Now that Pokémon Scarlet and Violet is out in the world, every new player will have to pick between three different starter Pokémon, each of which will have two evolutions available.
This has long been the formula at the heart of the mainline Pokémon RPG series, and the developers from Game Freak haven’t strayed far from tradition this time out (not in this regard, at least).
Shortly after starting the game, you’ll get to pick between a Grass-type cat Pokémon called Sprigatito, a Fire-type lizard named Fuecoco, and a Water-type duck by the name of Quaxly. To see what their evolutions look like, and to learn which levels they evolve at, read on!
Pokémon Scarlet and Violet starter evolutions revealed
If you just want to see what the starter evolutions look like, the video below is exactly what you’re looking for!
As you can see, the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet starter evolutions have now been officially revealed, and they’re a good-looking bunch it seems. To learn more about when exactly each of them evolved into their second and third forms, keep reading.
Sprigatito evolutions explained
Sprigatito is an adorable grass starter Pokémon (we imagine it will be very popular with a lot of gamers). Pick it to be strong against water, rock, and ground types – careful around fire though. We’re sure you’re wondering what this feline Bulbasaur evolves into?
At level 16, it becomes Floragato.
And at level 35, the final stage is Meowscarada.
Fuecoco evolutions explained
Fuecoco is this generation’s fire starter. Pick it to be strong against bug, grass, ice, and steel (but be careful going up against water types!). An adorable little lizard who seems to have an innocent look of on its face. This innocence won’t last forever, though.
At level 16, it will evolve to Crocalor.
And at level 35, the final stage is Skeledirge.
Quaxly evolutions explained
And finally, it’s this generation’s water Pokémon – Quaxly. Super effective against fire, rock, and ground, but be careful around grass dragon types. This little chick has a lot up its sleeve, and even more so when it evolves…
At level 16, it will evolve into Quaxwell.
And at level 35, the final stage is Quaquaval.
What’s the best starter in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet?
Having seen all the starters in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, you’ll know there’s no wrong answer and all three will have fans who think they are the best.
However, while appearance may come down to taste, the three do have distinct differences in battle – Sprigatito specialises in Speed at the cost of HP, Quaxly has the strongest attack of the three and Fuecoco grows into a slower tank with robust health and defence.
The early game will see you take on several bug and grass Pokémon, so Fuecoco is an obvious choice – but Quaxly also learns Wing Attack at level ten which may well tip the scales.
Quaxly is also the perfect type matchup for Team Star leader Mela’s Fire Pokémon, so so we might just have to name Quaxly as the best all-around starter (and not just because of their cool hat!).
