“When putting together our container collections I follow two overlapping recipes. First, I think about colour, and go for harmony with everything in the same colour, or contrast, when I usually select two plants from the same colour palette and one from another, for as strong a difference as possible.

Next, I think about form and choose a crowd-pleaser, the thriller, then a quieter sidekick, the filler, then a trailer to soften the edge of the pot, the spiller.

This recipe is easy to remember and will help you put together your own great combinations, but if not, use the ones we’ve tried and tested at Perch Hill. There are so many container plants in our range for you to choose from.”
