Find out more about the six gardens featuring this year. <\/p><p class=\"rssauthor\">By Veronica Peerless\n      <\/p><p class=\"rssbyline\">Published: Monday, 08 January 2024 at 10:30 AM<\/p><hr class=\"no-tts wp-block-separator\"\/><?xml version=\"1.0\" encoding=\"UTF-8\" standalone=\"yes\"?>\n<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC \"-\/\/W3C\/\/DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional\/\/EN\" \"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/REC-html40\/loose.dtd\">\n<html><body><p>An edible skate park, growing for gut health and a tropical forest packed with rare and unusual plants are just some of the highlights in the six <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gardensillustrated.com\/chelsea\/2022-all-about-plants\">All About Plants<\/a> gardens at the 2024 RHS <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gardensillustrated.com\/chelsea-flower-show\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Chelsea Flower Show<\/a>. <\/p><p>The All About Plants category was introduced in 2022 and champions \u2018the positive power of plants to improve lives and livelihoods\u2019. They have a focus on unusual and specialist plants, highlighting the vital role specialist growers play within UK horticulture, and will be located in the Great Pavilion.<\/p><p>Each garden has been designed in collaboration with a UK charity to reflect their individual causes. All of the All About Plants gardens are funded by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gardensillustrated.com\/chelsea\/project-giving-back-chelsea-flower-show\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Project Giving Back.<\/a> <\/p><p>The RHS Chelsea Flower Show runs from Tuesday 21 to Saturday 25 May 2024. Created by a collection of skaters, parents and food growers, the garden highlights how fun outdoor learning in a natural setting can positively impact wellbeing and confidence in young people.<\/p><p>After the show, the garden will be relocated to Black Mountains College near Hay on Wye &#8211; a new education centre with a mission to promote ecological action. The garden will be the core of a new educational space that will house a kitchen garden, cafe and mixed-use hub for young people.<\/p><h3>Bowel Research UK Microbiome Garden\u00a0<\/h3><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1102\" height=\"790\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/40\/2024\/01\/The-Bowel-Research-UK-Microbiome-Garden-All-About-Plants-Garden-Chris-Hull-and-Sid-Hill.jpg\" alt=\"The Bowel Research UK Microbiome Garden, RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2024\" class=\"wp-image-164901\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">\u00a9 RHS \/ Chris Hull and Sid Hill<\/figcaption><\/figure><p><strong>Sponsor:<\/strong> Project Giving Back supporting Bowel Research UK <br\/><strong>Designer: <\/strong>Chris Hull and Sid Hill<\/p><p>Taking a new approach to grow your own, the Bowel Research UK Microbiome Garden\u00a0by ecological horticulturist, planting designer and consultant <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gardensillustrated.com\/gardens\/country\/cornish-edible-forest-garden\">Sid Hill<\/a> and Chris Hull champions growing for gut health. It offers a probiotic feast in the form of an edible wildflower meadow, in which sweet dock, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gardensillustrated.com\/plants\/lupins-how-to-grow\">lupins<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gardensillustrated.com\/plants\/spring\/camassias-how-to-grow\">camassia<\/a> feature heavily for their gut positive qualities. The garden explores the connection between <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gardensillustrated.com\/garden-design\/resources\/what-is-soil-and-how-can-gardeners-improve-it\">soil<\/a> health, plant life, and the human microbiome. A serpentine charred oak sculptural wall meanders through the space and around &#8216;The Hive&#8217;, a simple hexagonal shelter where people could gather to prepare food or take refuge from the elements.<\/p><p>The garden will be relocated to the Schumacher College in Devon after the show.<\/p><h3>The Size of Wales Garden\u00a0<\/h3><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"2070\" height=\"1463\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/40\/2024\/01\/The-Size-of-Wales-Garden-All-About-Plants-Garden-Daniel-Bristow.jpg\" alt=\"The Size of Wales Garden, RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2024\" class=\"wp-image-164904\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">\u00a9 RHS \/ Daniel Bristow<\/figcaption><\/figure><p><strong>Sponsor:<\/strong> Project Giving Back supporting The Size of Wales <br\/><strong>Designer:<\/strong> Daniel Bristow<\/p><p>Designer Daniel Bristow is moving away from the traditional planting palette usually seen at Chelsea. His Size of Wales garden is inspired by the abundance and diversity of life that occurs in the tropical forests of the world, and will feature 313 rarely seen plant species to reflect the number of tree species present in just one hectare of tropical forest. Plants include the moss-like carrot relative\u00a0<em>Azorella trifurcata\u00a0<\/em>along with the eyeballed pincushions of\u00a0<em>Leptinella<\/em>\u00a0\u2018Country Park\u2019 and the alien looking\u00a0<em>Rubus squarrosus<\/em>.<\/p><p>The garden will live on and mature at Treborth Botanic Garden, North Wales, where it will be open to the public.<\/p><h3>The Pulp Friction: Growing Skills Garden<\/h3><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1707\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/40\/2024\/01\/Pulp-Friction-Growing-Skills-Garden-All-About-Plants-Will-Dutch-and-Tin-Tin-Azure-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"Pulp Friction Growing Skills Garden, RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2024\" class=\"wp-image-164900\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">\u00a9 RHS \/ Will Dutch and Tin Tin Azure<\/figcaption><\/figure><p><strong>Sponsor: <\/strong>Project Giving Back supporting Pulp Friction CIC<br\/><strong>Designer:<\/strong> Will Dutch &amp; Tin-Tin Azure-Marxen, Dutch Landscape Architects LTD<\/p><p>This forest garden takes as its model the most productive organic system in Britain \u2013 deciduous woodland. It consists of trees and shrubs, with bushes below and a ground layer of perennials beneath. All the plants are edible or useful and work together to support each other via soil improvement and shelter from the elements. <\/p><p>The central feature of the garden is a hoop constructed from recycled fire hoses donated by Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service. The circle below represents a place where everyone can come together.<\/p><p>After the show, the garden will be relocated to Bestwood, Nottingham to be used as a community garden.<\/p><h3>The Panathlon Joy Garden<\/h3><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1854\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/40\/2024\/01\/The-Panathlon-Joy-Garden-All-About-Plants-Garden-Penelope-Walker-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"The Panathlon Joy Garden, RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2024\" class=\"wp-image-164902\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">\u00a9 RHS \/ Penelope Walker<\/figcaption><\/figure><p><strong>Sponsor:<\/strong> Project Giving Back supporting The Panathlon Foundation <br\/><strong>Designer:<\/strong> Penelope Walker<\/p><p>Award-winning garden designer Penelope Walker is working with Panathlon, the<strong> <\/strong>disability sports charity for young people, to create a colourful and uplifting garden that reflects how the charity inspires inclusion, enables accessibility and normalises difference. It will be the first wheelchair accessible All About Plants garden.<\/p><p>After the show, the garden will be relocated to the Marjorie McClure School in Chislehurst, a school for students aged 4-19 years old with complex medical needs and physical disabilities.\u00a0<\/p><h3>The Sue Ryder Grief Kind Garden<\/h3><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1934\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/40\/2024\/01\/The-Sue-Ryder-Grief-Kind-Garden-All-About-Plants-Garden-Katherine-Holland-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"Sue Ryder Grief Kind Garden, RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2024\" class=\"wp-image-164905\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">\u00a9 RHS \/ Katherine Holland<\/figcaption><\/figure><p><strong>Sponsor:<\/strong> Project Giving Back supporting Sue Ryder <br\/><strong>Designer: <\/strong>Katherine Holland<br\/><br\/>The Sue Ryder Grief Kind Garden<em>\u00a0<\/em>designed by Katherine Holland will provide a peaceful sanctuary in which to be enveloped in the beauty of nature, while encouraging visitors to share their experiences of grief. <\/p><p>Katherine Holland previously collaborated with Sue Ryder at the RHS <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gardensillustrated.com\/features\/hampton-court-flower-show\">Hampton Court Garden Festival<\/a> in 2022, winning an Silver Medal for the concept garden, \u201cA Journey.\u201d She will be drawing on her own experience of grief to emulate the type of green space she needed when she was bereaved. It will feature a range of sensory perennial plants and unusual specimen trees, including <em>Heptacodium miconioides<\/em>, <em>Rhamnus asplenifolia<\/em> and\u00a0a multi-stemmed form of <em>Tilia henryana<\/em>.<\/p><p>Following the show, the garden will be relocated to Sue Ryder\u2019s St John Hospice in Bedford.
