Hogarth & Europe

Until March 2022 at the Tate

This major exhibition brings together William Hogarth’s greatest works with those of his peers across Europe, exploring the parallels and exchanges that crossed borders as they captured a changing society and culture in the mid 18th century. Visitors to the Tate will be able to see over 60 of Hogarth’s best-known paintings and prints, such as Marriage A-la-Mode (1743), The Gate of Calais (1748) and Gin Lane (1751), alongside works by famed European artists including Chardin, Longhi, Crespi and Troost.

Life Through a Royal Lens

4th March 2022 – 30th October 2022 at Kensington Palace

This new exhibition at Kensington Palace explores the history of the Royal family through photos. The exhibition will feature some of the most iconic photos of the Royals, including Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, as well as some images visitors might not have seen before, including intimate family photos. Photo’s in the exhibition range from the 19th century right through to the present day.

MaMa Pop-up

4th March 2022 – 5th June 2022 at the International Slavery Museum

This pop-up exhibition will see art return to Dr Martin Luther King Jr Building. National Museums Liverpool has organised a series of pop-up exhibitions, with Migrant Artists Mutual Aid (MaMa) being the first. Promising a visually strong and immersive experience for visitors, the exhibition will include music, poetry and workshops.

Beyond Bloomsbury: Life, Love and Legacy

4th March 2022 – 5th June 2022 at York Art Gallery

Opening on the 4th March, this exhibition at York Art gallery explores the lives and works of the writers, artists, and thinkers, including Virginia Wolf, of the Bloomsbury group. The exhibition will feature portraits of the key members of the group alongside their lesser known associates. Amongst the portraits, visitors will have the opportunity to view paintings, drawings, photos and sculptures.

A Northumberland Menagerie

March – October 2022 at Woodhorn Museum, Berwick Museum & Art Gallery, Morpeth Chantry Bagpipe Museum, Hexham Old Gaol 

Between March and October, local artist Bethan Maddocks will display her magical, large-scale paper-cut works at various venues. Works featured will tell stories of Northumberland’s animals, past and present, real and imagined.

Hidden Masterpieces

9th March 20225th June 2022 at Soane Museum

A collection usually carefully stored away, the Hidden Masterpieces exhibition is a rare opportunity for visitors to view the highlights of Sir John Soane’s art collection. The collection features illuminated manuscripts, Italian Renaissance drawings and Indian and Persian miniatures.

Alice’s Wonderlands

23th March 2022 – 30th October 2022 at Waddesdon Manor

Waddesdon Manor will be opening Alice’s Wonderlands exhibition in March, showcasing the collections, life and legacy of Alice de Rothschild and her role in the manor’s history. Displays, tours and activities will all be featured.

In Focus: The Grand Tour

27th March 2022 – 24 Julyth 2022 at Strawberry Hill House

Strawberry Hill House will welcome visitors this March to take a virtual tour of the beautiful city of Florence. The exhibition will bring back many of the Florentine artworks that once resided at Strawberry Hill House, many of which were gifted to Walpole by his friend Horace Mann.
