Dan Pearson<\/a> has been announced as the landscape designer of the new Goodwood Art Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation within the 11,000-acre Goodwood Estate in West Sussex<\/a>. The centre, which is set to open in May 2025, will showcase contemporary art from internationally acclaimed artists, and will also focus on environment and education.\u00a0<\/p>

As part of an extensive landscape development project supported by the Stephen A. Schwarzman Foundation, Dan will create a biodiverse scheme, with spaces to unwind and reflect.\u00a0<\/p>

The design will incorporate 24 evolving seasonal \u2018moments\u2019 to highlight different elements of the garden and artworks throughout the year, and create specific destinations within the landscape. Designated paths will provide access not only to the art installations nestled within the grounds, but also to areas of rest and contemplation.<\/p>

Visitors to the Art Foundation will be able to explore a range of environments, from ancient woodland<\/a> to wildflower meadows<\/a>, designed to reflect the wild landscapes found in the South Downs.<\/p>

Rachel Whiteread, the Goodwood Art Foundation\u2019s first artist to be featured, said, \u201cThe ethos of providing audiences with the opportunity to experience contemporary art integrated into a carefully designed natural environment is something I particularly respond to.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>

Dan, who recently designed Sissinghurst\u2019s Mediterranean-inspired Delos garden<\/a>, added, \u201cWe are delighted to be collaborating on a project that balances contemporary landscape design, increased biodiversity and exceptional contemporary art. The rich history of the Goodwood Estate and its relationship to the distinct landscape character of the South Downs National Park are the starting point for a reimagined experience of art at the Goodwood Art Foundation.\u00a0<\/p>

\u201cOur masterplan creates a landscape setting in which a selection of carefully curated international artworks will feature, ensuring that the resonance between art and landscape is at the core of this new project.\u00a0<\/p>

\u201cThe dual experience of encountering works of art and discovering a beautiful, contemporary landscape offers visitors the chance for escape, delight, reflection, and illumination.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>

The gardens will also include the Western Amphitheatre, hosting schools and groups, as well as open-air performances in the summer.<\/p>
Donor Stephen A. Schwarzman, said: \u201cI\u2019m proud to support the Goodwood Art Foundation, particularly its historic landscape. It is so critical to create compelling settings like this where students and visitors of all ages can engage with the arts and history.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>
As well as the new Art Foundation, there is lots for visitors to enjoy on the Goodwood Estate<\/a>. It is also home to one of Europe\u2019s largest lowland organic farms, as well as a range of attractions including a historic motor circuit, a Battle of Britain airfield and one of the country\u2019s oldest cricket grounds. Visitors can also make use of the estate\u2019s on-site holiday accommodation, health club and sustainable restaurant with a seasonal menu.\u00a0<\/p> <\/body><\/html>\n
