{"id":70614,"date":"2024-10-22T13:14:00","date_gmt":"2024-10-22T11:14:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/b4c15145-ff8c-4e74-b530-408551412c77"},"modified":"2024-10-22T14:25:24","modified_gmt":"2024-10-22T12:25:24","slug":"new-wahoo-elemnt-ace-leaked-is-this-the-worlds-first-bike-computer-with-an-integrated-aero-sensor","status":"publish","type":"rss_feed","link":"https:\/\/c01.purpledshub.com\/cyclingplus\/rss_feed\/new-wahoo-elemnt-ace-leaked-is-this-the-worlds-first-bike-computer-with-an-integrated-aero-sensor\/","title":{"rendered":"New Wahoo Elemnt Ace leaked \u2013 is this the world\u2019s first bike computer with an integrated aero sensor?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"rssexcerpt\">Wahoo\u2019s \u201cmost powerful bike computer\u201d revealed on Reddit <\/p><p class=\"rssauthor\">By Simon von Bromley\n      <\/p><p class=\"rssbyline\">Published: Tuesday, 22 October 2024 at 11:14 AM<\/p><hr class=\"no-tts wp-block-separator\"\/><?xml version=\"1.0\" encoding=\"UTF-8\" standalone=\"yes\"?>\n<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC \"-\/\/W3C\/\/DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional\/\/EN\" \"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/REC-html40\/loose.dtd\">\n<html><body><p>A new Wahoo bike computer, called the Elemnt Ace, has leaked on Reddit.<\/p><p>According to images shared by Reddit user anotherwahooligan (who claims to have purchased three units on eBay), the Wahoo Elment Ace looks to be a new high-end model.<\/p><p>The leaked images reveal a large, 3.8in touchscreen \u2013 a first for a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/buyers-guides\/wahoo-vs-garmin-which-bike-computer-should-you-choose\">Wahoo bike computer<\/a> \u2013 and detail a number of sensors, including a gyroscope, accelerometer and \u2018wind\u2019 sensor, alongside an altimeter.<\/p><p>We suspect these sensors could enable the Elemnt Ace to calculate a rider\u2019s aerodynamic drag, most likely in conjunction with data from a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/buyers-guides\/best-power-meters\">power meter<\/a> (such as Wahoo\u2019s own <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/reviews\/training\/power-meters\/wahoo-powrlink-zero-power-meter-pedals-review\">Powrlink Zero power meter pedals<\/a>) and tyre <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/features\/tech\/what-is-rolling-resistance-and-why-does-it-matter\">rolling resistance<\/a> data inputted by the rider.<\/p><p>If so, this would make the Wahoo Elemnt Ace the first mainstream <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/buyers-guides\/best-bike-computers\">bike computer<\/a> to feature integrated aero measurement capabilities.<\/p><p>The leaked images only show the product packaging and a digital render of the computer itself. Nevertheless, the box reveals plenty about the expected specifications, so let\u2019s dig into those.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Wahoo\u2019s \u201cmost powerful bike computer\u201d<\/h2><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Reddit users have leaked what appears to be a new flagship bike computer from Wahoo. <span>Reddit \/ HenkStubbe<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure><p>According to the specs listed on the rear of the box, the Elemnt Ace will be Wahoo\u2019s \u201cmost powerful bike computer\u201d.<\/p><p>Compared to Wahoo\u2019s other bike computers, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/reviews\/training\/gps-computers\/wahoo-elemnt-roam-v2-review\">Elment Roam V2<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/reviews\/training\/gps-computers\/cycle-computers\/wahoo-elemnt-bolt-v2-review\">Element Bolt V2<\/a>, the Elemnt Ace looks set to receive a major upgrade to its display.<\/p><p>As well as being substantially larger, the screen will be a &#8216;next gen TFT&#8217; (a kind of LCD display) capable of displaying 16 million colours and supporting touch operation.<\/p><p>In contrast, the Elemnt Roam V2 \u2013 previously Wahoo\u2019s most expensive bike computer \u2013 featured a 2.7in screen capable of displaying only 64 colours.<\/p><p>Despite this, the box says the Elemnt Ace will feature &#8217;30+ hours of battery life&#8217;, alongside 64GB of internal memory and dual-band GPS.<\/p><p>As is becoming <em>de rigueur<\/em> for electronic bike peripherals, the Elemnt Ace also looks set to get USB-C charging.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The first bike computer with a built-in aero sensor?<\/h2><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1937\" height=\"1291\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/10\/Wahoo-Elemnt-Ace-Leaked_Reddit_001.jpg\" alt=\"Wahoo Elemnt Ace leaked\" class=\"wp-image-885982\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The box reveals much about the Elemnt Ace&#8217;s potential specs. <span>Reddit \/ anotherwahooligan<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure><p>If the Elemnt Ace can measure wind speed and altitude with enough precision, this data could be combined with speed, power and rolling resistance data from external sources to calculate a rider\u2019s aerodynamic drag (or at least an approximation of it that allows for comparative testing of equipment or riding positions).<\/p><p>Of course, it remains to be seen whether Wahoo\u2019s integrated sensors can compete with dedicated aero measurement devices from third-party brands in terms of accuracy and repeatability in varying wind conditions.<\/p><p>Previously, riders wanting to use drag-measuring peripherals such as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/news\/notio-konect-provides-all-your-aero-data-without-a-wind-tunnel\">Notio Konect<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/news\/aerosensor-aerodynamic-cycling-system\">Aerosensor Aerodynamic Cycling System<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/features\/tech\/body-rocket-aero-sensor-first-ride\">Body Rocket<\/a> system, have had to rely on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bikeradar.com\/advice\/buyers-guides\/garmin-edge-bike-computers-buyers-guide-to-all-the-models\">Garmin bike computers<\/a> and Garmin&#8217;s Connect IQ app ecosystem.<\/p><p>This allows third-party brands to create their own apps for Garmin\u2019s range of compatible bike computers, whereas Wahoo\u2019s bike computers have always been more of a closed ecosystem.<\/p><p>While the Elemnt Ace may have some measurement capabilities of its own built in, could the software designed for this purpose also open up compatibility with third-party peripherals for capturing more data?<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">An Edge 1050 competitor?<\/h2><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1611\" height=\"1074\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/39\/2024\/10\/Wahoo-Elemnt-Ace-Leaked_Reddit_002.jpg\" alt=\"Wahoo Elemnt Ace leaked\" class=\"wp-image-885983\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Will the Wahoo Elemnt Ace compete with the Garmin Edge 1050?
