{"id":70542,"date":"2024-10-22T11:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-10-22T09:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/eaae98a4-d539-4d28-9cd6-79685e2b428f"},"modified":"2024-10-22T12:25:29","modified_gmt":"2024-10-22T10:25:29","slug":"calibres-value-packed-1499-bossnut-is-back-from-the-dead","status":"publish","type":"rss_feed","link":"https:\/\/c01.purpledshub.com\/cyclingplus\/rss_feed\/calibres-value-packed-1499-bossnut-is-back-from-the-dead\/","title":{"rendered":"Calibre&#8217;s value-packed \u00a31,499 Bossnut is back from the dead"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"rssexcerpt\">GO Outdoors brand revives Bossnut trail bike with 29in wheels and RockShox Deluxe Select shock <\/p><p class=\"rssauthor\">By <\/p><p class=\"rssbyline\">Published: Tuesday, 22 October 2024 at 09:00 AM<\/p><hr class=\"no-tts wp-block-separator\"\/><?xml version=\"1.0\" encoding=\"UTF-8\" standalone=\"yes\"?>\n<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC \"-\/\/W3C\/\/DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional\/\/EN\" \"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/REC-html40\/loose.dtd\">\n<html><body><p>Calibre has resurrected its Bossnut mountain bike after a four-year hiatus caused by pandemic production problems.<\/p><p>The new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/buyers-guides\/best-trail-bikes\">trail bike<\/a> runs on 29in wheels and features 5mm more travel than the previous model, with suspension up to 135mm on the rear, matched to a 140mm fork.<\/p><p>Spec highlights include a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/news\/2023-rockshox-super-deluxe\">RockShox Deluxe Select<\/a> rear shock and serious <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/buyers-guides\/maxxis-mountain-bike-tyres-guide\">Maxxis tyres<\/a> front and rear.<\/p><p>The GO Outdoors brand says the new Bossnut provides the same value proposition as the original bike, offering riders an entry-level full-suspension build at an affordable price.<\/p><p>Like most of the store&#8217;s offers, the bike is cheapest when bought using a GO Outdoors Discount Card, which brings the price down to \u00a31,499, although the card will cost you an extra \u00a35.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Cult comeback<\/h2><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The new Bossnut uses a Horst-link suspension system. <span>Calibre<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure><p>The original Bossnut became a cult classic in the UK when it was launched in 2015, opening up serious mountain biking to many without a huge budget.<\/p><p>Calibre has aimed to replicate this recipe with its latest iteration, with the new Bossnut looking to be a competitive proposition for those buying their first mountain bike.<\/p><p>The new design is said to be more capable than the previous bike, while retaining playfulness and reactivity.<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"7952\" height=\"5304\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/10\/BossnutProductionGreno-02377_240913-Enhanced-NR.jpg\" alt=\"Calibre Bossnut frame\" class=\"wp-image-885950\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The new bike is said to remain playful, while extending the performance band of its predecessor. <span>Calibre<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure><p>This has been achieved by updating the geometry and upping the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/buyers-guides\/how-much-suspension-travel-do-i-need-on-my-mountain-bike\">suspension travel<\/a> from 130mm front and rear to 135mm at the rear and 140mm at the front.<\/p><p>Calibre says it has focused on creating a solid frame worthy of adding upgrades to as the rider&#8217;s ambitions grow on the bike.<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1707\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/10\/BossnutProductionGreno-02380_240913-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"Calibre Bossnut on dirt jump\" class=\"wp-image-885949\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The previous Bossnut became a common sight at trail centres around the UK. <span>Calibre<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure><p>The brand says it has made a &#8220;custom clunky tubeset&#8221; with redesigned forgings to ensure the bike stands up to a beating, stating no one has been able to break a frame during the testing process.<\/p><p>The silhouette is reminiscent of the old bike, although there appears to be a strong resemblance to Cannondale\u2019s aluminium Habit.<\/p><p>Unlike the previous bike, the Bossnut now uses Boost spacing hubs, enabling you to use the latest and greatest <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/buyers-guides\/best-mountain-bike-wheels\">mountain bike wheels<\/a>, while increasing rigidity.<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"7952\" height=\"5304\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/10\/ProductionBossnut-01078_240819.jpg\" alt=\"Calibre Bossnut with external cable routing\" class=\"wp-image-885953\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">External cable routing is easier to live with than internal cable routing. <span>Calibre<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure><p>Cable routing remains external, which while not as refined-looking as other modern trail bikes, offers easy replacement and servicing.<\/p><p>The front triangle has space for one bottle cage on the down tube and two tool mounts under the top tube.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Slacker geometry<\/h2><p>Calibre offers the Bossnut in five sizes, from XS to XL, with the S to XL bikes rolling on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/buyers-guides\/what-is-a-29er\">29in wheels<\/a> and the XS using 27.5in wheels to lower the standover height for smaller riders.<\/p><p>Head angles have been slackened from 66 degrees to 64.5 degrees, which should make the bike more stable when the trail gets steep.<\/p><p>The effective seat angle measures 78 degrees and is said to give the bike a composed climbing position.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Calibre Bossnut spec and price details<\/h2><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"7827\" height=\"5221\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/10\/ProductionBossnut-01069_240819-Edit.jpg\" alt=\"Calibre Bossnut hero\" class=\"wp-image-885957\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The Bossnut looks to have a well-considered spec. <span>Calibre<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure><p>Calibre has specced some seriously impressive components on the new Bossnut.
