{"id":62251,"date":"2024-04-18T16:23:23","date_gmt":"2024-04-18T14:23:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/d3e14745-5f8f-479f-93eb-6c23e0a11965"},"modified":"2024-04-18T16:59:40","modified_gmt":"2024-04-18T14:59:40","slug":"dt-swiss-announces-new-ratchet-deg-freehubs-with-lowest-engagement-angle-ever","status":"publish","type":"rss_feed","link":"https:\/\/c01.purpledshub.com\/cyclingplus\/rss_feed\/dt-swiss-announces-new-ratchet-deg-freehubs-with-lowest-engagement-angle-ever\/","title":{"rendered":"DT Swiss announces new Ratchet DEG freehubs with lowest engagement angle ever\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"rssexcerpt\">The brand is also launching a limited-edition pair of Red 240 hubs <\/p><p class=\"rssauthor\">By Oscar Huckle\n      <\/p><p class=\"rssbyline\">Published: Thursday, 18 April 2024 at 14:23 PM<\/p><hr class=\"no-tts wp-block-separator\"\/><?xml version=\"1.0\" encoding=\"UTF-8\" standalone=\"yes\"?>\n<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC \"-\/\/W3C\/\/DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional\/\/EN\" \"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/REC-html40\/loose.dtd\">\n<html><body><p>DT Swiss has announced its new Ratchet DEG freehub, which will appear on the brand\u2019s 240 mountain bike wheels.\u00a0<\/p><p>When designing the Ratchet DEG, DT Swiss says it wanted to deliver the smallest angle of engagement possible by using new 90-tooth steel ratchets.\u00a0<\/p><p>To put that into context, the ratchet in the brand\u2019s 240 Ratchet EXP <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/buyers-guides\/freehubs\/\">freehubs<\/a> have 36 teeth, although a 54T Star Ratchet Upgrade Kit is available separately.\u00a0<\/p><p>The new Ratchet DEG freehub sits alongside the brand\u2019s revered Ratchet EXP (which is lighter) and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/news\/dt-swiss-emtb-hubs\/\">Ratchet EXP OS<\/a> eMTB freehub, as well as its cheaper Ratchet and Ratchet LN options.\u00a0<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-4-degrees-of-engagement\">4 degrees of engagement\u00a0<\/h2><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The internals of the Ratchet DEG system. &#8211; DT Swiss<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>The 90t ratchets translate to a 4-degree engagement angle, the smallest engagement angle in any wheel DT Swiss has ever offered.\u00a0<\/p><p>DT Swiss says the \u201csimultaneous full engagement of the ratchets provides a larger contact patch than pawl hubs and thus a more balanced load distribution, resulting in higher reliability\u201d. This will be particularly useful when you need to accelerate quickly when riding up a technical climb, for example.\u00a0<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1280\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/04\/DTSwiss_240_Classic_Ratchet_DEG_Hub_Tech_Hub_Ratchets_001_1920px.jpg\" alt=\"DT Swiss Ratchet DEG 240 hubs \" class=\"wp-image-828222\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The system uses two enlarged ratchets with 90 teeth. &#8211; DT Swiss<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>To achieve this result, DT Swiss says it had to adapt the driveside of the hub. The brand has adapted the hub\u2019s profile and removed the threaded ring you previously needed to remove to access the hub bearings.\u00a0<\/p><p>This will be good news for mechanics, because you no longer need to invest in a specific tool to remove this threaded ring.\u00a0<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-pricing\">Pricing<\/h2><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1277\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/04\/DTSwiss_240_Classic_Ratchet_DEG_Hub_Action_002_1920px.jpg\" alt=\"DT Swiss Ratchet DEG 240 hubs \" class=\"wp-image-828216\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The technology is limited to the 240 hubs for now. &#8211; DT Swiss<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>The hubs will be available in a Classic Edition, as well as a Limited Red Edition (of which there are fittingly 240 available).\u00a0<\/p><p>The Classic Edition is available in 12x148mm and 12x157mm Boost, with your choice of Shimano MicroSpline or SRAM XD freehub, and in six-bolt disc only. You can pick between 28 and 32 spoke holes. A rear hub will retail for \u00a3354.99 \/ $499.90 \/ \u20ac376.90 \/ AU$599.\u00a0<\/p><p>The Limited Red Edition is only available in 15&#215;110 front and 12x148mm axles in 32h and SRAM XD freehub only.
