Christmas truly begins when we bring fresh greenery into the home for decking the halls (see our favourite indoor Christmas plants for inspiration). Of course, this wouldn’t be complete without a beautiful Christmas wreath for the front door.

With their circular shape and evergreen foliage, wreaths are a symbol of eternal life – festooned with holly, ivy and spruce that bring vibrance to the bleak midwinter. Wreaths are also significant during the Christian festival of Advent, decorated with candles that represent the light of Jesus.

Whether you’re hanging your wreath on your front door or wall, or using it as an elegant table centre filled with candles, a wreath is the perfect addition to your traditional Christmas decorations.

Eco-friendly Christmas wreaths

Many of the Christmas wreaths we’ve curated below are made from freshly foraged foliage and are fully compostable, while the dried grass wreaths are also compostable but can be used year after year. There are two faux foliage wreaths in our list, made from quality material that will ensure durability and longevity for many Christmases to come.

How to care for your Christmas wreath

The foliage of your Christmas wreath might become disheveled during delivery, so lay it flat and style the greenery to your liking.

While dried grass or flower wreaths aren’t suitable for outdoor use they can be hung on a sheltered front door. Dried grass is very flammable, so keep it away from naked flames.

These Christmas wreaths look beautiful as they are, but if you fancy added a bit of sparkle, try entwining with warm-white lights for a final festive flourish.
