In 2023, apples, pears and prunus collectively resulted in over 1,000 enquiries to the service, which is a 50 per cent increase. Wet weather was also the reason for several of the diseases on the list.<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Beautiful yellow rose in rose bush affected by Diplocarpon rosea or Black spot disease. \u00a9 Getty\/ kemirada &#8211; \u00a9 Getty\/ kemirada<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>Topping the list this year was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gardensillustrated.com\/news\/honey-fungus-spread-avoided-plants\">Honey Fungus<\/a>, which has been at the same position for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gardensillustrated.com\/news\/rhs-plant-disease-list-2022\">28 years<\/a>. The fungus uses over 140 garden plants as hosts and the symptoms can include death and failure to flower.<\/p><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gardensillustrated.com\/news\/honey-fungus-spread-avoided-plants\"><strong>How to stop the spread of Honey Fungus<\/strong><\/a><\/p><p>Four new diseases have appeared on the list for 2023: blossom wilt of fruit trees, pocket plum, tulip fire and slime flux.<\/p><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gardensillustrated.com\/garden-advice\/tulip-fire-damage-extent\">Tulip fire<\/a> has been a continuous issue throughout 2023, with <em>Gardens Illustrated<\/em> identifying that spring 2023 was a particularly bad year. Some high profile gardens avoided planting tulips in autumn. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gardensillustrated.com\/gardens\/sissinghurst-troy-scott-smith-vision\">Sissinghurst Castle Garden<\/a> was hit particularly badly, and as a result avoided any tulip displays for 2024. Head gardener Troy Scott Smith and his team will <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gardensillustrated.com\/garden-advice\/tulip-fire-damage-extent\">not be planting tulips for several years<\/a>. It&#8217;s the first time in ten years that Tulip Fire has been on the top ten list. <\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"8192\" height=\"5464\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/40\/2024\/03\/GettyImages-1490425159.jpg\" alt=\"Tulips Impacted by Tulip Fire in Holland\" class=\"wp-image-168238\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Tulips Impacted by Tulip Fire in Holland \u00a9 Roger Anis\/Getty Images<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gardensillustrated.com\/garden-advice\/wet-gardens\/flood-gardens-plants-best\">wet spring <\/a>was likely also the reason for pocket plum, which causes elongated, hollow fruits with no stone on plums and damsons.
