BBC Two and HBO’s Industry is back for its second outing, with both the young hopefuls and the old guard put to the test once again as they scramble to assert themselves at Pierpoint, one of the world’s top investment banks.
The latest batch of episodes welcomes back a raft of familiar faces following the dramatic season 1 finale, plus a number of new players who are guaranteed to shake up proceedings in the cut throat world of finance.
“We’re very much our own worst critics,” co-creator Conrad Kay said (via RadioTimes.com) of the pressure the team felt when stepping into season 2 as they pushed to tell “better stories”.
He added: “The first season was big on vibe, character, had some good dialogue, some fun sex, [and] had an overall aesthetic which maybe felt like a bit of a breath of fresh air, which is maybe why people reacted so positively to it. But we thought, as the writers of the show, we could tell more exciting, thrilling, corporate intrigue [and] corporate politics stories within that space.
“The show’s about power on some level and there’s no reason why we couldn’t have a bit of a Game of Thrones-y, ‘Who’s gonna take whose seat?’ kind of feel to it.”
Here’s everything you need to know about Industry’s season 2 cast.
Myha’la Herrold plays Harper
Who is Harper? A highly talented graduate trainee from New York who lands a job at fictional London investment bank Pierpoint & Co. As first impressions go, she’s not great with small talk, but she’s whip-smart and she knows it.
Speaking at a press Q&A, Herrold said she “absolutely” didn’t understand Industry’s financial terms. “No [I didn’t understand them]. The short answer is absolutely not, no,” she said. “Yeah, when I first read the first script entirely, in the audition process, I think I had an early version of the first draft – I remember I was reading it in my apartment in Brooklyn. it was like mad late, I was in my bed in the dark reading this script, and I remember sweating bullets, I got to the end of episode four and I was like, ‘Oh my God, I don’t really, really know what this means, but I know that it’s crazy’.”
