Two genes that conflict with each other were added to the UK\u2019s native wild daffodil, <em>Narcissus pseudonarcissus<\/em>, including one for the blue plant pigment delphinidin.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em>Narcissus<\/em> \u2018Poisson d\u2019Avril\u2019 reaches 20cm high and has a long, thin trumpet and flared petals petals that contrast with the grey-green foliage. It flowers slightly later than many daffodils, making it a good companion for late spring bulbs such as <a href=\"\/\/www.gardensillustrated.com\/gardens\/gardens-to-visit\/best-tulips-belcombe-court\/&quot;\" target=\"&quot;_blank&quot;\" rel=\"&quot;noopener&quot; noopener noreferrer\">tulips<\/a>. It has an exceptionally long vase life, which means that it makes an excellent <a href=\"\/\/www.gardensillustrated.com\/plants\/flowers\/best-cut-flowers-grow-garden\/&quot;\" target=\"&quot;_blank&quot;\" rel=\"&quot;noopener&quot; noopener noreferrer\">cut flower<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><sup id=\"&quot;cite_ref-6&quot;\" class=\"&quot;reference&quot;\"\/>The bulbs will now be propagated by a specialist process known as <a href=\"\/\/www.gardensillustrated.com\/gardens\/white-magic-how-to-propagate-snowdrops\/&quot;\" target=\"&quot;_blank&quot;\" rel=\"&quot;noopener&quot; noopener noreferrer\">twinscaling<\/a> and it is hoped that a limited number of blue daffodil bulbs will be available to buy by 2030.
