But the linkage now features a Flip Link flip chip, enabling you to run the bike with a mullet wheel size for the first time.<\/p><p>For consumers, the Tues is only available in two spec levels built around a carbon fibre frameset. Prices start at \u00a33,999 \/ $3,990 \/ \u20ac3,999 for the Core 2, while the top-of-the-range Core 4 is priced at \u00a35,999 \/ $5,990 \/ \u20ac5,999.<\/p><p>For racing fans, we&#8217;re in Fort William ahead of this weekend&#8217;s season-opening DH World Cup, so have taken a closer look at YT MOB rider Oisin O\u2019Callaghan\u2019s new YT Tues, custom-built with a TRP drivetrain.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-carbon-only-construction\">Carbon-only construction<\/h2><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The new YT Tues is only available with a carbon frame. This is YT MOB rider Oisin O\u2019Callaghan\u2019s custom-built bike. &#8211; Max Wilman \/ Our Media<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>The first thing that stands out from the previous Tues is the new integrated fork bump-stops at the top of the down tube.<\/p><p>We\u2019ve seen many manufacturers include this feature on their latest <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/buyers-guides\/best-downhill-mountain-bikes\">downhill bikes<\/a>, including but not limited to the latest <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/news\/saracen-myst-2024\">Saracen Myst<\/a>.<\/p><p>The design protects your frame and stanchions when over-rotating the handlebar.<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1600\" height=\"1067\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/05\/Oisin-O-Callaghan-YT-TUES_-3.jpg\" alt=\"Oisin O'Callaghan's YT TUES downhill bike.\" class=\"wp-image-861197\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">There are now integrated fork bump-stops. &#8211; Max Wilman \/ Our Media<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>The bike\u2019s frame is made from YT\u2019s Ultra Modulus Carbon Fibre.\u00a0<\/p><p>Unlike the previous generation of the Tues, there is no aluminium option. We asked YT if there was one in the pipeline, but we\u2019ve yet to hear back.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-flip-link-linkage-for-mullet-compatibility\">Flip Link linkage for mullet compatibility<\/h2><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1600\" height=\"1067\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/05\/Oisin-O-Callaghan-YT-TUES_-2.jpg\" alt=\"Oisin O'Callaghan's YT TUES downhill bike close up of flip chip.\" class=\"wp-image-861196\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The bike has gained a flip chip so you can run a mullet-wheel setup. &#8211; Max Wilman \/ Our Media<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>The bike uses the V4L suspension system, which YT says provides sensitivity off the top, with good mid-stroke support and plenty of end-stroke progressivity.<\/p><p>Built into the linkage is YT&#8217;s new party piece, the Flip Link <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/buyers-guides\/flip-chips\">flip chip<\/a>, which enables riders to swap between a full 29in wheel or 29in front and 27.5in rear <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/features\/what-is-faster-mullet-bike-29er\">mullet-wheel setup<\/a>.<\/p><p>Previously, you had to swap out parts of the linkage to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/workshop\/how-to-adjust-mountain-bike-geometry\">adjust the bike\u2019s geometry<\/a> for a mixed setup, but now the Flip Link enables you to switch between 29in and 27.5in wheels.\u00a0<\/p><p>While this is not new tech, it will be a welcome feature for those looking for a mullet downhill bike and wanting to capitalise on YT\u2019s reputation for offering value for money.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-sram-udh-and-more-practical-tweaks\">SRAM UDH and more practical tweaks<\/h2><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1600\" height=\"1067\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/05\/Oisin-O-Callaghan-YT-TUES_-4.jpg\" alt=\"Oisin O'Callaghan's YT TUES downhill bike close up of TRP Evo rear derailleur.\" class=\"wp-image-861195\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The fourth-generation bike has also adopted SRAM&#8217;s UDH. &#8211; Max Wilman \/ Our Media<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>YT has also updated the rear dropout to use <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/workshop\/sram-udh\">SRAM\u2019s Universal Derailleur Hanger<\/a> (UDH). This should make finding spares at the park or track a lot easier.<\/p><p>Replaceable shock hardware inserts are now used too, which YT says will prevent you having to sacrifice the frame if you strip the bolt threads.<\/p><p>In another win for home mechanics, YT has replaced the press-fit bottom bracket with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/buyers-guides\/the-complete-guide-to-bottom-bracket-standards\">threaded bottom bracket<\/a> \u2013 hopefully making for less creaky cranking and easier servicing.<\/p><p>A large frame protector on the underside of the down tube provides cover from rock strikes.\u00a0<\/p><p>The driveside chainstay and seatstay feature wrap-around protectors to minimise chain-slapping noise.\u00a0<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-yt-tues-geometry\">YT Tues geometry<\/h2><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1600\" height=\"1067\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/05\/Oisin-O-Callaghan-YT-TUES_.jpg\" alt=\"Oisin O'Callaghan's YT TUES downhill bike photographed in mossy woodland.\" class=\"wp-image-861203\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The Flip Link means you can adjust the head angle. &#8211; Max Wilman \/ Our Media<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>The new YT Tues will be available in five sizes, ranging from S to XXL, with all bikes being mullet-compatible.<\/p><p>Reach measurements increase in 20mm increments, with the size S measuring 430mm and the XXL topping out at 510mm \u2013 15mm longer than the previous model.<\/p><p>The Flip Link flip chip adds head-angle adjustability, giving you the choice of 63.2 degrees or 63.5 degrees.<\/p><p>This also gives 5mm of BB height adjustment, though these can\u2019t be tuned independently.<\/p><p>YT has given the bike size-specific chainstay lengths as well as a separate adjustable long\/short flip chip that brings 5mm of adjustment to the rear end.<\/p><p>S to L frames feature 438mm or 443mm chainstays in the MX position and 440mm or 445mm in the 29in position.<\/p><p>The XL to XXL models are 10mm longer at 448mm or 453mm, and 450mm or 455mm.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Oisin O\u2019Callaghan&#8217;s custom YT Tues Core 4<\/h2><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1600\" height=\"1067\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/05\/Oisin-O-Callaghan-YT-TUES_-10.jpg\" alt=\"Close-up of drivetrain on Oisin O'Callaghan's YT Tues Core 4.\" class=\"wp-image-861214\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">O&#8217;Callaghan&#8217;s drivetrain uses a rear derailleur and cranks from TRP. &#8211; Max Wilman \/ Our Media<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>YT-sponsored riders have the option of custom spec on their downhill bikes.<\/p><p>O\u2019Callaghan has decided to spec Fox\u2019s gold 50th-anniversary Float 40 Factory <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/buyers-guides\/best-mountain-bike-suspension-forks\">suspension fork<\/a> on his YT Tues Core 4 instead of the standard orange fork.\u00a0<\/p><p>The Irish rider runs his fork with 94psi and the DHX2 Factory <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/buyers-guides\/best-mountain-bike-rear-shocks\">rear shock<\/a> with a 475lb coil.<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1600\" height=\"1067\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/05\/Oisin-O-Callaghan-YT-TUES_-8.jpg\" alt=\"Close up of TRP brake on Oisin O'Callaghan's YT TUES downhill bike.\" class=\"wp-image-861201\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">O&#8217;Callaghan is running TRP brakes. &#8211; Max Wilman \/ Our Media<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>He also rides with TRP\u2019s DH-R EVO brakes matched to 223mm rotors.<\/p><p>His rear derailleur of choice is TRP\u2019s EVO 7, which is paired with Ochain\u2019s latest unadjustable anti-pedal-kickback chainring.
