The much loved specialist nursery, Fibrex Nurseries, will now remain open under new ownership after being threatened with closure in 2022

In positive horticultural news, Fibrex Nurseries, the highly respected and much-loved nursery that specialises in pelargoniums (including angel pelargoniums), ferns, ivies, hardy geraniums, tuberous begonias, hibiscus and conservatory plants, will continue to trade after a closing scare in 2022.
In 2022 it was announced that the owners of the nursery were set to retire after 50 years of trading and were looking for someone to take on the nursery. One of the then owners, Angela Tandy commented: “Anyone want to buy a small pelargonium nursery?”.
The new owners of Fibrex are Ed and Laura, who bought the nursery in September 2023 and will begin shipping out to customers in March 2024.
Laura said: “together we have taken over Fibrex. We are gearing up to begin shipping out to customers come the start of March so very busy. Almost feels like a baptism of fire!”
Laura’s working background has been project management in media and financial services, while Ed is a 4th generation Dutch grower, who has been running his family business for the last six years.
Fibrex was established by Hazel & Dick Key 64 years ago and was run as a family business by their children. All of the plants were grown on site, near Stratford-upon-Avon in Warwickshire. In addition to the nursery, there is a popular and longstanding mail order service. The nursery has been a regular on the flower show circuit for over 50 years, and has garnered a raft of medals.
The nursery was home to two National Collections, Pelargoniums and Hedera (ivy). These were recently moved to the RHS and have been split between their five gardens – Wisley, Rosemoor, Harlow Carr, Hyde Hall and the new Bridgewater.
