A four-day cultural and horticultural garden tour that will explore some of the most evocative gardens of Sussex and some over the border in Kent. <\/p>
The concept of artists\u2019 gardens can be interpreted in many ways, especially as the creation of all gardens can be considered an art form. For this tour, we\u2019re homing in on gardens that have been owned or created by many different artists, examining how these gardens play a role in the artist\u2019s work. We\u2019ll visit Monk\u2019s House<\/a>, where Virginia Woolf penned many of her novels in the garden writing lodge, and nearby Charleston<\/a>, the country home of her painter sister Vanessa Bell<\/a> and Duncan Grant, where the Bloomsbury Group gathered and found inspiration in its beautiful gardens. We also visit the gardens of contemporary artists, including Balmoral Cottage, where we\u2019ll discover how Charlotte Molesworth\u2019s<\/a> topiary work has influenced her paintings; Fairlight End<\/a> with its wildflower meadows that provide Robin Hutt with the plant material for her extraordinary photographs; and Sussex Prairie Garden<\/a> where boldly planted swathes of perennials are interspersed with modern sculptures.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Our base throughout the tour will be Ockenden Manor Hotel<\/a>, a charming and tranquil Elizabethan Manor House that offers good food and warm hospitality, as well as a new spa and swimming pool.<\/p>\n Tour dates<\/strong> 30 May \u2013 2 June 2023<\/p>\n The tour will be hosted<\/strong> and led by garden historian and garden designer Marion Mako\u00a0 along with horticulturist and specialist in historic gardens Sophie Piebenga<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Booking details<\/strong> Price per person, based on two people sharing, is \u00a33,250 (a single supplement of \u00a3190 is levied by the hotel).
