Treat the kids to a spooky day out at one of these gardens during October half term and Halloween, where you can expect creepy trails, pumpkin carving and weird plants. Many of these gardens are also a joy to visit this time of year for their glorious autumn colour.

Kew Gardens ramps up its light show excitement by providing this Halloween light trail, ahead of its Christmas stalwart. For the first time Kew is transforming after dark at Halloween into a ghoulish space of fire performers and illuminated trees.

Spooktacular Fun at RHS Garden Wisley, Surrey

At RHS Garden Wisley in October half term you can go on the Wicked plants trail and take part in discovering fascinating creatures with ZooLab. There’s also a chance to see the show The Spooky Plant from Chris Jarvis.

Halloween events in the south west

American Halloween at the American Museum and Gardens

October half term sees the American Museum and Gardens in Bath transformed into your classic Halloween atmosphere, with outdoor and indoor trails complete with fun activities. On Halloween itself there’s trick or treating in the gardens between 11am and 1pm, a dog costume competition and a kids’ costume parade. Don’t miss pumpkin painting between 1 – 3 November.

HallowEden Week at the Eden Project, Cornwall

HallowEden returns for another year, and this time, visitors will be able to dive into the world of beasts great and small, with a minibeast show and a mega-beast safari, as well as a bug fair. Don’t miss the chance to head onto the Eden Project’s ice rink too.

Halloween at The Alnwick Garden has arrived and this year, each weekend in October is jam-packed with meet and greets, crafts, facts and more.

The Garden will be taken over by a sea of orange with pumpkins galore, and in half term there’s also the Halloween School of Poison, where you can take part in lots of activities and watch a Grand Pumpkin Race.

Don’t forget to visit Alnwick’s famous Poison Garden, which is filled with around 100 toxic, intoxicating, and narcotic plants. Enter if you dare.

Join the spooky fun this October half term at RHS Garden Bridgewater, with activities for all the family to enjoy.

From mushroom house crafting, to a zombie disco and day of the dead mask making, there’s lots to do. Join Colour the Clouds for an interactive storytime, or have a go at Rangoli to celebrate Diwali.

Family Halloween Trail at Castle Fraser, Aberdeenshire

The traditional walled garden at Castle Fraser includes specimen trees, herbaceous borders, a medicinal border and organically grown fruit and vegetables.

Follow our trail through the gardens to claim your spook-tacular prize at the Castle. This is a family friendly trail and suitable for all ages. Well behaved dogs on leads are welcome.
