{"id":67713,"date":"2024-08-07T13:47:56","date_gmt":"2024-08-07T11:47:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/85057fa0-031a-4ef3-8123-45f9f381a756"},"modified":"2024-08-07T14:25:25","modified_gmt":"2024-08-07T12:25:25","slug":"colnago-saves-the-rim-brake-with-6300-c68-frameset","status":"publish","type":"rss_feed","link":"https:\/\/c01.purpledshub.com\/cyclingplus\/rss_feed\/colnago-saves-the-rim-brake-with-6300-c68-frameset\/","title":{"rendered":"Colnago saves the rim brake with \u00a36,300 C68 frameset"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"rssexcerpt\">Italian brand adds to diminishing selection of premium, modern rim brake frames <\/p><p class=\"rssauthor\">By <\/p><p class=\"rssbyline\">Published: Wednesday, 07 August 2024 at 11:47 AM<\/p><hr class=\"no-tts wp-block-separator\"\/><?xml version=\"1.0\" encoding=\"UTF-8\" standalone=\"yes\"?>\n<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC \"-\/\/W3C\/\/DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional\/\/EN\" \"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/REC-html40\/loose.dtd\">\n<html><body><p>Colnago has released a rim brake C68 frameset with a claimed weight of 1,080g, costing \u00a36,299.99 \/ $7,750 \/ \u20ac6,750.\u00a0<\/p><p>The C68 Rim Brake is a modular, carbon frameset handmade in Italy and compatible only with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/buyers-guides\/electronic-groupsets\">electronic groupsets<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p><p>The premium Italian brand says the addition of a rim brake frameset completes the C68 range, which already includes a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/reviews\/bikes\/road-bikes\/colnago-c68-dura-ace-review\">disc brake road bike<\/a> and an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/features\/bike-of-the-week\/colnago-c68-allroad-first-look\">all-road bike<\/a>.<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Colnago&#8217;s C68 Rim Brake joins the few top-end rim brake framesets still made. &#8211; Colnago<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>Colnago had a rim brake bike in its range until 2022, when the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/reviews\/bikes\/road-bikes\/colnago-v4rs-dura-ace-di2-review\">disc brake only V4Rs <\/a>replaced the V3Rs.<\/p><p>Indeed, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/features\/pro-bike\/pogacar-bennett-bikes-paris\">Tadej Poga\u00e7ar rode the rim-brake V3R<\/a>s on mountain stages during his 2020 and 2021 Tour de France wins.\u00a0<\/p><p>Now the three-time Yellow Jersey winner races exclusively on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/features\/pro-bike\/tadej-pogacar-colnago-v4rs-versus-jonas-vingegaard-cervelo-r5-2024-tour-de-france\">VR4s all-rounder<\/a>, which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/features\/tech\/2024-tour-de-france-bike-weights\">we weighed at 7.71kg<\/a> at the Grand D\u00e9part.\u00a0<\/p><p>Poga\u010dar could save weight by riding rim brakes. However, we suspect a combination of cajoling from Colnago and the promise of watt savings converted him to the more aerodynamically optimised V4Rs.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1800\" height=\"1135\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/08\/C68_VBRAKE_telaio_-_fondo_nero_laterale.jpg\" alt=\"Side-on shot of Colnago C68 rim brake frameset\" class=\"wp-image-876318\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">A painted size 485 frame is claimed to weigh 1,050g. &#8211; Colnago<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>As ever, there is<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/features\/tech\/road-tech-the-pros-cant-have-but-you-can\"> tech the pros can\u2019t have but you can<\/a>. And by launching the C68 Rim Brake, Colnago hopes to appeal to cyclists in search of a high-end, modern rim-brake frameset.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p><p>The widespread adoption of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/buyers-guides\/road-disc-brakes-everything-you-need-to-know\">road disc brakes<\/a> has almost wiped out this kind of bike. Most of the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/buyers-guides\/rim-brake-road-bikes\"> rim brake bikes you can still buy<\/a> are more affordable.\u00a0<\/p><p>For example, Pinarello used to offer the Dogma F race bike in rim-brake form, but the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/reviews\/bikes\/road-bikes\/2025-pinarello-dogma-f\">latest version<\/a> is disc-brake only.\u00a0<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1800\" height=\"1201\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/08\/C68_VBRAKE_telaio_-_fondo_nero_particolare_3.jpg\" alt=\"Direct rim brake mounts on Colnago C68 rim brake frameset\" class=\"wp-image-876319\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The C68 uses direct-mount calipers. &#8211; Colnago<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>The C68 Rim Brake is nearly identical to the disc brake version, apart from a couple of modifications to enable rim brakes to be fitted.\u00a0<\/p><p>Colnago has altered the fork and seatstays, so you can attach direct-mount rim brake calipers.<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1281\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/08\/colnagoc68dropouts.jpg\" alt=\"Colnago C68 rim brake dropouts\" class=\"wp-image-876322\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The quick-release dropouts are 3D-printed titanium. &#8211; Colnago<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>In place of thru-axles, the C68 has 3D-printed titanium quick-release dropouts. Colnago says titanium is one of the few metals to \u201cbond perfectly with carbon\u201d.\u00a0<\/p><p>In terms of electronic groupsets, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/reviews\/components\/groupsets\/groupset-road\/shimano-dura-ace-di2-r9200-review\">Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 R9200 <\/a>is your only option if you want the latest version in rim brake form.<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1800\" height=\"1201\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/08\/C68_VBRAKE_telaio_-_fondo_nero_particolare_14.jpg\" alt=\"Colnago C68 rim brake fork\" class=\"wp-image-876320\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The C68 fork has been modified to accept rim brakes. &#8211; Colnago<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>Otherwise, you\u2019ll have to go back a generation, for example to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/reviews\/components\/groupsets\/groupset-road\/campagnolo-super-record-eps-first-ride-review\">Campagnolo Super Record EPS<\/a>.
