{"id":69550,"date":"2024-09-17T18:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-09-17T16:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/0747a18c-2465-42e0-9771-961a05d61bc2"},"modified":"2024-09-17T18:25:31","modified_gmt":"2024-09-17T16:25:31","slug":"the-specialized-stumpjumper-15-is-now-more-affordable-thanks-to-a-new-alloy-frame","status":"publish","type":"rss_feed","link":"https:\/\/c01.purpledshub.com\/cyclingplus\/rss_feed\/the-specialized-stumpjumper-15-is-now-more-affordable-thanks-to-a-new-alloy-frame\/","title":{"rendered":"The Specialized Stumpjumper 15 is now more affordable thanks to a new alloy frame\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"rssexcerpt\">Fox Genie shock tech and six-way geometry adjust maintained on the alloy frame <\/p><p class=\"rssauthor\">By <\/p><p class=\"rssbyline\">Published: Tuesday, 17 September 2024 at 16:00 PM<\/p><hr class=\"no-tts wp-block-separator\"\/><?xml version=\"1.0\" encoding=\"UTF-8\" standalone=\"yes\"?>\n<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC \"-\/\/W3C\/\/DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional\/\/EN\" \"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/REC-html40\/loose.dtd\">\n<html><body><p>Specialized has unveiled an aluminium version of the Stumpjumper 15, which it released earlier this year.<\/p><p>The new trail bike features the same geometry adjustment and Fox-developed Genie shock that&#8217;s found on the carbon models, but is made from the brand&#8217;s M5 alloy.<\/p><p>The new Stumpjumper 15 Alloy will be available in three models, with prices starting at \u00a32,750 \/ $3,000 \/ \u20ac3,250 \/ AU$4,900 for the Stumpjumper 15 Alloy and the coil-shock equipped Stumpjumper Fox Coil Alloy topping the range at \u00a35,000 \/ $5,500 \/ \u20ac6,200 \/ AU$8,500.<\/p><p>You can also choose a frameset-only option in some territories, priced at $2,300 \/ \u20ac2,600 \/ AU$3,900.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Aluminium all-mountain<\/h2><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The frame has a similar outline to the carbon model. &#8211; <span>Specialized<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure><p>Specialized had previously only offered the new Stumpjumper with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/buyers-guides\/bike-frame-materials\">carbon construction<\/a>, with this new model following the brand\u2019s trend of adding aluminium options after an initial model release.<\/p><p>We\u2019ve seen this with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/reviews\/bikes\/mountain-bikes\/full-suspension-mountain-bikes\/specialized-epic-8-pro-review\">Specialized Epic 8<\/a>, which was followed by the new Chisel FS earlier this year.<\/p><p>The new bike is made from the same M5 alloy as the Chisel FS, but sees more traditional tube forming, with the brand\u2019s D&#8217;Aluisio Smartweld tech not featuring.<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"4388\" height=\"2925\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/09\/Specialized-Stumpjumper-15-Fox-Col-Alloy-linkage.png\" alt=\"Specialized Stumpjumper 15 Fox Col Alloy linkage\" class=\"wp-image-880974\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The linkage is aluminium, as on most of the carbon variants. &#8211; <span>Specialized<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure><p>Specialized has given the new Stumpjumper 145mm of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/buyers-guides\/how-much-suspension-travel-do-i-need-on-my-mountain-bike\">rear-suspension travel<\/a>, which is articulated via a Horst-linkage.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Genie suspension<\/h2><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1600\" height=\"1067\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/06\/Specialized-Stumpjumper-15-GENIE-insides-3.jpg\" alt=\"Specialized Stumpjumper 15 full suspension mountain bike\" class=\"wp-image-869311\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Two positive air chambers are connected to increase overall air volume, although as the bike moves through its travel, the larger of the two becomes cut off, ensuring there&#8217;s sufficient progression on offer to deal with the bigger impacts. &#8211; <span>Specialized<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure><p>The US-based brand has co-developed a rear shock with Fox dubbed the Genie, which is claimed to give the bike 16.3 per cent better bump-force management than a traditional air-sprung shock.<\/p><p>Specialized says this new shock gives the bike a long-travel feeling, while retaining the poppiness generally associated with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/buyers-guides\/best-trail-bikes\">trail bikes<\/a>.<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"4093\" height=\"2729\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/09\/Specialized-Stumpjumper-15-Alloy-frame.png\" alt=\"Specialized Stumpjumper 15 Alloy frame\" class=\"wp-image-880973\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Specialized has incorporated its SWAT frame storage into the down tube. &#8211; <span>Specialized<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure><p>In essence, the new shock has a two-stage tuneable air spring that&#8217;s said to improve traction without sacrificing big-hit control deeper into the travel.<\/p><p>Two connected positive air chambers increase overall spring volume and remain open until the last 30 per cent of travel where the Genie band blanks them off, reducing spring volume and increasing ramp-up towards the end of the stroke.<\/p><p>Specialized says the new Stumpjumper 15 Alloy uses the same amount of travel as its 170mm Specialized Enduro when absorbing a 1080 N bump force.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Six geometry settings<\/h2><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"3995\" height=\"2663\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/09\/Specialized-Stuntjumper-15-Alloy.png\" alt=\"Specialized Stumpjumper 15 Alloy rear shot\" class=\"wp-image-880965\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The Stumpjumper has high levels of geometry adjustment. &#8211; <span>Specialized<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure><p>Like the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/news\/specialized-stumpjumper-15\">carbon fibre Stumpjumper 15<\/a>, the frame features geometry adjustment that allows for six distinct settings.<\/p><p>This is partly done via three different angles of headset cups, each of which offers an increase or decrease of one degree, with the neutral setting 64.5 degrees.<\/p><p>There are also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/buyers-guides\/flip-chips\">flip chips<\/a> in the linkage pivots that enable you to adjust the bottom bracket height by 7mm, with the bike riding at 337mm in the high position.<\/p><p>Setting the BB to the lowest position and using the slackest headset cup results in a seriously slack 63-degree head angle.<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"3669\" height=\"2447\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/09\/Specialized-Stuntjumper-15-Comp-Alloy-headset.png\" alt=\"Specialized Stumpjumper 15 Comp Alloy head tube\" class=\"wp-image-880969\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">While some may yearn for external cable routing, many will be pleased to see the lack of headset cable routing. &#8211;
