{"id":65131,"date":"2024-06-04T18:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-06-04T16:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/299c8bb2-7500-4e97-83aa-cf2410abdab5"},"modified":"2024-06-04T18:25:26","modified_gmt":"2024-06-04T16:25:26","slug":"new-ridley-kanzo-fast-spotted-at-unbound-is-faster-with-apidura-bags-than-without","status":"publish","type":"rss_feed","link":"https:\/\/c01.purpledshub.com\/cyclingplus\/rss_feed\/new-ridley-kanzo-fast-spotted-at-unbound-is-faster-with-apidura-bags-than-without\/","title":{"rendered":"New Ridley Kanzo Fast spotted at Unbound is faster with Apidura bags than without"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"rssexcerpt\">Piotr Havik&#8217;s unreleased Kanzo Fast sports svelte tube shapes and SRAM UDH <\/p><p class=\"rssauthor\">By Oscar Huckle\n      <\/p><p class=\"rssbyline\">Published: Tuesday, 04 June 2024 at 16:00 PM<\/p><hr class=\"no-tts wp-block-separator\"\/><?xml version=\"1.0\" encoding=\"UTF-8\" standalone=\"yes\"?>\n<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC \"-\/\/W3C\/\/DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional\/\/EN\" \"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/REC-html40\/loose.dtd\">\n<html><body><p>Piotr Havik rode to fourth place at the Unbound Gravel 200 aboard what we suspect to be a new Ridley Kanzo Fast fitted with prototype Apidura bags and an eclectic mix of SRAM and Classified components.\u00a0<\/p><p>The bags are said to be more aerodynamic than not running any bags at all, saving a claimed 3-4 watts.\u00a0<\/p><p>Our photographer captured the new bike post-race, and it bore all the muddy accoutrements of the Kansas Flint Hills.\u00a0<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-fast-less-aero-nbsp\">Fast = less aero?\u00a0<\/h2><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The new bike looks as though it was inspired by the brand&#8217;s Falcn all-in-one race bike. &#8211; Sam Andrews \/ Our Media<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>In addition to teammates Annabel Fisher and Toby Perry, Havik was riding this unfamiliar Ridley.\u00a0<\/p><p>Ridley\u2019s flagship gravel bike line-up consists of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/reviews\/bikes\/gravel-bikes\/ridley-kanzo-fast-grx-di2-classified-first-ride-review\">Kanzo Fast<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/reviews\/bikes\/gravel-bikes\/ridley-kanzo-adventure-rival-xplr-review\">Kanzo Adventure<\/a>. We suspect the new frame to be an update of the Kanzo Fast, only it seems to have got, well, less aero \u2013 at least on the face of it.<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1707\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/06\/DSC03954-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"Ridley Kanzo Fast front end \" class=\"wp-image-866254\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">It&#8217;s aero at the front end (and we love Havik&#8217;s taped-on cue sheet). &#8211; Sam Andrews \/ Our Media<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>The tubes look more svelte than the current generation. The fork lacks the aero crown design where it meets the head tube, as well as the nubs that point away from the dropout for an aero advantage.\u00a0<\/p><p>Both the top tube and seat tube have been slimmed down too and the seatstays look as though they join the seat tube further up too.\u00a0<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1707\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/06\/DSC03957-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"SRAM Force AXS rear derailleur and UDH hanger \" class=\"wp-image-866257\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">I spy a SRAM UDH dropout. &#8211; Sam Andrews \/ Our Media<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>Elsewhere, the frame looks to have switched to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/workshop\/sram-udh\">SRAM Universal Derailleur Hanger <\/a>(UDH) dropout, bringing compatibility with SRAM Transmission drivetrains, as well as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/news\/sram-red-xplr-axs-groupset-spotted\">unreleased SRAM Red XPLR AXS groupset<\/a> we spotted at Unbound.\u00a0<\/p><p>As a result of the slimmer tubes, we expect the Kanzo Fast to be lighter, too.\u00a0<\/p><p>Finally, Havik is running a 45mm Vittoria Terreno Zero <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/buyers-guides\/best-gravel-tyres\">gravel bike tyre<\/a> at the rear. That\u2019s\u00a0girthier than the official 42mm tyre clearance of the outgoing Kanzo Fast.\u00a0<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-those-apidura-bags-nbsp\">Those Apidura bags\u00a0<\/h2><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1707\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/06\/DSC03951-1-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"Apidura aero frame and top tube bag for Ridley Kanzo Fast \" class=\"wp-image-866251\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The bags are certainly striking. &#8211; Sam Andrews \/ Our Media<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>Havik is also running unreleased top tube and frame bags from Apidura.\u00a0<\/p><p>Speaking to BikeRadar, Ian Carter, Apidura\u2019s head of brand and marketing, explained these bags are a further development of its aero bags teased at Unbound 2022.\u00a0<\/p><p>Working in collaboration with Ridley, Apidura claims the system, which is designed to work as a pair, saves 3-4 watts over a \u2018naked\u2019 bike. This translates to roughly a three-minute time saving on the Unbound 200 course.\u00a0<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1707\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/06\/DSC03953-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"Prototype aero Apidura top tube bag \" class=\"wp-image-866253\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">That top tube bag is for snacks only. &#8211; Sam Andrews \/ Our Media<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>The 0.4-litre top tube pack is designed to continue airflow off the back of the stem, with a low stack height. It\u2019s designed to fit items such as gels, rather than a phone, which the brand says a lot of riders like to store there.\u00a0<\/p><p>The 1.5l frame bag uses Garmin silicone band-style straps to attach to the head tube and fixes to the underside of the top tube via frame mounts. Apidura says this helps the pack hug the frame, minimising airflow disruption.\u00a0<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1707\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/06\/DSC03952-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"Prototype aero Apidura top tube bag \" class=\"wp-image-866252\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Aero is everything. &#8211; Sam Andrews \/ Our Media<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>There\u2019s a stiffening board to the rear of the waterproof frame pack to give it a smooth curvature.<\/p><p>Apidura doesn\u2019t have a firm date for when this product will be released and says these packs came straight to Havik from its factory.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p><p>The bags will initally be sold for Ridley bikes, but Apidura will soon introduce bags that can fit other bikes.\u00a0<\/p><p>Havik also used what appeared to be a new Racing Hydration Vest in the first half of the race. He switched to the current-generation hydration vest for the remainder of the route.\u00a0<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-an-eclectic-build-nbsp\">An eclectic build\u00a0<\/h2><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1707\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/06\/DSC03958-5-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"Classified hub on Ridley Kanzo Fast \" class=\"wp-image-866263\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Havik&#8217;s running a Classified system. &#8211; Sam Andrews \/ Our Media<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>Havik\u2019s bike uses a whole mish-mash of SRAM components, paired with a Classified rear hub. This two-speed internal gear hub takes the place of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/buyers-guides\/front-derailleur\">front derailleur<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p><p>Unlike other riders, such as Tiffany Cromwell and Keegan Swenson, who we spotted riding the new Red XPLR AXS groupset, Havik used previous-generation components.<\/p><p>Havik\u2019s bike has SRAM Red eTap AXS shifters and brake calipers, and steps down to a Force AXS rear derailleur.\u00a0<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1707\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/06\/DSC03956-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"Alugear chainring and SRAM Force crank \" class=\"wp-image-866256\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">One big chainring. &#8211; Sam Andrews \/ Our Media<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>The crankset is particularly interesting \u2013 Havik\u2019s running a previous-generation Force eTap AXS crank with a large Alugear chainring.
