{"id":66642,"date":"2024-07-03T19:10:43","date_gmt":"2024-07-03T17:10:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/79330c5d-39b6-419f-b545-cacc1fcc0bdb"},"modified":"2024-07-03T19:25:27","modified_gmt":"2024-07-03T17:25:27","slug":"classified-and-trp-release-1x16-electronic-groupset-with-the-widest-gear-range-on-the-market","status":"publish","type":"rss_feed","link":"https:\/\/c01.purpledshub.com\/cyclingplus\/rss_feed\/classified-and-trp-release-1x16-electronic-groupset-with-the-widest-gear-range-on-the-market\/","title":{"rendered":"Classified and TRP release 1&#215;16 electronic groupset with the widest gear range on the market"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"rssexcerpt\">New groupset is the first to integrate Classified&#8217;s Powershift hub <\/p><p class=\"rssauthor\">By Stan Portus\n      <\/p><p class=\"rssbyline\">Published: Wednesday, 03 July 2024 at 17:10 PM<\/p><hr class=\"no-tts wp-block-separator\"\/><?xml version=\"1.0\" encoding=\"UTF-8\" standalone=\"yes\"?>\n<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC \"-\/\/W3C\/\/DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional\/\/EN\" \"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/REC-html40\/loose.dtd\">\n<html><body><p>Classified and Tektro Racing Products (TRP) have collaborated on a 1x electronic groupset called Vistar Powershift with up to 16 gears.<\/p><p>Classified and TRP say the Vistar Powershift has the widest range of any gravel or road bike groupset on the market.<\/p><p>With 16 speeds for road or 15 for gravel, the Vistar Powershift is said to have a gear range of 528 per cent.\u00a0<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-integrated-shifting\">Integrated shifting<\/h2><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The Classified internal gear hub has two speeds. &#8211; Stan Portus \/ Our Media<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>Unveiled at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/events\/eurobike\">Eurobike<\/a> ahead of its official launch in October, the new groupset was an opportunity for Classified to integrate a shifter for its two-speed Powershift hub into a groupset.\u00a0<\/p><p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/reviews\/classified-powershift-hub-review\">Classified Powershift<\/a> two-speed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/buyers-guides\/internal-gear-hubs\">internal gear hub<\/a> replaces your front derailleur. It offers the range of a 2x drivetrain and promises quicker and more reliable gear shifting.\u00a0<\/p><p>In the past, Classified relied on an auxiliary shifter \u2013 a bit like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/news\/sram-wireless-etap-axs-blips\">SRAM\u2019s blip shifter<\/a> \u2013 to change between its hub\u2019s two speeds.\u00a0<\/p><p>Yannick Mayer, product manager at Classified, says TRP was the first groupset manufacturer that was open to integrating a Classified shifter into a groupset\u2019s levers.\u00a0The Vistar Powershift is TRP&#8217;s first road and gravel<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>electronic groupset.<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1600\" height=\"1067\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/07\/Classified-TRP-Vistar-Powershift-Stan-Portus-2024070303.jpg\" alt=\"Classified and TRP Vistar powershift brake lever.\" class=\"wp-image-870611\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The levers have two buttons to change gears like on Shimano Di2 levers. &#8211; Stan Portus \/ Our Media<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>The gear shifters are configured like Shimano levers, with two buttons on each Vistar Powershift lever. The left lever controls the hub and the right controls the rear derailleur.\u00a0<\/p><p>\u201cThe synergies between our brands have been useful for this project and we\u2019re happy we can launch it now \u2013 it\u2019s been quite a while in development,\u201d says Mayer.\u00a0<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-many-gears-nbsp\">How many gears?\u00a0<\/h2><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1600\" height=\"1066\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/07\/Classified-TRP-Vistar-Powershift-Stan-Portus-2024070396.jpg\" alt=\"Classified TRP Vistar Powershift rear derailleur.\" class=\"wp-image-870615\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The derailleur works in tandem with the hub to provide 15 or 16 speeds. &#8211; Stan Portus \/ Our Media<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>The Vistar Powershift uses a 1x drivetrain, 12-speed cassette and Classified\u2019s Powershift hub.<\/p><p>Classified and TRP say Vistar Powershift has \u2018virtual shifting\u2019, courtesy of what they call QuantumShift.<\/p><p>Some simple arithmetic, however, may lead to some confusion. A 12-speed cassette paired with a two-speed hub does not make 15 or 16 gears.\u00a0<\/p><p>But Mayer says you do not get 24 gear ratios on 2x systems.\u00a0<\/p><p>\u201cIn traditional 2x systems, there is always an overlap,\u201d says Mayer. \u201cSo those systems have about 14 unique gears.\u201d\u00a0<\/p><p>\u201cWith our cassette spread and QuantumShift, we can extend that to 16. \u201cThe 16 are programmed in a way so it is the most seamless ratio spread that you can have.\u201d<\/p><p>\u201cThe gear range with the biggest cassette we sell \u2013 which is the 11-40t cassette \u2013 is 528 per cent.<\/p><p>\u201cFor comparison, with other gravel groupsets, which usually have a 10-52t cassette, the gear range is 520 per cent.<\/p><p>\u201cWith our option, you have small steps between the gears and still more overall range than the competition,\u201d he says.\u00a0<\/p><p>Despite this, Classified and Powershift say you can still use the Powershift hub and rear derailleur independently, enabling all 24 gear options.\u00a0<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-chain-management-and-braking-performance\">Chain management and braking performance<\/h2><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1600\" height=\"1067\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/07\/Classified-TRP-Vistar-Powershift-Stan-Portus-2024070301.jpg\" alt=\"Classified TRP Vistar Powershift front chainring.\" class=\"wp-image-870610\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The groupset is available with four chainring sizes from 46t to 52t. &#8211; Stan Portus \/ Our Media<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>In their press material, Classified and TRP highlight the aerodynamic benefit of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/buyers-guides\/1x-drivetrains\">1x drivetrain<\/a>, but they state their new groupset also optimises drivetrain efficiency through chainline management.<\/p><p>The Vistar Powershift groupset is available with a lightweight or aero crankset in four sizes: 46 or 48 teeth for gravel bikes, and 50 or 52 teeth for road bikes.\u00a0<\/p><p>Mayer says the cranksets are available in different offsets for the ideal chainline.<\/p><p>\u201cThe road chainline is 45mm and the gravel chainline is 47.5mm.\u201d\u00a0<\/p><p>\u201cThen we have a long gravel spindle. So that, in combination with the less offset chainring, gives you a 50mm chainline to clear the very narrow chainstays of some gravel bikes,\u201d he says.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p><p>The TRP cassette also features the brand\u2019s Wave Technology to ensure direct and quick shifting.\u00a0<\/p><p>TRP \u2013 which has also released an electronic drivetrain with Bosch at Eurobike \u2013 says it has brought its 35 years of experience producing advanced braking systems to the Vistar Powershift groupset.<\/p><p>TRP claims the Vistar\u2019s brakes are ergonomic and enable powerful, one-fingered braking \u201cirrespective of hand size\u201d.\u00a0<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-raced-at-unbound\">Raced at Unbound<\/h2><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1600\" height=\"1067\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/07\/Classified-TRP-Vistar-Powershift-Stan-Portus-2024070394.jpg\" alt=\"Classified aero front chainring.\" class=\"wp-image-870614\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The aero chainring on Arno Van Den Broeck&#8217;s Unbound bike.<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>Classified\u2019s first full groupset was raced at Unbound 2024 by Arno Van Den Broeck (Ridley Factory Team) who completed the 200-mile gravel course in nine hours.\u00a0<\/p><p>Classified and TRP cite this as proof of the Vistar Powershift\u2019s durability and reliability.
