Is this &#8211; Liam Cahill \/ Our Media<\/figcaption><\/figure><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-marginal-aero-gains\">Marginal aero gains<\/h2><p>We\u2019ve seen a number of bike brands launching seemingly small updates to their top-tier race machines and the focus is almost always directed to the bike\u2019s frontal profile.<\/p><p>Fans of Specialized, for example, may have felt a little underwhelmed at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/news\/specialized-tarmac-sl8-leak\">first sight of the S-Works Tarmac SL8<\/a>, ahead of last year&#8217;s World Championships in Glasgow. <\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1707\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/06\/2025-Pinarello-Dogma-6-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"2025 Pinarello Dogma\" class=\"wp-image-865774\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">We&#8217;d expect the new bike to be officially launched ahead of the Tour de France. &#8211; Liam Cahill \/ Our Media<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>The SL8&#8217;s redesign focused mainly on a new head tube \u2013 the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/news\/specialized-tarmac-sl8-launches\">now-infamous &#8216;Speed Sniffer&#8217;<\/a> \u2013 and there&#8217;s good reason for brands to be narrowing their focus onto this area of the bike.<\/p><p>The UCI\u2019s relaxation of its 3:1 depth-to-width ratio rule has resulted in deeper and thinner tubes on some of the latest bikes, such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/news\/scott-launches-new-foil-rc-bike\">Scott\u2019s Foil RC<\/a>.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-is-it-lighter\">Is it lighter?<\/h2><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1707\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/06\/2025-Pinarello-Dogma-3-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"2025 Pinarello Dogma\" class=\"wp-image-865771\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The down tube also appears to be marginally thinner. The bottle cages are still recessed. &#8211; Liam Cahill \/ Our Media<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>So it seems that Pinarello is chasing small drag reductions from the front end, but other changes may be designed with weight saving in mind.<\/p><p>The down tube, for example, appears to be slightly narrower in places, potentially reducing the amount of material required and possibly lowering the weight.<\/p><p>What is clear is that there is still a recessed area for the bottle and cage.
