With the festive season just around the corner, it’s time to start thinking about our Christmas decorations. From selecting the perfect seasonal baubles to starting the all-important gift buying, the earlier you start, the more organised you’ll feel.
If you’re opting for a more Scandi look this Christmas, why not get creative with a DIY ladder tree? Not only is this a more sustainable option than the traditions of cutting down a new tree each year, but you can truly make it your own with vintage baubles, gorgeous garlands and pretty twinkling lights. And don’t worry, Father Christmas can still leave presents beneath this alternative tree!

DIY Christmas ladder tree guide
Step 1
Position the ladder in place and begin to wrap the faux Christmas garlands around either side of the ladder. Start to secure the garland with floristry wire, making sure the wire is tightly wound and fixed in place. Depending on the size, repeat this process a further 4 to 6 times down either side of the ladder to ensure a secure display. Once secured, gently tease the foliage around the ladder until you’ve reached your desired look.
Step 2
Choose delicate micro lights to weave in and around the garlands and ladder to add a subtle hint of warmth to your festive display. The silver wire will seamlessly blend in with the garland and twist around each sprig of foliage for the ultimate seasonal glow this Christmas.
Step 3
Add a festive touch with miniature sparkling baubles, hung amongst the winter foliage. Choose from glistening gold hues and shimmering silver, to white ceramic for the perfect Scandi look. The minimalistic ladder silhouette combined with soft tonal colours will transform your living space into a calming seasonal haven this Christmas.
Step 4
Add the perfect finishing touch with a twinkling Osby star hung above the DIY tree. Fix in place with either a pin or command hook, making sure to hide the battery box behind the garland at the top of the tree for an effortless display. Complete with gifts and add your favourite candlesticks dotted around the base of the ladder tree for the most magical look this Christmas.
