The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gardensillustrated.com\/plants\/bulbs\/when-to-plant-bulbs\">bulbs are planted in autumn<\/a>; a few months later, their purple and white flowers provide eye-catching focal points in this simplest of arrangements.<\/p><p id=\"link-b\"><strong>Cultivation and care<\/strong><\/p><p>This container is happy in a little bit of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gardensillustrated.com\/garden-advice\/shady-gardens\/best-plants-for-shade\">shade<\/a>. Even after the flowers fade, this collection will carry on giving simple foliage interest all year round, as the muehlenbeckia grows and spills out and over the pot. RHS H5, USDA 3a-8b.<\/p><p><strong><em>Fritillaria meleagris <\/em>var. <em>unicolor subvar. <\/em>alba<\/strong><\/p><p>This is the pure-<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gardensillustrated.com\/plants\/summer\/white-flowers-best-beautiful\">white<\/a> form of the snake\u2019s head fritillary. Its flowers also have a checkered pattern, albeit much fainter. April \u2013 May. 30cm x 5cm. AGM. RHS H6. <\/p><p><strong><em>Muehlenbeckia complexa<\/em><\/strong><\/p><p>A fast-growing deciduous climber\/<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gardensillustrated.com\/plants\/ground-cover-best-plants\">groundcover<\/a> plant with small, green leaves.
