/ Our Media<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>The narrowest of the three axle lengths is also claimed to benefit riders looking to get the narrowest Q-factor, which in turn should reduce frontal area.<\/p><p>The XPro 12 SL\u2019s design also has a fairing under the pedal body, to provide an aero advantage.\u00a0<\/p><p>The platform design is larger at a claimed 725mm2, compared to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/reviews\/components\/pedals\/time-xpresso-2-pedals-review\">original Xpresso<\/a>&#8216;s 700mm2.\u00a0<\/p><p>The XPro 12 SL design carries a rider weight limit of 90kg.\u00a0<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1800\" height=\"1200\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/04\/Time_x10_woz_2_1.jpeg\" alt=\"Time X10 pedals\" class=\"wp-image-827743\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The underside has a fairing designed to improve aerodynamics. &#8211; Warren Rossiter \/ Our Media<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>Underpinning the flagship pedal is the XPro 12, which features steel bearings and a \u2018standard\u2019 titanium axle. The concessions still make for a remarkably light pedal at a claimed 273g a pair, including cleats (94g per pedal)\u00a0<\/p><p>These cost less at \u00a3160 \/ $160 \/ \u20ac180.<\/p><p>The start of the XPro range comes in the form of the XPro 10, which comes with steel bearings and a steel axle. This has a total claimed system weight of 310g (113g per pedal).\u00a0<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1800\" height=\"1286\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/04\/Time_x10_pedal_actual_weight_woz.jpeg\" alt=\"Time X10 pedal actual weight\" class=\"wp-image-827740\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The cleats and bolts add a further 88g, totalling 315g. &#8211; Warren Rossiter \/ Our Media<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>On the scales, our XPro 10 pedals come in at 227g (113.5g apiece), plus 88g for the cleats and bolts (315g system weight).<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-xpresso-line-refresh\">Xpresso line refresh<\/h2><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1800\" height=\"1200\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/04\/XPRESSO-No-6.jpeg\" alt=\"Time Xpresso No 6\" class=\"wp-image-827749\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The Xpresso line is down to two models \u2013 the first is the Xpresso 6. &#8211; Time<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>Time\u2019s entry-level Xpresso road pedals are now available in two models: the Xpresso 6 sees a glass-injected composite body with steel contact plates, while the Xpresso 4 has a reinforced composite body.\u00a0<\/p><p>These don\u2019t come with spring-tension adjustment, but use the same cleats as the XPro pedals \u2013 you can opt for Time\u2019s iClic \u2018free-float\u2019 cleats to take advantage of the \uff0b\/- 5 degrees of angular float and \uff0b\/- 1.25mm of lateral float, or use Time\u2019s fixed (zero float) iClic cleats.\u00a0<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1800\" height=\"1200\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/04\/XPRESSO-No-4.jpeg\" alt=\"Time Xpresso No 4\" class=\"wp-image-827748\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The other pedal in the range is the Xpresso 4. &#8211; Time<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>Both weigh in at a claimed 315g system weight, though. The Xpresso 6\u2019s steel inserts are claimed to bring better protection from wear.<\/p><p>The Xpresso 6 is priced at $95 \/ \u20ac105 \/ \u00a395, with the Xpresso 4 now priced lower than before, at $65 \/ \u20ac70 \/ \u00a365 (down from $90 \/ \u20ac100 \/ \u00a375).<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-new-speciale-12-mtb-pedals\">New Speciale 12 MTB pedals<\/h2><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1800\" height=\"1200\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/04\/Speciale-No-12-Large.jpeg\" alt=\"Time Speciale No 12 - Large\" class=\"wp-image-827735\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The Speciale pedals are available in two sizes \u2013 the large is pictured here. &#8211; Time<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>The new Speciale 12 is aimed at professional-level enduro, downhill and trail riders.\u00a0<\/p><p>It features an alloy anodised body for resilience against rock strikes and a titanium axle.\u00a0<\/p><p>It\u2019s now available in two sizes: \u2018large\u2019 (with a 69x90mm platform) ostensibly for downhill and enduro use, and \u2018small\u2019 (64x80mm), which is said to be suitable for enduro riding as well as trail.\u00a0<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1800\" height=\"1200\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/04\/Speciale-No-12-Small.jpeg\" alt=\"Time Speciale No 12 - Small\" class=\"wp-image-827736\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">There&#8217;s also a small size. &#8211; Time<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>The pedal\u2019s spring tension is adjustable via a brass screw on the pedal body and based around Time\u2019s long-standing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/reviews\/components\/pedals\/time-atac-xc4-review\">twin-bar ATAC <\/a>design \u2013 well-regarded for its easy entry and mud-clearing properties.\u00a0<\/p><p>The Speciale 12 is priced at $350 \/ \u20ac390 \/ \u00a3350 and weighs in at a claimed 180g per pedal (405g system weight) in a size large. The system is said to weigh 395g in the smaller size.<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1800\" height=\"1200\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/04\/Speciale-No-10-Large-Purple.jpeg\" alt=\"Time Speciale No 10 - Large - Purple\" class=\"wp-image-827729\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The Speciale 10 comes in a few snazzy colours. &#8211; Time<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>Below this, the Speciale 10 shares a similar design with the same two size options. This cheaper option ($180 \/ \u20ac200 \/ \u00a3180) features a hollow steel axle and is available in new anodised colour options: purple, &#8216;Tangerine&#8217;, \u2018Raw\u2019 and dark grey.\u00a0<\/p><p>The Speciale 10 pedals weigh in at a claimed 202g each (450g including cleats) for a size large, and 197g (440g system) for a size small.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-atac-range-consolidation\">ATAC range consolidation<\/h2><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1800\" height=\"1200\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/04\/ATAC-XC-No-12.jpeg\" alt=\"Time ATAC XC No 12\" class=\"wp-image-827727\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The ATAC XC12 pedal has a titanium axle. &#8211; Time<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>The ATAC range is reduced from five models to three, with an updated XC12 at the top of the range.\u00a0<\/p><p>This is Time\u2019s lightest off-road offering aimed at XC, gravel and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/fitness-and-training\/cyclocross-racing\">cyclocross racing<\/a> at the highest level, featuring a hollow oversized titanium axle and carbon-injected composite body.\u00a0<\/p><p>The ATAC pedals&#8217; wide angle of float and easy entry are said to make them popular with riders prone to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/fitness-and-training\/cycling-knee-pain-the-problem-areas\">knee pain issues<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1800\" height=\"1200\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/04\/ATAC-XC-No-6.jpeg\" alt=\"Time ATAC XC No 6\" class=\"wp-image-827725\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The ATAC XC6 (pictured here) is the cheapest of the ATAC range. &#8211; Time<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>The XC12s weigh in at a claimed 120g each, with a 285g total system weight. They are priced at $295 \/ \u20ac330 \/ \u00a3295.<\/p><p>The XC12s are joined by the XC10s ($150 \/ \u20ac165 \/ \u00a3150), which weigh in at 325g total, and the XC6s at 345g total ($90 \/ \u20ac100 \/ \u00a390).<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-mx-series\">MX series<\/h2><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1800\" height=\"1200\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/04\/ATAC-MX-No-6.jpeg\" alt=\"Time ATAC MX No 6\" class=\"wp-image-827723\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The MX6 is the highest of the two MX pedal offerings. &#8211; Time<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>The MX is Time\u2019s all-rounder <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/buyers-guides\/best-mountain-bike-pedals\">mountain bike pedal<\/a> with a more compact platform than the Speciale, made from lightweight injected glass-fibre composite.\u00a0<\/p><p>The range is now down to two models from three, with a price reduction for the MX4 ($65 \/ \u20ac70 \/ \u00a365 from $90 \/ \u20ac100 \/ \u00a375 \u2013 the old MX2 entry-level pedal\u2019s pricing).<\/p><p>They share the same twin-bar ATAC design for free movement and mud clearance, but with the addition of a more rugged platform, according to Time.<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1800\" height=\"1200\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/04\/ATAC-MX-No-4.jpeg\" alt=\"Time ATAC MX No 4\" class=\"wp-image-827722\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The MX4 underpins the two, with a solid steel axle. &#8211; Time<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>The range-topping MX6 comes with a hollow steel axle and composite body, with a claimed system weight of 425g (190g per pedal), priced at $95 \/ \u20ac105 \/ \u00a395.\u00a0<\/p><p>The MX4 shares the same composite body and ATAC retention system, but with a solid steel axle. This is priced at $65 \/ \u20ac70 \/ \u00a365 and carries a claimed system weight of 430g, or 192g per pedal.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-urban-link\">Urban Link<\/h2><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1800\" height=\"1200\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/04\/LINK.jpeg\" alt=\"Time Link pedal\" class=\"wp-image-827728\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The Link is unchanged, save for a small price decrease. &#8211; Time<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>Time&#8217;s final pedal in its line-up is the urban-focused Link.\u00a0<\/p><p>This pedal uses a single-sided version of the twin-bar ATAC design with a sculpted shoe-holding platform on the other side.\u00a0<\/p><p>The Link weighs in at a claimed 390g for the system and retails for $65 \/ \u20ac70 \/ \u00a365.
