{"id":66693,"date":"2024-07-09T16:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-07-09T14:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/c8b6cfa3-5602-412e-8e09-0fc84a4f1253"},"modified":"2024-07-09T16:25:29","modified_gmt":"2024-07-09T14:25:29","slug":"yt-set-out-to-produce-the-best-enduro-bike-possible-and-the-result-is-an-ebike","status":"publish","type":"rss_feed","link":"https:\/\/c01.purpledshub.com\/cyclingplus\/rss_feed\/yt-set-out-to-produce-the-best-enduro-bike-possible-and-the-result-is-an-ebike\/","title":{"rendered":"YT set out to produce &#8216;the best enduro bike possible&#8217; \u2013 and the result is an ebike"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"rssexcerpt\">New 160mm Decoy SN equipped with lighter motor and battery for natural-feeling ride <\/p><p class=\"rssauthor\">By Tom Marvin\n      <\/p><p class=\"rssbyline\">Published: Tuesday, 09 July 2024 at 14:00 PM<\/p><hr class=\"no-tts wp-block-separator\"\/><?xml version=\"1.0\" encoding=\"UTF-8\" standalone=\"yes\"?>\n<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC \"-\/\/W3C\/\/DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional\/\/EN\" \"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/REC-html40\/loose.dtd\">\n<html><body><div class=\"wp-block-group is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container\"><p>The new 160mm-travel YT Decoy SN, or Supernatural, is designed to be &#8216;the best enduro bike possible&#8217;.<\/p><p>That bold claim was the key goal for the engineers tasked with designing the SN \u2013\u00a0not to build the best enduro eMTB, but the best enduro bike full-stop \u2013 powered or not.<\/p><p>A blank page was given to the team, with no travel figures, weight goals, or \u2013 reportedly \u2013 motor or battery requirements in mind.<\/p><p>Early in the three-year development process, the team came to the belief that to reach the full demands of enduro riding, the bike had to be assisted.<\/p><p>Despite this, YT wanted the new Decoy SN to feel as if you&#8217;re sitting on a non-assisted <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/buyers-guides\/best-enduro-bikes\">enduro bike<\/a>, with all the handling benefits that brings, rather than on a heavy <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/buyers-guides\/best-electric-mountain-bikes\">electric mountain bike<\/a>. <\/p><p>Therefore, YT opted for a lighter motor and lower-capacity battery \u2013 the Fazua Ride 60 with its 430Wh battery.<\/p><p>After all, if you want a full-power eMTB, there\u2019s always the standard non-assisted <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/reviews\/bikes\/electric-bikes\/yt-decoy-mx-core-5\">Decoy<\/a>.<\/p><p>Tom Marvin rode the new YT Decoy SN Core 4 at its launch event and you can <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/reviews\/bikes\/electric-bikes\/yt-decoy-sn-core-4-first-ride-review\">read his first-ride review here<\/a>.<\/p><\/div><\/div><div class=\"wp-block-group is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container\"><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-facts-and-figures\">Facts and figures<\/h2><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">A bike like this deserves the stoutest single-crown fork offered by the relevant suspension brand. &#8211; YT<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>The Decoy SN is a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/buyers-guides\/how-much-suspension-travel-do-i-need-on-my-mountain-bike\">160mm-travel<\/a> carbon eMTB, with a 170mm fork up front and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/features\/what-is-faster-mullet-bike-29er\">mixed wheel sizes<\/a> \u2013 \u2018MX\u2019 in YT speak.<\/p><p>YT set out to make a bike that felt as natural as possible. As such, while it claims there were no weight constraints, the Decoy SN has been kept moderately light. It is, however, fitted with parts that should stand up to the rigours of enduro riding \u2013 a big fork, grippy rubber and punchy brakes.<\/p><p>This results in claimed weight figures (for a Small) below 21kg across all three models offered.<\/p><p>The shape of the bike is modern, without being extreme, although it&#8217;s longer, slacker and taller in stack than the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/reviews\/bikes\/mountain-bikes\/full-suspension-mountain-bikes\/yt-jeffsy-core-3-review-trail-bike-of-the-year-contender\">YT Jeffsy<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/reviews\/bikes\/mountain-bikes\/full-suspension-mountain-bikes\/yt-capra-core-4-29-2024-review\">Capra<\/a>.<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1600\" height=\"1067\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/07\/YT-Decoy-SN-geo-chip.jpg\" alt=\"YT Decoy SN full suspension mountain eBike\" class=\"wp-image-871439\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">There are two geometry settings available on the Decoy SN \u2013 Regular and Low. &#8211; The angular shapes are inspired by the Porsche 911 and Ferrari Testarossa families, while there\u2019s method, too, in the shapes.<\/p><p>The new hose and cable-entry ports, for example, have been built to ensure the rear brake hoses can have a smooth arc from lever to internal hose guides, whether you run the brake lever on the left or right-hand side of the bar.<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1599\" height=\"1066\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/07\/YT-Decoy-SN-headbox-news.jpg\" alt=\"YT Decoy SN full suspension mountain eBike\" class=\"wp-image-871441\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The headbox area of the frame received plenty of attention from YT&#8217;s engineers. &#8211; Ale Di Lullo \/ YT<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>YT utilises its tried-and-trusted V4L suspension linkage \u2013 a four-bar Horst linkage with a pivot on the chainstay.<\/p><p>It has been designed to give maximum grip, while delivering pop when you\u2019re hauling down the trail. <\/p><p>As such, it\u2019s said to be supple in the early part of its travel, supportive when you\u2019re mid-way through the 160mm on offer and progressive towards the end to ensure you\u2019re not putting your ankle joints to the test when you bottom it out.<\/p><\/div><\/div><div class=\"wp-block-group is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container\"><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-heart-of-the-matter\">The heart of the matter<\/h2><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1600\" height=\"1067\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/07\/YT-Decoy-SN-charge-port.jpg\" alt=\"YT Decoy SN Core 4 full suspension mountain eBike\" class=\"wp-image-871279\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Add electrons here. &#8211; Ale Di Lullo \/ YT<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>The beating heart of any eMTB is the motor and battery system \u2013 and YT has gone to Fazua for its drive unit.<\/p><p>Unlike with the Decoy, the brand decided three years ago to use the stock battery from Fazua.<\/p><p>The performance and integration of the motor was what drove the engineers to fit the unit.<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1599\" height=\"1066\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/07\/YT-Decoy-SN-Fazua-display-1.jpg\" alt=\"YT Decoy SN full suspension mountain eBike\" class=\"wp-image-871438\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The top-tube mounted Fazua display shows battery level and power mode, and hides a USB-C charge port. &#8211; Ale Di Lullo \/ YT<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>It&#8217;s designed to have a natural feeling and light weight, ensuring the bike rides as \u2018normally\u2019 as possible. It\u2019s also small in stature, meaning there\u2019s little compromise in being able to place pivots where they&#8217;re required.<\/p><p>The 430Wh battery isn\u2019t huge, but it helps keep bike weight below 21kg. With the efficiency of the motor, YT claims that on the lowest assistance mode an average rider could get up to 2,000m of climbing assistance, while in the higher modes, you\u2019ll get 1,300-1,500m.<\/p><p>With peak outputs of 60Nm and 450W, it might not shift uphill quite as effortlessly as a full-powered <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/buyers-guides\/electric-bike-motors\">electric bike motor<\/a>. However, there is a Boost mode, adding 100W of power for a limited time.<\/p><p>The battery is fully integrated as low as possible in the frame, saving around 1kg in weight and keeping the bike\u2019s centre of mass low.<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1599\" height=\"1066\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/07\/YT-Decoy-SN-charging-port.jpg\" alt=\"YT Decoy SN full suspension mountain eBike\" class=\"wp-image-871434\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Fazua&#8217;s magnetic charge cable plugs in here. &#8211; Ale Di Lullo \/ YT<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>The motor is well protected. A dual-material protector prevents rock strikes from damaging the down tube, while there\u2019s a harder skid plate under the motor that&#8217;s designed to slip over rocks and roots if you run aground. It is also engineered to aid motor ventilation.<\/p><p>The motor\u2019s modes are changed by a small ring-shifter mounted on the bar. This is said to be intuitive to use, without the need to look down at the bar to spot which button you\u2019re hitting.<\/p><p>The top-tube located display is also svelte and minimalist. However, its hidden trick is a USB-C port that can be used to charge phones or computers, or to link up to a computer to perform a firmware update.<\/p><\/div><\/div><div class=\"wp-block-group is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container\"><div class=\"wp-block-group is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container\"><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-yt-decoy-sn-spec-and-pricing\">YT Decoy SN spec and pricing<\/h2><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1599\" height=\"1066\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/07\/YT-Decoy-SN-1-1.jpg\" alt=\"YT Decoy SN full suspension mountain eBike\" class=\"wp-image-871433\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The YT Decoy SN is the outcome of YT wanting to build &#8216;the best enduro bike possible&#8217;. &#8211; Ale Di Lullo \/ YT<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>YT is offering three models of the Decoy SN: the Core 2, Core 3 and Core 4.<\/p><p>The brand set out to make no compromises on the ability of the frame and components to ensure the bike stands up to \u2018proper\u2019 enduro riding. <\/p><p>The Decoy SN can be specced with both <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/buyers-guides\/coil-vs-air\">air and coil shocks<\/a>, thanks to the progressive nature of the suspension linkage.<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1599\" height=\"1066\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/07\/YT-Decoy-SN-coil-shock.jpg\" alt=\"YT Decoy SN full suspension mountain eBike\" class=\"wp-image-871435\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Coil or air shocks can be run in the Decoy SN frame. &#8211; Ale Di Lullo \/ YT<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>While specs differ between models, there are a number of shared components.<\/p><p>All bikes come with a new Super Soft Enduro casing Continental Kryptotal Fr front tyre, with a harder-compound Kryptotal Rr at the back. This aggressive tyre is an all-rounder and the addition of the Super Soft compound should only increase grip levels.<\/p><p>The bikes all come with YT\u2019s Postman dropper post. This has a saddle-rail clamp with the bolts on the side of the saddle, angled out, rather than front and rear of the post. This makes the bolts easier to access in our experience.<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1600\" height=\"1067\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/07\/YT-Decoy-SN-continental-tyres.jpg\" alt=\"YT Decoy SN full suspension mountain eBike\" class=\"wp-image-871436\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Continental tyres will be a popular spec choice. &#8211; YT<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>The travel of the dropper is internally adjustable by 25mm, with the Small bikes getting a 150mm post, Medium receiving a 170mm version, Large and XL a 200mm-travel dropper and the XXL a whopping 230mm of drop.<\/p><p>The new version of the post has a 34.9mm diameter.<\/p><p>All bikes share the same carbon frame and Fazua Ride 60 motor and battery, with 160mm e*thirteen cranks fitted as standard.<\/p><p>They all sport a custom MRP SL chain guide, SDG Bel-Air 3.0 saddle and 40mm-rise aluminium handlebar.<\/p><\/div><\/div><div class=\"wp-block-group is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container\"><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-yt-decoy-sn-core-2\">YT Decoy SN Core 2 <\/h3><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1600\" height=\"1067\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/07\/YT-Decoy-SN-Core-2.jpeg\" alt=\"YT Decoy SN full suspension mountain eBike\" class=\"wp-image-871428\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The entry-level YT Decoy SN Core 2. &#8211; YT<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>The cheapest model gets Select-level suspension from RockShox \u2013 a ZEB fork and Vivid Air shock. This comes in the form of a GX cassette and the new OEM-only S1000 rear derailleur.<\/p><p>TRP DH-R Evo brakes bring the bike to a stop, while Crankbrothers\u2019 Synthesis E-Bike Alloy wheels keep it rolling.
