Why not peruse our list of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gardensillustrated.com\/plants\/ten-plants-to-brighten-the-garden-in-march\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">best plants for March<\/a>, lovely <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gardensillustrated.com\/gardens\/gardens-to-visit\/gardens-visit-march\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">gardens this month<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gardensillustrated.com\/garden-advice\/how-to\/gardening-jobs-for-march\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">gardening jobs for March<\/a>.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-to-plant-in-march\">What to plant in March<\/h2><p>March is the perfect time to begin <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gardensillustrated.com\/plants\/our-favourite-seed-suppliers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">sowing seeds<\/a>, particularly if you have a protected environment (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gardensillustrated.com\/garden-equipment\/greenhouses-with-porches\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">greenhouse<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gardensillustrated.com\/garden-equipment\/tools\/best-cold-frames\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">cold frame<\/a> etc).<\/p><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-flowers-to-sow-in-march\">Flowers to sow in March<\/h3><p><strong>Hardy annuals<\/strong><\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">\u00a9 Jason Ingram<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>The first flush of annual weed seedlings is a good indicator that soil temperatures have warmed enough for growing cultivars of hardy annuals, such as <em>Agrostemma githago, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gardensillustrated.com\/plants\/summer\/how-to-grow-centaureas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Centaurea<\/a> cyanus<\/em> and <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gardensillustrated.com\/plants\/planting-ideas\/papaver\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Papaver<\/a> somniferum<\/em>. It\u2019s also a great time to plant any hardy modular-grown vegetables such as broad beans, garlic and onions, along with sweet peas.<\/p><p><strong>Ornamental grasses<\/strong><\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1179\" height=\"884\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/40\/2024\/02\/JI_200619_PlantationRd_053-b5a1918-edited.jpg\" alt=\"Stipa tenuissima. Translucent and airy, this dainty ornamental grass sways in the slightest breeze and complements a huge range of herbaceous perennials.
