The plants are all new to the UK and\/or available for UK gardeners to buy since last year&#8217;s RHS Chelsea Flower Show. <\/p><p>Twenty one plants were shortlisted, including a <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gardensillustrated.com\/plants\/plant-profile-tulbaghia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Tulbghia<\/a>,<\/em> a <em>Scabiosa<\/em>, a rose called &#8216;Chelsea Pensioner&#8217; and a plant that will be announced on Monday 20 May. A new daffodil has also been bred by Taylors Bulbs and named <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gardensillustrated.com\/chelsea\/king-charles-patron-rhs\"><em>Narcissus<\/em> &#8216;King Charles&#8217;.<\/a><\/p><div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-layout-flex wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\"><div class=\"wp-block-button\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link wp-element-button\" href=\"https:\/\/try.gardensillustrated.com\/chelsea-newsletter\/\">Sign up to our Chelsea Flower Show Daily Digest newsletter<\/a><\/div><\/div><p>This year&#8217;s winner is a winter and spring flowering <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gardensillustrated.com\/plants\/trees\/16-of-the-best-cherry-blossom\">ornamental cherry,<\/a> with unusual pure white star-shaped flowers. Bred by Ken Tobutt and exhibited by Green Jjam Nurseries at Chelsea Flower Show, <em>Prunus<\/em> &#8216;Starlight&#8217; was picked by over 180 experts as the winner. It was bred by Valin Genetics and supplied by Whetman Plants International and will be exhibited by Stonebarn &amp; <em>Gardeners\u2019 Question Time<\/em>.<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Cosmos atrosanguineus CHERRY CHOCOLATE (&#8216;Vg001&#8217;), second place in Plant of the Year 2024. \u00a9 Molly Blair<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>Third place was \u200b<em>Agave<\/em> \u2018Praying Hands\u2019, exhibited by Stonebarn &amp; Gardeners\u2019 Question Time, bred by Hans Hansen and supplied byThompson &amp; Morgan. It has fabulous star-shaped flowers, really unusual, which are reminiscent of the star magnolia.
