Founded in Connecticut, USA, it\u2019s now part of the same group as Black &amp; Decker and DeWalt.<\/p><p>Best-known for its hand tools, it makes power tools, too, including a range of air compressors.<\/p><p>The Stanley FatMax Walltech Pro (model number FMXCMD152WE) is a powerful unit that can <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/workshop\/how-to-pump-up-a-bike-tyre\">inflate bicycle tyres<\/a> in seconds, and makes tubeless set-up considerably easier.<\/p><p>It\u2019s bulky, though, has to be wall-mounted, and isn\u2019t without fault.<\/p><\/div><\/div><div class=\"wp-block-group is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container\"><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-stanley-fatmax-walltech-pro-air-compressor-details-and-specifications\">Stanley FatMax Walltech Pro air compressor details and specifications<\/h2><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The loose connection between the reel and the main body of the compressor is the only thing that takes away from the quality feel. &#8211; James Costley-White \/ MBUK<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>The Stanley FatMax Walltech Pro is a chunky unit \u2013 measuring 450x241x642mm \u2013 with a 2l air tank.<\/p><p>It\u2019s designed to be wall-mounted to save floor space. At around 12kg, you wouldn\u2019t want to be lugging this thing around anyway.<\/p><p>The compressor\u2019s 1.5-horsepower, 1.1kW motor pumps out 180l of air per minute, achieving pressures of up to 8bar (116psi).<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1600\" height=\"1067\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/07\/STANLEY-FATMAX-Walltech-7-Main-dial.jpg\" alt=\"STANLEY FATMAX Walltech Pro air compressor\" class=\"wp-image-871693\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The dial on the main body of the compressor shows psi as well as bar. &#8211; James Costley-White \/ MBUK<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>It has a built-in 9m hose reel, which is compatible with many different heads, all of which have to be bought separately.<\/p><p>Our test unit was provided by Compressor Shop, who supplied it with the homologated (approved and certified) inflating gun kit with three \u2018needles\u2019 (\u00a339.87) plus an air-dusting attachment (\u00a313.71).<\/p><p>You can also get a standard inflating gun kit (\u00a322.75 \u2013 more on this later) and a homologated gun without needles (\u00a331.37). Stanley\u2019s Oil-Less Technology means you shouldn&#8217;t need to maintain the compressor, save for draining any water from condensation after use.<\/p><\/div><\/div><div class=\"wp-block-group is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container\"><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-stanley-fatmax-walltech-pro-air-compressor-performance\">Stanley FatMax Walltech Pro air compressor performance<\/h2><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1600\" height=\"1067\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/07\/STANLEY-FATMAX-Walltech-8-Presta-adapter.jpg\" alt=\"STANLEY FATMAX Walltech Pro air compressor\" class=\"wp-image-871694\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">A simple quick-release lever on the end of the homologated inflating gun allows you to fit a Presta valve adapter (included). &#8211; James Costley-White \/ MBUK<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>If you\u2019ve had enough of struggling with stubborn <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/buyers-guides\/tubeless\">tubeless tyres<\/a>, this powerful compressor can work miracles.<\/p><p>Wall-mounting the compressor is an easy 10-minute job using the included paper template, although you will need a tape measure, pencil, spirit level and drill.<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1600\" height=\"1067\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/07\/STANLEY-FATMAX-Walltech-12-Air-gun.jpg\" alt=\"STANLEY FATMAX Walltech Pro air compressor\" class=\"wp-image-871698\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Other available attachments include this air gun, which is useful for drying and cleaning. &#8211; James Costley-White \/ MBUK<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>Once in place, you pull out the hose, add the attachment of your choice (securing it with a thumb lever), flick the \u2018on\u2019 button on the compressor body and get to work.<\/p><p>I tested the compressor mostly with the homologated inflating gun kit, which comes with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/buyers-guides\/presta-vs-schrader-valves\">Presta valve<\/a> head, a conical needle and a straight needle (suitable for pumping up balls).<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1600\" height=\"1067\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/07\/STANLEY-FATMAX-Walltech-6-Inflation-gun-dial.jpg\" alt=\"STANLEY FATMAX Walltech Pro air compressor\" class=\"wp-image-871692\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Annoyingly, the dial on the homologated inflating gun only shows pressure in bar, not psi. &#8211; James Costley-White \/ MBUK<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>This has a major flaw \u2013 its analogue dial only displays bar ratings, not psi, so you either have to attach an inline gauge or squint to see the dial on the compressor itself to get the precise <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/workshop\/road-bike-tyre-pressure\">tyre pressure<\/a> you\u2019re after.<\/p><p>Thankfully, Stanley also offers a standard inflating gun kit, with the same three needles, which has a gauge with psi markings.<\/p><p>Whichever head you use, the compressor provides the rapid burst of air required to seat stubborn tubeless tyres, inflating a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/reviews\/components\/tyres\/mountain-bike-tyres\/maxxis-minion-dhf-3c-maxxterra-exo-tr-29-x-2-5-wt-tyre-review\">Maxxis Minion DHF <\/a>29&#215;2.5in Wide Trail mountain bike tyre on a 32mm wide (internal) rim to 1.5bar\/22psi in just six seconds.<\/p><p>That\u2019s incredibly fast, and much speedier than using even <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/buyers-guides\/best-bike-pump\">the best track pump<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/features\/6-of-the-best-tubeless-pumps-and-inflators\">tubeless inflator<\/a>.<\/p><p>The air-dusting attachment is useful, too, with a flexible nozzle that allows you to clean parts of your bike you can\u2019t reach with a cloth or brush. I also used it to blow away excess water after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/clean-your-bike-in-7-simple-steps\">washing my bike<\/a> and help keep rust at bay.<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1600\" height=\"1067\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/07\/STANLEY-FATMAX-Walltech-10-Inflation-gun-2.jpg\" alt=\"STANLEY FATMAX Walltech Pro air compressor\" class=\"wp-image-871696\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Attachments fit via a push-fit connection. &#8211; James Costley-White \/ MBUK<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>Stanley&#8217;s oil-less tech means there\u2019s no lubrication oil to be kept manually topped up. It also ensures that the air that comes out of the compressor is clean. The brand says it\u2019s maintenance-free, and I certainly had no problems during testing.<\/p><p>However, the lack of oil does contribute to the machine being quite loud. <\/p><p>Gauge and price aside, my only complaint is that the loose-fitting plastic hose-reel box detracts from the otherwise quality feel.<\/p><\/div><\/div><div class=\"wp-block-group is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container\"><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-does-the-stanley-fatmax-walltech-pro-air-compressor-compare-to-a-tubeless-inflator\">How does the STANLEY FATMAX Walltech Pro air compressor compare to a tubeless inflator?<\/h2><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1800\" height=\"1200\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/04\/Flextail-Tiny-Bike-Pump-06.jpeg\" alt=\"Flextail Tiny Bike Pump for road bikes\" class=\"wp-image-824500\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Flextails Tiny Bike pump is a mini-compressor that packs a punch. &#8211; Warren Rossiter \/ Our Media<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>Tubeless inflators \u2013 available as a standalone unit or integrated with a track pump \u2013 are another good way to get a lot of air into a tyre quickly. <\/p><p>However, they can\u2019t match the Walltech Pro for speed or convenience, needing to be inflated manually and delivering a lower volume of air at a slower rate, which isn\u2019t as effective at seating tubeless tyres.<\/p><p>They are quiet and portable, though, and substantially cheaper.<\/p><\/div><\/div><div class=\"wp-block-group is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container\"><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-stanley-fatmax-walltech-pro-air-compressor-bottom-line\">STANLEY FATMAX Walltech Pro air compressor bottom line<\/h2><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1600\" height=\"1067\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/07\/STANLEY-FATMAX-Walltech-5-Inflation-gun-1.jpg\" alt=\"STANLEY FATMAX Walltech Pro air compressor\" class=\"wp-image-871691\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">A variety of attachments are available; this is the homolgated inflating gun kit. &#8211; James Costley-White \/ MBUK<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>While overkill for most home mechanics, the Stanley FatMax Walltech Pro is a great bit of kit if you can afford it.
