While it misses out on some of the bells and whistles of its non-assisted siblings, and its clearance is a smidge tighter at 38mm, there are plenty of interesting details afoot, particularly in the frame design.\u00a0<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-goodbye-mahle-hello-tq\">Goodbye Mahle, hello TQ\u00a0<\/h2><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The bikes are built around a TQ HPR50 motor. &#8211; Oscar Huckle \/ Our Media<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>BMC used Mahle\u2019s X20 hub-based motor on its outgoing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/reviews\/bikes\/electric-bikes\/bmc-roadmachine-amp-one-review\">Roadmachine AMP<\/a>, but the brand says it has made the switch to TQ because the motors are quieter.\u00a0<\/p><p>The Roadmachine AMP uses the TQ HPR50 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/buyers-guides\/electric-bike-motors\">electric bike motor<\/a>, which provides 50Nm of torque and is claimed to be one of the lightest, quietest and most compact systems on the market.\u00a0<\/p><p>The lower torque is also claimed to be more natural to ride than more powerful motors. We\u2019ve found that to be the case with the TQ-equipped bikes we\u2019ve reviewed so far, including the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/reviews\/bikes\/mountain-bikes\/full-suspension-mountain-bikes\/trek-fuel-exe-9-9-xx1-axs-first-ride-review\">Trek Fuel EXe<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/reviews\/bikes\/electric-bikes\/scott-lumen-eride-910-review\">Scott Lumen eRIDE<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1707\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/05\/BR_9094-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"TQ HPR50 motor on BMC Roadmachine 01 AMP Two \" class=\"wp-image-862054\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">You cycle through the modes using the top tube display. &#8211; Oscar Huckle \/ Our Media<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>A display is integrated into the top tube, where you can cycle through the various motor modes and monitor battery life.\u00a0<\/p><p>A neat feature on the Roadmachine 01 AMP is there aren\u2019t any ancillary buttons awkwardly integrated into the shifter, as there are on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/reviews\/bikes\/electric-bikes\/trek-domane-slr-6-review\">Trek Domane+<\/a> for example. This gives the cockpit area a much cleaner appearance.\u00a0<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1707\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/05\/BR_9088-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"TQ HPR50 motor on BMC Roadmachine 01 AMP Two \" class=\"wp-image-862050\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">You need to use conventional bottle cages instead because the battery takes up the down tube space. &#8211; Oscar Huckle \/ Our Media<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>The new electric road bike\u2019s battery is in its down tube. This means you miss out on the down tube storage and Aerocore bottle cages found on its non-electric equivalents.\u00a0<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-neat-frame-details-nbsp-nbsp\">Neat frame details\u00a0\u00a0<\/h2><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1707\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/05\/BR_9100-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"BMC Roadmachine 01 AMP Two \" class=\"wp-image-862066\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The kinked seatstays are reminiscent of the brand&#8217;s Granfondo GF01, which predates the Roadmachine. &#8211; Oscar Huckle \/ Our Media<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>The Roadmachine 01 AMP frame uses BMC\u2019s top-flight Premium Carbon, with the rear end heavily revised to increase compliance.\u00a0<\/p><p>The Stealth Dropouts hide the thru-axle insert in a captive nut, which is bonded in the dropout. The design looks seriously clean and is claimed to improve aerodynamics.\u00a0<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1707\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/05\/BR_9099-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"Stealth Dropouts on BMC Roadmachine 01 AMP Two \" class=\"wp-image-862065\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Those dropouts look very clean. &#8211; Oscar Huckle \/ Our Media<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>The tyre clearance on the Roadmachine AMP is slightly less generous than the non-assisted Roadmachine\u2019s at 38mm. According to BMC, this is because of shifting design trends between the non-assisted and electric variants&#8217; development timelines.\u00a0<\/p><p>The electric Roadmachine has the same D-shaped carbon seatpost as the non-assisted version. The same post is found on the brand\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/reviews\/bikes\/gravel-bikes\/bmc-urs-one-review\">URS<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/reviews\/bikes\/gravel-bikes\/bmc-kaius-01-one-review\">Kaius<\/a> gravel bikes. It\u2019s claimed to weigh a scant 179g.\u00a0<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1707\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/05\/BR_9361-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"Integrated rear light on BMC Roadmachine \" class=\"wp-image-862092\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The rear light is diminutive in profile. &#8211; Oscar Huckle \/ Our Media<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>Tucked behind the seatpost is a removable 20-lumen StVZO USB-chargeable rear light. The light fits snugly into its own recess and has a claimed 90-minute run time.\u00a0<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1707\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/05\/BR_9090-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"Integrated front end on BMC Roadmachine 01 AMP Two \" class=\"wp-image-862052\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The front end uses a separate bar and stem configuration. &#8211; Oscar Huckle \/ Our Media<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>The front end integrates the bike\u2019s hydraulic hoses and Di2 wires. These run alongside the proprietary fork with flat steerer faces before passing through the upper headset bearing.\u00a0<\/p><p>On this particular bike, you get the ICS 2 stem with an aluminium handlebar rather than the fancy ICS Carbon Evo integrated cockpit found on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/reviews\/bikes\/road-bikes\/bmc-roadmachine-01-two-review\">Roadmachine 01 Two<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-a-mid-tier-spec-for-a-high-price-nbsp\">A mid-tier spec for a high price\u00a0<\/h2><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1707\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/05\/BR_9113-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"BMC Roadmachine 01 AMP Two \" class=\"wp-image-862077\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">This Roadmachine is second from the top in the range. &#8211; Oscar Huckle \/ Our Media<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>The Roadmachine 01 AMP Two is one of four bikes in the Roadmachine 01 AMP range, retailing for a not-insubstantial \u20ac7,999 \/ $7,999.\u00a0<\/p><p>The Roadmachine 01 AMP One above it will set you back \u20ac8,999 \/ $8,999 and steps up to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/reviews\/components\/groupsets\/groupset-road\/shimano-ultegra-r8170-di2-review\">Shimano Ultegra Di2 R8170<\/a> groupset. A gravel-flavoured BMC Roadmachine 01 AMP X with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/reviews\/components\/groupsets\/sram-force-axs-2023-review\">SRAM Force AXS<\/a> has the same price.\u00a0<\/p><p>Finally, there\u2019s the Roadmachine 01 AMP Three, which also retails for\u00a0 \u20ac7,999 \/ $7,999, but swaps to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/reviews\/components\/groupsets\/groupset-road\/shimano-105-di2-r7100-groupset\">Shimano 105 Di2 groupset<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1707\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/05\/BR_9097-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"Shimano GRX Di2 groupset on BMC Roadmachine 01 AMP Two \" class=\"wp-image-862061\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">You get a GRX Di2 groupset. &#8211; Oscar Huckle \/ Our Media<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>The Roadmachine 01 AMP Two is specced with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/reviews\/components\/groupsets\/groupset-road\/shimano-grx-di2-review\">Shimano GRX Di2 RX-815<\/a> groupset. BMC pairs a relatively wide-ranging 11-34t cassette with a Rotor eVegast 48\/31t crankset.\u00a0<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1707\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/05\/BR_9096-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"Pirelli Cinturato Velo tyre \" class=\"wp-image-862058\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The Pirelli Cinturato Velo is a resilient tyre choice. &#8211; Oscar Huckle \/ Our Media<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>The rolling stock comes in the form of BMC\u2019s own CRD-400 SL wheels. The 40mm-deep carbon rims sport an on-trend 23mm internal <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/buyers-guides\/rim-width-explained-for-road-bikes-mountain-bikes-and-gravel-bikes\">rim width<\/a>. BMC claims the front wheel weighs 710g and the rear 867g.\u00a0<\/p><p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/reviews\/components\/tyres\/road-bike-tyres\/pirelli-cinturato-velo-tyre-review\">Pirelli Cinturato Velo TLR tyres<\/a> are set up tubeless on the rims.
