{"id":67132,"date":"2024-07-22T17:44:02","date_gmt":"2024-07-22T15:44:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/c034eacb-e6be-4e4c-a273-16d1ad9c7dee"},"modified":"2024-07-22T18:25:28","modified_gmt":"2024-07-22T16:25:28","slug":"tadej-pogacars-yellow-tour-de-france-winning-colnago-v4rs-and-lightweight-tt1-time-trial-bike","status":"publish","type":"rss_feed","link":"https:\/\/c01.purpledshub.com\/cyclingplus\/rss_feed\/tadej-pogacars-yellow-tour-de-france-winning-colnago-v4rs-and-lightweight-tt1-time-trial-bike\/","title":{"rendered":"Tadej Poga\u010dar\u2019s yellow Tour de France winning Colnago V4Rs and lightweight TT1 time trial bike"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"rssexcerpt\">A closer look at Poga\u010dar\u2019s Tour-winning bikes <\/p><p class=\"rssauthor\">By Simon von Bromley\n      <\/p><p class=\"rssbyline\">Published: Monday, 22 July 2024 at 15:44 PM<\/p><hr class=\"no-tts wp-block-separator\"\/><?xml version=\"1.0\" encoding=\"UTF-8\" standalone=\"yes\"?>\n<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC \"-\/\/W3C\/\/DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional\/\/EN\" \"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/REC-html40\/loose.dtd\">\n<html><body><p>Tadej Poga\u010dar stormed to a third Tour de France victory in Nice on Sunday, winning the final stage and completing the first Giro-Tour double since 1998.<\/p><p>Although there was no ceremonial final stage to Paris this year (due to the upcoming <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/events\/paris-2024\">2024 Paris Olympics<\/a>), Colnago nevertheless built Poga\u010dar a custom-painted V4Rs to accompany the Slovenian star onto the final podium.<\/p><p>Given the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/features\/2024-tour-de-france-stage-21-time-trial-preview\">final stage was a time trial<\/a>, Poga\u010dar finished this year\u2019s Tour aboard his Colnago TT1 \u2013 with a host of modifications to make it as light as possible for the mountainous course profile.<\/p><p>Let\u2019s take a closer look at the two bikes.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-tadej-pogacar-s-2024-tour-de-france-winning-colnago-v4rs\">Tadej Poga\u010dar\u2019s 2024 Tour de France winning Colnago V4Rs<\/h2><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">It&#8217;s another Tour win for Poga\u010dar and another yellow bike to celebrate it. &#8211; Alen Milavec \/ Colnago<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>As noted in our deep dive into <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/features\/pro-bike\/tadej-pogacar-colnago-v4rs-versus-jonas-vingegaard-cervelo-r5-2024-tour-de-france\">Poga\u010dar\u2019s Colnago V4Rs versus Jonas Vingegaard\u2019s Cerv\u00e9lo R5<\/a>, the V4Rs is the Italian brand\u2019s all-rounder racing bike.<\/p><p>It has a claimed weight of 795g for an unpainted, size-50s frame, so we imagine this particular frameset might weigh a little more given its special-edition paintjob.<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1707\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/07\/2024-Tour-de-France-winners-bike_Tadej-Pogacars-yellow-Colnago-V4Rs_013-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"Tadej Poga\u010dar's yellow Colnago V4Rs\" class=\"wp-image-873579\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">This yellow V4Rs likely weighs a little more than the standard frameset, but that doesn&#8217;t matter on the podium. &#8211; Alen Milavec \/ Colnago<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>This perhaps explains why Poga\u010dar didn&#8217;t use a fully yellow bike during the race, instead opting for simpler \u2013 and almost certainly lighter \u2013 yellow logos and accents during his time wearing the race leader\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/features\/tour-de-france-jersey-colours\">yellow jersey<\/a>.<\/p><p>Custom paint and graphics aside, though, the build spec was near-identical to the V4Rs Poga\u010dar used to take five out of his six stage wins at this year\u2019s race.<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1707\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/07\/2024-Tour-de-France-winners-bike_Tadej-Pogacars-yellow-Colnago-V4Rs_016-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"Tadej Poga\u010dar's yellow Colnago V4Rs\" class=\"wp-image-873582\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The build replicates the one Poga\u010dar used throughout this year&#8217;s Tour. &#8211; Alen Milavec \/ Colnago<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>It features a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/reviews\/components\/groupsets\/groupset-road\/shimano-dura-ace-di2-r9200-review\">Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 R9200 groupset<\/a>, upgraded with CarbonTi chainrings and brake rotors, plus AbsoluteBlack brake pads.<\/p><p>ENVE supplied a set of its SES 4.5 wheels, with custom yellow graphics featuring iconography from this year\u2019s Tour.<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1707\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/07\/2024-Tour-de-France-winners-bike_Tadej-Pogacars-yellow-Colnago-V4Rs_010-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"Tadej Poga\u010dar's yellow Colnago V4Rs\" class=\"wp-image-873576\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The ENVE wheels have custom graphics with detailed iconography from the race. &#8211; Alen Milavec \/ Colnago<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>Despite the challenging course profile, Poga\u010dar went all-in on aerodynamics and rode his full <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/news\/colnago-tt1\">Colnago TT1<\/a> time trial setup for the final stage.<\/p><p>It was effective too, as he demolished the field to finish 1:03 ahead of his nearest rival, Jonas Vingegaard.<\/p><p>His setup wasn\u2019t exactly the same as he used for the rolling course of the race\u2019s first individual time trial on stage 7, instead making a few concessions to weight and climbing.<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1706\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/07\/GettyImages-2162913779-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"MONACO, FRANCE - JULY 21: Tadej Pogacar of Slovenia and UAE Team Emirates - Yellow Leader Jersey sprints during the 111th Tour de France 2024, Stage 21 a 33.7km individual time trial from Monaco to Nice \/ #UCIWT \/ on July 21, 2024 in Monaco, France. (Photo by Dario Belingheri\/Getty Images)\" class=\"wp-image-873562\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Poga\u010dar rode a full TT setup with only a few weight-saving modifications. &#8211; Dario Belingheri\/Getty Images<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>Most notably, Poga\u010dar swapped from an AeroCoach Aeox Titan front wheel to an ENVE SES 6.7.<\/p><p>The AeroCoach front wheel has a claimed weight of 1,050g compared to 675g for the ENVE, so the switch ought to have saved Poga\u010dar around 375g.<\/p><p>Whether it was worth it or not is an interesting consideration. According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/author\/dr-xavier-disley\">Dr Xavier Disley<\/a> (the director of AeroCoach), switching to a lighter, less aerodynamic front wheel wouldn\u2019t have been a net gain overall.<\/p><p>This is likely because although it may have been marginally faster during the climbs, it would have been slower elsewhere on the course.<\/p><p>In any case, Poga\u010dar won by a big enough margin that such equipment choices evidently didn\u2019t matter.<\/p><p>The ENVE front wheel was paired with an AeroCoach Aeox Orbit rear disc wheel. From the limited images we have, we believe Poga\u010dar used <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/features\/first-look-friday\/trek-ballista-continental-gp5000-tt-tr\">Continental\u2019s GP5000 TT TR tyres<\/a>.<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1708\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/07\/GettyImages-2162912256-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"MONACO, FRANCE - JULY 21: Tadej Pogacar of Slovenia and UAE Team Emirates - Yellow Leader Jersey sprints during the 111th Tour de France 2024, Stage 21 a 33.7km individual time trial from Monaco to Nice \/ #UCIWT \/ on July 21, 2024 in Monaco, France. (Photo by Dario Belingheri\/Getty Images)\" class=\"wp-image-873561\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Poga\u010dar used a 2x drivetrain and a shallower ENVE front wheel. &#8211; Dario Belingheri\/Getty Images<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>As on his road bike, Poga\u010dar\u2019s time trial bike was equipped with a Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 groupset, upgraded with CarbonTi chainrings and brake rotors, and AbsoluteBlack brake pads.<\/p><p>He opted for two (rather large-looking) front chainrings and a front derailleur instead of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/features\/opinion\/1x-on-road-bikes\">1x drivetrain<\/a>, as did Vingegaard and Evenepoel.<\/p><p>Notably, Poga\u010dar used an SRM Origin Road PM9 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/buyers-guides\/best-power-meters\">power meter<\/a> spider paired with &#8216;superlight&#8217; SRM Cybrei Dub carbon cranks, in place of his usual Shimano FC-R9200-P power meter crankset.<\/p><p>Whether this is a swap purely for weight reasons or otherwise, we\u2019re not sure \u2013 and given Shimano is a team sponsor, we\u2019re unlikely to get an answer.<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2400\" height=\"1600\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/07\/2024-Tour-de-France-winners-bike_Tadej-Pogacars-Colnago-TT1-time-trial-bike_007.jpg\" alt=\"Tadej Poga\u010dar's Colnago TT1\" class=\"wp-image-873565\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Colnago&#8217;s TT1 is a hyper-aero time trial bike. &#8211; Alen Milavec \/ Colnago<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>Poga\u010dar was also using a 145g &#8216;special superlight&#8217; carbon seatpost made for the TT1 collaboration with Spanish carbon fibre specialists, Darimo.<\/p><p>As well as using pricier carbon fibre than the standard TT1 seatpost, the Darimo post saves weight by using a fixed offset head.<\/p><p>This was topped with Prologo\u2019s new Time Trial Predator saddle. Developed in collaboration with Poga\u010dar, it\u2019s claimed to offer \u201coptimised weight reduction and enhanced performance\u201d, at the rather extraordinary price of \u00a31,015.<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1707\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/07\/2024-Tour-de-France-winners-bike_Tadej-Pogacars-Colnago-TT1-time-trial-bike_005-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"Tadej Poga\u010dar's Colnago TT1 seatpost and saddle\" class=\"wp-image-873564\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Poga\u010dar&#8217;s bike had a special seatpost and a \u00a31,015 saddle. &#8211;
