{"id":67149,"date":"2024-07-24T11:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-07-24T09:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/f3b8041d-e461-4a1b-a9b6-dba655f75bad"},"modified":"2024-07-24T11:25:37","modified_gmt":"2024-07-24T09:25:37","slug":"kask-says-the-nirvana-is-the-fastest-and-best-ventilated-aero-helmet-you-can-buy","status":"publish","type":"rss_feed","link":"https:\/\/c01.purpledshub.com\/cyclingplus\/rss_feed\/kask-says-the-nirvana-is-the-fastest-and-best-ventilated-aero-helmet-you-can-buy\/","title":{"rendered":"Kask says the Nirvana is the fastest and best-ventilated aero helmet you can buy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"rssexcerpt\">Ineos Grenadiers&#8217; aero helmet is 19 per cent better ventilated and 35 per cent more aerodynamic than its rivals, according to the Italian brand <\/p><p class=\"rssauthor\">By Jack Evans\n      <\/p><p class=\"rssbyline\">Published: Wednesday, 24 July 2024 at 09:00 AM<\/p><hr class=\"no-tts wp-block-separator\"\/><?xml version=\"1.0\" encoding=\"UTF-8\" standalone=\"yes\"?>\n<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC \"-\/\/W3C\/\/DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional\/\/EN\" \"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/REC-html40\/loose.dtd\">\n<html><body><p>Kask has launched the Nirvana, claiming the aero helmet offers \u201cgame-changing aerodynamic performance\u201d, superior ventilation and \u201cnext-level\u201d safety.\u00a0<\/p><p>Ineos Grenadiers, the Kask-sponsored <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/features\/pro-bike\/worldtour-bikes\">WorldTour team<\/a>, have been riding the Nirvana, with its distinctive ear tip covers, in public since January.\u00a0<\/p><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/news\/2025-kask-utopia\">As we reported at the time<\/a>, the new aero helmet\u2019s pattern of front vents mimic the lightweight <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/reviews\/helmets\/road-cycling-helmets\/kask-utopia-y-helmet-review\">Utopia Y<\/a>, which it replaces. Meanwhile, the sides, which cover the tops of the wearer\u2019s ears, and the rear bob-tail recall the Bambino.\u00a0<\/p><p>Kask pitches the Nirvana, which it claims minimises drag and optimises comfort, at road and track cyclists \u2013 and triathletes seeking &#8220;maximum performance&#8221;. <\/p><p>The Kask Nirvana is available to buy now for \u00a3320 \/ $400 \/ \u20ac360 \/ AU$570, in medium (52-58cm) and large (59-62cm) sizes.\u00a0<\/p><p>It comes in five colours: White Matt, Black Matt, Cherry Red, Blueberry Fade and Ultra-Violet.\u00a0<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-fastest-and-coolest-aero-helmet\">The fastest and coolest aero helmet<\/h2><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Kask says the Nirvana achieves &#8220;aero perfection&#8221;. &#8211; Kask<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>Kask claims the Nirvana is 19 per cent better ventilated and 35 per cent more aerodynamic than the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/buyers-guides\/best-aero-helmets\">best aero helmets<\/a>. However, the Italian brand will not share evidence to support this claim.\u00a0<\/p><p>Relative to its own <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/buyers-guides\/best-road-bike-helmets\">road bike helmets<\/a>, Kask says the Nirvana is cooler than the Utopia Y, but not as well ventilated as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/reviews\/helmets\/road-cycling-helmets\/kask-protone-icon-helmet-review\">Protone Icon<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/reviews\/helmets\/road-cycling-helmets\/kask-valegro-review\">Valegro<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/reviews\/helmets\/road-cycling-helmets\/kask-elemento-helmet-review\">Elemento<\/a>.<\/p><p>Kask says it used computational fluid dynamics to test the aerodynamics of the Nirvana being worn by a digital model of a rider.\u00a0<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"8192\" height=\"5464\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/07\/ANN2008.jpg\" alt=\"Male cyclist wearing red Kask Nirvana helmet in time-trial position\" class=\"wp-image-873012\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Kask is targeting watt-obsessed roadies, track riders and triathletes with the Nirvana. &#8211; Kask<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>At a wind speed of 45kph, and at wind angles of 0, 10 and 20 degrees, Kask claims it found the Nirvana produces less drag than the Utopia Y.\u00a0<\/p><p>The Nirvana saves 4.4W or 72 seconds over 180km at 45kph, 6W or 7.2 seconds over 20km at 50kph and 10.4W or 1.2 seconds over 4km at 60kph, according to the brand.\u00a0<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"8192\" height=\"5464\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/07\/ANN8629.jpg\" alt=\"Male cyclist climbing riding blue Kask Nirvana helmet\" class=\"wp-image-873029\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The Nirvana keeps your head much cooler than the best aero helmets, according to Kask. &#8211; Kask<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>Kask says the European version of the Nirvana weighs 270g, while the American and Australian model weighs 290g. This is claimed to improve fit and comfort, while letting longer hair pass through the back of the helmet.\u00a0<\/p><p>However, Kask admits the Nirvana\u2019s ear tip covers won\u2019t suit people with large ears.\u00a0<\/p><p>The sunglasses port at the back of the helmet is optimised for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/buyers-guides\/best-glasses-for-cycling\">cycling sunglasses<\/a> from Koo, Kask\u2019s in-house brand. But Ineos Grenadiers\u2019 SunGod sunglasses appear to fit fine.<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1707\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/07\/IMG_6010-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"Inside of Kask Nirvana helmet shell\" class=\"wp-image-873019\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Multipod internal padding is said to absorb more energy if you hit your head. &#8211; Kask<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>Kask says the Nirvana meets its own WG11 safety standard. The Italian brand uses this instead of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/buyers-guides\/what-is-mips\">MIPS<\/a> and is waiting for a rating from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/buyers-guides\/safest-road-mtb-helmet\">Virginia Tech<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p><p>By absorbing 10 per cent more energy from impacts, Multipod, Kask\u2019s own 3D-printed internal padding, \u201cstrengthens the helmet against linear and rotational impacts\u201d, according to the brand.<\/p><p>Kask says Multipod is an isotropic material, meaning it reacts in the same way to force from any direction. This can minimise shear stress between the head and inside of the helmet, according to the brand.\u00a0<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1707\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/07\/IMG_6016-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"White Kask Nirvana road bike helmet\" class=\"wp-image-873020\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Kask acknowledges that the Nirvana&#8217;s dropped sides won&#8217;t fit larger ears. &#8211; Kask<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>You can also fit a reflective insert into the back of the helmet.
