{"id":4258,"date":"2021-10-04T13:27:51","date_gmt":"2021-10-04T11:27:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.gardensillustrated.com\/?p=60786"},"modified":"2021-10-13T17:06:38","modified_gmt":"2021-10-13T15:06:38","slug":"sue-biggs-cbe-to-retire-as-director-general-of-the-rhs","status":"publish","type":"rss_feed","link":"https:\/\/c01.purpledshub.com\/gardensillustrated\/rss_feed\/sue-biggs-cbe-to-retire-as-director-general-of-the-rhs\/","title":{"rendered":"Sue Biggs CBE to retire as Director General of the RHS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"rssexcerpt\"><\/p><p class=\"rssauthor\">By Daniel Griffiths\n                \t\t<\/p><p class=\"rssbyline\">Published: Monday, 04 October 2021 at 12:00 am<\/p><hr class=\"no-tts wp-block-separator\"\/><?xml version=\"1.0\" encoding=\"UTF-8\" standalone=\"yes\"?>\n<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC \"-\/\/W3C\/\/DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional\/\/EN\" \"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/REC-html40\/loose.dtd\">\n<html><body><p>In an announcement this morning \u2013 and following a successful RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2021 \u2013 the Royal Horticultural Society have stated that <span lang=\"&quot;EN-US&quot;\">Sue Biggs CBE will retire from her role as their Director General in June 2022.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In today\u2019s official statement, the RHS highlight the work that Sue has done over 11 years to<span lang=\"&quot;EN-US&quot;\"> modernise and grow the RHS. \u201cShe leaves a much stronger charity, with record membership numbers, that is more inclusive and broader based, as well as being more financially robust,\u201d the statement continues.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Full release below:<\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"&quot;EN-US&quot;\">Sue Biggs CBE will retire as their Director General in June 2022.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"&quot;Default&quot;\"><span lang=\"&quot;EN-US&quot;\">During her time\u00a0leading\u00a0the\u00a0RHS, Sue\u00a0has championed improvements in the\u00a0gardens, \u00a0flower\u00a0shows,\u00a0community initiatives and educational programmes, raised standards of horticulture and science and\u00a0helped inspire gardeners\u00a0and young horticultural professionals alike.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"&quot;Default&quot;\"><span lang=\"&quot;EN-US&quot;\">She\u00a0has also\u00a0been pivotal\u00a0in creating and executing the Strategic Investment Programme across the\u00a0gardens,\u00a0most notably the opening of RHS\u00a0Garden\u00a0Bridgewater\u00a0in Salford\u00a0and the nationally significant new Home of Gardening Science at RHS\u00a0Garden\u00a0Wisley.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"&quot;Default&quot;\"><span lang=\"&quot;EN-US&quot;\">Keith Weed, President of the RHS, says: \u00a0\u201cWe on\u00a0the Society\u2019s\u00a0Council thank Sue for all her hard work, dedication and achievements during her time at the RHS. \u00a0The\u00a0last 18 months has seen\u00a0Sue lead\u00a0the organisation at a difficult time during the pandemic where the organisation\u00a0has continued to\u00a0progress despite the many challenges.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"&quot;Default&quot;\"><span lang=\"&quot;EN-US&quot;\">Before her time with the RHS, Sue Biggs was Managing Director of\u00a0Kuoni\u00a0Travel where she worked for 25 years.
