For the best displays in borders, grow in groups or drifts of at least six or seven. If you don&#8217;t have the right <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gardensillustrated.com\/garden-design\/resources\/what-is-soil-and-how-can-gardeners-improve-it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">soil<\/a> conditions, summer-flowering bulbs grow very well in pots \u2013 you could add some horticultural grit or sand to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gardensillustrated.com\/feature\/best-compost-potting-garden\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">compost<\/a> before planting to aid drainage. Its semi- single flowers are a wonderful bright orange and attractive to pollinators.&#8221;<\/p><p>Jo Thompson recommends <strong><em>Dahlia<\/em> &#8216;Caf\u00e9 au Lait Ros\u00e9&#8217;<\/strong>, bred from the popular &#8216;Caf\u00e9 au Lait&#8217;. &#8220;It has large, double blooms with broad pointed petals in the most charming of pinks.&#8221; She also loves <strong><em>Dahlia<\/em> &#8216;Penhill Watermelon&#8217;<\/strong>: &#8220;The huge, glamorously shaggy flowers, with twisting, pointed petals of peachy-pink, are produced in profusion over a long period and last well in the vase, too.&#8221;<\/p><p>Steve Lannin flies the flag for <strong><em>Dahlia<\/em> &#8216;Sweet Nathalie&#8217;<\/strong>, a decorative type with densely petalled flowerheads. &#8220;It&#8217;s the lightest of coral pinks \u2013 a lovely cutting flower that blends well with stronger pinks and peaches.&#8221;<\/p><p>Read about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gardensillustrated.com\/plants\/flowers\/best-dahlias-plant-designer-choice\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">designers&#8217; favourite dahlias<\/a>.<\/p><p>Heights vary.
