{"id":65412,"date":"2024-06-05T17:15:29","date_gmt":"2024-06-05T15:15:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/96dca31b-7961-48b7-8a60-90c00fab52e8"},"modified":"2024-06-05T17:25:28","modified_gmt":"2024-06-05T15:25:28","slug":"bike-of-the-week-canyons-electric-park-bike-packs-a-prism-shaped-bottle-in-its-top-tube","status":"publish","type":"rss_feed","link":"https:\/\/c01.purpledshub.com\/cyclingplus\/rss_feed\/bike-of-the-week-canyons-electric-park-bike-packs-a-prism-shaped-bottle-in-its-top-tube\/","title":{"rendered":"Bike of the Week | Canyon&#8217;s electric park bike packs a prism-shaped bottle in its top tube"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"rssexcerpt\">We take a closer look at Canyon&#8217;s longest-travel eMTB <\/p><p class=\"rssauthor\">By <\/p><p class=\"rssbyline\">Published: Wednesday, 05 June 2024 at 15:15 PM<\/p><hr class=\"no-tts wp-block-separator\"\/><?xml version=\"1.0\" encoding=\"UTF-8\" standalone=\"yes\"?>\n<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC \"-\/\/W3C\/\/DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional\/\/EN\" \"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/REC-html40\/loose.dtd\">\n<html><body><p>Canyon\u2019s big-hitting Torque:ON electric mountain bike has arrived at BikeRadar HQ, and with 175mm of rear travel, it looks ready to tackle the gnarliest trails our testers can throw it down.<\/p><p>The bike is based on Canyon\u2019s freeride\/bike-park inspired Torque, except the German brand says you can save on the park ticket and ride to the top of the trails.<\/p><p>Shimano\u2019s EP8 motor provides the power and can be connected to a 720Wh or 900Wh battery in the down tube.<\/p><p>We\u2019ve got our hands on the top-of-the-range Torque:ON CF 9, which is priced at \u00a37,149 \/\u00a0\u20ac7,499 and sees shimmers of Kashima-coated <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/buyers-guides\/fox-suspension-fork-guide\">Fox suspension<\/a>, as well as Shimano\u2019s XT groupset.<\/p><p>Before we get some miles on the bike, let&#8217;s take a closer look at the details.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-motocross-inspired-frame\">Motocross-inspired frame<\/h2><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The Torque:ON has 15mm more travel than the Strive:ON electric enduro bike. &#8211; Nick Clark \/ Our Media<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>Canyon has given the Torque:ON a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/buyers-guides\/bike-frame-materials\">carbon fibre frameset<\/a> that takes inspiration from its downhill bike, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/reviews\/bikes\/mountain-bikes\/full-suspension-mountain-bikes\/canyon-sender-cf-7-0-review\">Sender<\/a>.<\/p><p>The brand also says it has looked to the world of motocross when designing the frame, making sure the bike remains agile and capable despite the extra weight of the battery and motor.<\/p><p>This has resulted in a frame rated to Category 5e in the EFBE\u2019s Tri-Test \u2013 an industry body test of the strength and resilience of bike frames \u2013 meaning it can withstand downhill and bike-park trails.<\/p><p>Canyon says this is the highest rating for any <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/buyers-guides\/best-electric-mountain-bikes\">electric mountain bike<\/a> in its line-up.<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1600\" height=\"1067\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/06\/O5A9862.jpg\" alt=\"Canyon Torque:On CF 9 with Shimano EP8 motor\" class=\"wp-image-866392\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">This motor is the EP801 model. &#8211; Nick Clark \/ Our Media<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>At the centre of the bike is a Shimano EP8 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/buyers-guides\/electric-bike-motors\">electric bike motor<\/a>, which provides 85Nm of torque and 250W of continuous power.<\/p><p>Canyon gives the option of a 720Wh or 900Wh motor, touting the first as adding more agility to the bike and the latter as adding miles to your ride.<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1600\" height=\"1067\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/06\/O5A9892.jpg\" alt=\"Canyon Torque:On CF 9 with sump guard\" class=\"wp-image-866413\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The sump guard is rubberised, unlike the one found on the Strive:ON. &#8211; Nick Clark \/ Our Media<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>The battery can be removed, and in keeping with the motocross design principles, there is a sump guard at the bottom that protects the motor and battery port.<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1600\" height=\"1067\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/06\/O5A9875.jpg\" alt=\"Canyon Torque:On CF 9 linkage\" class=\"wp-image-866400\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The Torque:ON CF 9&#8217;s linkage looks heavy-duty. &#8211; Nick Clark \/ Our Media<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>The rear linkage provides 175mm of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/buyers-guides\/how-much-suspension-travel-do-i-need-on-my-mountain-bike\">rear travel<\/a>. There is no <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/buyers-guides\/flip-chips\">flip chip<\/a>, meaning the bike can only be run as a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/features\/what-is-faster-mullet-bike-29er\">mullet setup<\/a>, with a 29in front wheel and a 27.5in rear wheel.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-hydration-station\">Hydration Station<\/h2><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1600\" height=\"1067\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/06\/O5A9866.jpg\" alt=\"Canyon Torque:On CF 9 with Hydration Station\" class=\"wp-image-866395\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The bottle sits within the top tube. &#8211; Nick Clark \/ Our Media<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>The area looks to open up other possibilities for mounting accessories, and we\u2019d love to see a speaker attachment to replace the silent zen of the trails with pumping techno.\u00a0<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-aggressive-geo\">Aggressive geo<\/h2><p>With its downhill focus, it\u2019s no surprise the Torque:ON has an aggressive geometry.<\/p><p>The bike comes in four sizes, ranging from S to XL, all of which see a slack 63.5-degree head angle, 445mm chainstay lengths and a 77.5-degree effective seat tube angle.<\/p><p>Reach is a little longer than other eMTBs, with a size-M stretching to 475mm.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-top-tier-spec\">Top-tier spec<\/h2><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1600\" height=\"1067\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/06\/O5A9870.jpg\" alt=\"Canyon Torque:On CF 9 with Fox Factory 38 forks\" class=\"wp-image-866396\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The Fox Factory 38 comes with a Grip 2 damper. &#8211;
